Fig Trees
duh:
Figs require a male and a female to produce fruit don't they?
bestofour:
I don't think so. We didn't plant the ones in this yard but the 3 hetr aren't any where near each other.
bayou girl:
i didn't get the ones i brought home in the ground, and they died. but i got one on sale last week that will go in the ground in the next few days. it is looking pretty good.
bestofour:
Are they expensive to buy? Do you like figs? I can eat one or two but that's eat.
bayou girl:
i like them ok. but the family likes them. and honestly, if i had more, i might be more inclined to try using more. i know that you can make strawberry fig jam by using figs with strawberry jello. it is good and i can eat it w/o breaking out.
as for the cost of the tree, i paid less that $5 for mine. on clearance. but if you know someone with a tree, they send up suckers like you wouldn't believe. and they get BIG. we had one at my grandparents that was higher than the house, and almost as big around as it was tall. and evergreen where we were. at least i never remember it losing its leaves. i'll be honest, now is the time to buy fruit trees if you have the discipline to keep them watered. all the big box stores have marked them down. i got mine at walmart and it has tripled in size. i'll get a picture up in the next couple of days.
