I take about an inch of the cream off for other uses, then I shake the jar before opening it each time. It stays mixed for quite a while...I've never had it separate in the glass.

We went to Earth Fare today and we're home $118.00 later.  I forgot the buttermilk to soak the oats for the pancakes.  Can I soak them in regular milk?

The parking lot was full and Johnny said good grief.  I, feeling sort of smart, said people want to be healthy.  When we walked in the store was packed.  As I walked past the tomatoes Johnny said Sheri, look around.  Everyone in here is real fat.  And they were.  Mostly white, fat people.  We had to laugh.

Add a Tbsp. of vinegar to the milk.

Sadly, lots of people get roped into the "it's healthy if it's sold in a health store" lie. And then, when they don't loose weight, it's the healthy eating's fault. :(

The cheese and milk says no antibiotics or hormones used.  But it also says ultra pasteurized.  I looked at the Land O Lakes butter and it has the same ingredients except it doesn't say no antibiotics or hormones, so the other butter is better  - right?

I try to avoid any antibiotics or hormones in any animal product, if I have a choice. ANd if it doesn't cost an arm and two legs.

We bought naval oranges, apples, asparagus, bananas.  They have Cheerios but no Rice Krispies so I bought some other type.  I tried to get the one with the least ingredients listed.  What about malt syrup?  A lot of stuff has that listed as an ingredient.

The cheese says it contains microbes.

I saw the coconut oil but didn't get it.  Again it's the consistency plus we don't fry much and I can't imagine warming that up to put on a salad or in brownies.

tell me again what "raw" means because I did see that word on something but I thought I remembered it had something to do with pasteurizing and it's against the law in NC to sell non pasteurized stuff.

I'm not sure...I'll read about it when monkey goes to bed.

You can add the vinegar to the milk or lemon or lime juice. 1 Tblspn per cup of milk. I don't measure, just add what looks right to me.

All real cheeses (non velveta type) have microbes. That's what makes it cheese.

I use it to saute some things, and keep a small jar behind the stove so it gets warm enough to liquify quickly.

That should only apply to raw fresh milk. Almost all cheeses are raw, yogurts too.

I actually remember when they began 'homogenizing' milk. It was a big thing and all of those 50's mothers were so glad it was safer. (Imagine Donna Reed here or June Cleaver smiling away while doing all of the drudge work without all of the current modern conveniences)

Sheri, does the pancake recipe call for buttermilk? I don't remember that.  :ScratchHead:

No, but if you want to soak the grains, to do any good it requires acid.
