Occasionally a drive-by download will prompt users to take an action that allows malicious software to take over their machines. The most common example of this today is rogue anti-virus software. You'll visit a web page when suddenly a pop-up window that looks like a legitimate anti-virus program appears on your computer, indicating that it's detected a virus and asking you to click for a free virus scan.

This has happened to me before. Jim had to "fix" my computer for me. I do not click on anything that I didn't bring up myself now... :wink5:

Me too. On mine I fixed it by resetting the computer to a prior date before it got me. But my daughter has this on her netbook right now and resetting didn't work for it. I guess I need to take it in to the geeks.

Was the software that caused the problem Internet Security Essentials, Internet Antivirus 2011, My Security Shield, Security Master AV, My Security Engine?

I got Java'd yesterday.  Now I guess I have to uninstall the entire thing.  No Monopoly for me.
