Don't buy a Goodwill Computer
« on: Oct 17, 2013, 08:30:30 AM »
I'm so frustrated.  I need a PDF reader so I can do some AA stuff.  I've downloaded it, I've run the set up wizard and I still can't get it to work.  It puts up its window and then disappears.

I just know it has something to do with how this silly computer is set up but I don't know how to fix it.  Also I get those annoying yellow headers saying this and that has been blocked that are just normal working of the internet.

Can anyone offer me some encouragement?

The industry standard for PDF readers is Adobe.  It works on practically any computer or device and it's free.

Agreed, I downloaded it.  Ran the set up and it still shuts down and it won't even make a desktop icon.  Something has got to be wrong I just can't figure out what it is.

Have you tried making sure EVERYTHING is closed/shut down - including your antivirus? I've had problems with my antivirus preventing an install before, not with adobe....but it has with other things. Clean out your temporary files, shut everything down, then install the adobe reader. See if that works.
Dear Lord, On this day, please wrap your arm around my shoulder and keep your hand over my mouth.  Amen

Also make sure your computer meets the system requirements.  They are linked on the page I referred to.

Would you believe I got saved by my home teacher and my higher power on this one?  The adobe isn't compatible with the machine I have now.  And it sounds like that may be a good thing.

Anyway he installed Genius PDF and it works great and will even convert word and other wood processor documents to pdf's.  So all's well that ends well.

Thank you so much for being there for me.  I'd have probably junked the computer if you all hadn't been willing to walk me through the process.  I have to say I'm glad it wasn't an operator error on this one.

That's good to hear.  I'll be doing a lot of reading for this new committee.  I hope it works out well.
