OpenOffice.org3.1 JRE File
« on: Sep 12, 2013, 07:15:47 AM »
The new computer came with this program but when I try to set a doc up it says I am missing the JRE file.  When I go into the JRE file it is there i596.  I downloaded a free copy of java thinking that might fix the problem but it didn't.  Can someone point me in the right direction?

That's a Java Runtime Environment.  It may be an old version.  Here is a link where you can get the latest updated version.

 http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp

Once you have it installed, be sure and go to OpenOffice and tell it to use it.  You do that under Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org > Java.

It worked!  Thank you so much.  Now I have a database.  My open office 2005 didn't have one although it does have a photo album.  Don't ask me how long it will take me to get my pictures off of the web.  And I don't want to think about all of them I lost.

Your going to laugh.  Now I need a Dummies book to figure out how the database works.  Not user friendly to my way of thinking.

It would surprise me if there isn't one available.  They have "For Dummies" books for just about everything.

The library didn't have the book I needed.  The one they have just doesn't have the information in a useful form and it's for a different software program that does basically the same thing.  So today I went on the internet and found a tutorial 260 pages.  I'm saving it to the computer now.  Then it's just a matter of getting adobe to run on my computer.  I'm having an impossible time downloading software on this computer.  I don't know what the problem is but that's another post.
