I don't know what you're planning, Sheri, but I always cook squash and freeze it.  It tastes just as good as freshly cooked and is a nice treat through the winter.

do you completely cook it or just blanche it?

Sorry, Sheri.  I just saw this.  I am doing this with winter squash.  I guess I should have asked what kind you are growing.  I do it with butternut, acorn, etc.  I cook it all the way and freeze it.

Way to go bestofour.  The rabbits have taken over the yard.  I think they are waiting for the blueberries to rippen.  The can ignores them can you believe that.  I should trade him in on a new model lol.

I harvested the radishes and weeded the radish row.  Now I just have to figure out how to save the radish seeds.  A whole section of the row of radishes went to seed.  I'm not at all sure why.

The raising meat birds experiment ended today, my last meat bird got into pen with my RIRs and they killed it  :Vent:..the other was killed by my big Buff Orpington. :crying:  I will try again later.

i'm sorry your meat bird experiment went badly.  I hope your garden makes up for it.  Have a great growing season.

Sorry you lost Extra Crispy and Original Recipe, Lagree. :( You need to tell your other birds that the meat birds are for your tummy, not theirs...

For lunch I'm having a salad with my lettuce and radishes and some GREEN PEAS.  I'm so excited that they're starting to make real peas.  I'm not even going to try and replant radishes and lettuce though because already the radishes are getting tough and some of the lettuce is bitter.

Ok, we can not cover our potatoes anymore unless we start trucking in dirt.

Jim started tilling our little potato and sunflower patch the other day and potatoes started flying everywhere. He had given up on the taters because of potato bugs, but they didn't bother what was already underground. He grabbed a shovel and started digging 'em out. I scrubbed those taters and turned them into homemade mashed and they were sooo good... :licklips:

What a nice surprise!  Congrats on your unexpected harvest.  My squash vines have finally started to grow alittle bit which I'm happy to see.  I was afraid they were going to die on me.

I have my very first open squash blossom.  That was very exciting for me this morning.  The vines are still so short I wasn't expecting to see any blooms yet.

Thanks Tina.  Since I only have one blossom should I store that one in the refrigerator until another one comes along or are more likely around the same time?

We have a lovely stand of grass in our gardens.  Johnny tillered and I pulled today.  I hate to say this but I think I'm going to have to use roundup in a few places I can't reach by hand.

Thanks Jenn.  I'm excited.  This is my first veggie garden here and really my first veggie garden since I was a kid.  At first with the rabbits and all I didn't think that it was going to be a go but maybe I just had to make some changes.

The yellow squash are putting out blooms and making baby squash like there is no tomorrow so I guess they are happy.  I'm happy to.   No tomato blossoms yet but they may be determinate and I'll get them all at the end of he season.

That's really exciting isn't it.  I love seeing the veggies blossom out.  Now if I can just keep them watered I'm in good shape.

I'm having squash and red potatoes for dinner tonight.  We've got lots of tomatoes but they haven't ripened.  Maybe there'll be one when I get home today.

Is that ninja rabbit waiting for my squash to get big so he can eat them?  He's in the yard most mornings now.  I think he nibbled one of the radishes.  I did not know that radishes create pea pods for their seeds.  I don't think I'll plant them though because the radishes really were not the kind I wanted.  Now I've got to research which brand I want to have.   Or maybe I shouldn't plant any since I really can't eat them.
