I know what you mean about the chocolate mint.  It seems to be more chocolatey if it is in rich soil if I remember correctly.

I've been told it doesn't have much odor if it is grown in a hot house but as soon as it is planted out doors that it will improve.

I love the smell and the rodent repellant qualities so I'm going to try and make it a ground cover for the foundation beds.  I'm probably just crazy.

I'll cross my fingers for you.  The only thing I end up bringing in is bugs when I try to over winter things inside.   The plants always die on me.

I grew chocolate mint far away from other mints bcause it will revert to a general mint if cross pollinated.

I've killed chocolate mint two years in a row leaving it outside in zone 8, so this last winter I put it in the greenhouse...it struggled, but survived.

Even here it dies back to the roots. And it reseeds and spreads, spring, summer, fall. Then dies back again.

I'm getting squash and cukes daily and 1 tomato today.  I've got plenty of blooms on the tomatoes but not many tomatoes.  I may be putting them back in their original spot next year.

Lots of blooms here, but no tomatoes, peppers or cukes yet.

I went out at  7:30 this morning and watered my potted plants.  Since it's a million degrees I don't know if there's enough water to keep them happy.  Surprisingly the vege garden looks good.  Hope it rains tonight.

Speaking of peppers, last night I noticed that a 1/2 grown bell pepper was laying on the ground.  It looked like it had just snapped off at the stem.  Do you think it's a disease or worm of some type or just a fluke thing?

Could be a worm, or critter with teeth. Dont know of a disease that would do that.

I've got some more peppers almost ready.  I'm waiting to see what happens.

Wonder if it is cutworms?

I haven't noticed any larvae or worms but we'll see what happens with these others.

What I noticed today is squash bug eggs on the squash.  I didn't see any adult ones but for eggs to be there I'm sure there must be.  It's early for squash bugs so this is not good.  I hate to spray with Sevin.  What do you think about insecticidal soap?

I usually removed the leaf with the eggs, or I spray them off with a hose.  Of course, I have usually lost my squash to SVB and squash bugs by now...

I saw one of those the other day at work (squash bug) but had no idea what it was. The work release center next door, who manages the property around our office, removed all our ornamental plants and started growing food. Right now its squash that took forever to sprout and are producing lots of flowers and very little squash. The plants themselves do not look healthy at all! I don't expect they'll be there much longer before they have the inmates pull them and put something else in.

What is SVB?
Dear Lord, On this day, please wrap your arm around my shoulder and keep your hand over my mouth.  Amen

There are some insecticidal soaps that you can use on veggies, just make sure you read the label Sheri, or Google and make your own.

Neem can be used on veges.  I've never used it though but it says the bugs don't like the residue that's left on the leaves and it lasts 30 days even in the rain.  Going to Lowe's today.

SVB is squash vine borer.  It's a fairly pretty moth that lays it's eggs on the stems of squash plants and then the larvae hatch and burrow into the vine, eating out the insides and killing the plant.  Happens to me every year...

My mother told me today that someone she knows has already taken up his squash plants so the bugs must be out everywhere.

I have a plum!  I couldn't be more excited.  I look up and there it was.  At first because of my eye sight I thought it might be a leave turning red for one reason or another but the more I looked the rounder it got.  Woohoo!
