Topic: Avacado Tree

One died and one is still going but it won't branch.  i've topped it once should I top it again?

How tall is it, Tammy? I have a few avo trees begun from seeds. I never topped any of them and I think they began branching on their own pretty late in life and after they were over 6 ft tall.

Has the one you rooted from seed had fruit, Tina? If so how long did it take to get one? I just started two of them and the biggest one is about 3ft. It has grown fast.

I don't know anything about topping one, Tammy. In fact I don't know anything about them.

I have never had fruit from my seed grown ones. My largest is about 18 years old. And if they do ever decide to fruit I will probably get small fruits, not the ones you see in the grocery stores. Those are mostly from grafted trees that are coddled along.
But they do make a nice evergreen tree that can be kept at very reasonable size. So it is a keeper in zones where it can be grown.

Well I've been digging around for information and what I got was that until it branches let it grow six inches from the last topping and then top the last two sets of leaves off.  And that it is possible to see fruit after about 4 years but it didn't say whether than was on the Haas or the other type.

 I have one as well and i have never read anything about topping but that doesnt mean anything. lol their is so much info out there!!

I have heard/read that they have huge roots and if they do fruit it will take a long time until their "root ball" is big enough.

I've heard that each tree should have about 30 feet of space but that you can place three of the seeds in the same planting hole to promote polination.

I would like some fruit off of mine but i have had it for 6 years and nothing so far. Maybe i should grow more

Well the second topping worked I now have stems comming off of the main trunk.  And it's sucking up water like there is no tomorrow.  I've got to bring in one of the larger pots for it.
