Topic: We got an idea

   We got an idea, and lookie what  my husband did for me today!!!
This is our combination fountain /fish pond filter. At least when we are done that is what it is going to be, we hope.

Right now we are looking for a fountain type of thing, that is flower shaped, so it can double as bird bath/water fountain, and.... to oxgynate the water.  it will go on top of the pipe sticking up that you see in the photo.

inside the barrel we are layering river rock (small stuff), quilt batting, miner's moss, and more rock.

I am kind of hoping I might find some small water plants that might grow in there well, and can take being uprooted about once per year so we can change batting and rocks (or more often as needed).

yes, try like at least once every two weeks!

We've added water lettuce which is just growing by leaps and bounds, I have pinched off at least a dozen babies from the two parents I bought while out with Patty.

Now, the babies are starting to make babies. This plant is incredible the way it grows, I can see why it's considered a noxious weed by several states. 

The water hyacinth isn't doing nearly so well. We have two babies of that. 

But, the fountain is working great.... our water is finally staying clear.

How is your idea comming along?

It works!  And that is what matters.. I've even put a water plant in a pot and put it in the fountain, and it's starting to take off....  my yard is gonna be so beautiful in just a few years!!
