My six rows of Fall peas became a smorgasbord for the deer again this week.  I guess my white ropes didn't work.  Next year it will be an electric fence.  :tapfoot1:

Oh ouch!  I am sorry you lost the latest planting of peas and hope that next year you can get a good crop.

My fence is just plain chicken wire. keeps bambi out of my peas.

They finished the peas off last night.  There might be one leaf left untouched.  They just hopped right over the rope.  I had hoped they would stay out because it wasn't a very large area and they don't like to hop over into small places, but it sure didn't stop them after they found them.

My Dad uses a small solar powered electric fence that does the trick for his gardens and I'm sure it will work fine.  I'll have one before next year.

Laying down wire on the ground is not an option Wrennie.  During the peak growing season I would have to move it every 5 to 7 days to mow and that would get old real quick.

Yeah, deer season is open but I quit hunting with a rifle about 8 years ago.  Now if I'm hunting it would be with a camera, but the rifle is still in the closet.

Today I got all my sunflowers dug up and started cleaning up the area between the garden shed and my neighbors fence.  :SmileyFit: It's kinda hard to get to since because both of us have our sheds too close to the fence, so I can't get in there from either side.  :smileyNo:

Time to bring this one back to life. :grinnnn:

Today in the garden I...fed a whole bag of alfalfa to the back lawn, and a bag of chicken feed to the front gardens.

Today I started yet more seeds, cleaned up the remains of last year's veggie garden, and planted 20 boxwood bushes along the outside of the new veggie garden fence. I'm happy with the way it looks! :Glee:

Today I was all set to put the tiller on the tractor and till up the garden and the corn patch.  I planned on using a small portion of the corn patch to plant a few potatoes and I need to get those planted soon.

It wasn't meant to be, because I had forgotten that we had lost a top-link pin last year right at the beginning of the mowing season and I had not replaced it yet.  :dunno:  Anyway the tiller takes 4 link pins and I only had 3 so had to put that off till I get a chance to get to Tractor Supply and get another one.

Just about any grain based feed is good for your gardens. Soybean meal, alfalfa meal, corn meal...all are great. I get expired bags from the feed store.

You did! CGM is a great pre-emergent, and is very popular for use on lawns and such to control weeds.

I worked around the pond this afternoon. I have lots of weeds to pull, so haven't finished yet, but can see progress. Jim dug up the zebra grass for me.... :grinnnn:

Since it wasn't too cold outside today, I got some of my garden beds cleaned up a bit.   :yesssss:   I also managed to get all the Echinacea (which I left up for the birds) cut down.  ;)

I can't believe it...but, even though I'm leaving I couldn't resist getting out in the back garden and weeding.  I pulled out the dead pepper plants and the wave petunias and everything else.

One nice thing is that what was clay when I started a few years ago is now nice soft dirt.  Pulling the weeds out was much easier than getting out the burmuda grass the first year.  So I have hope that my yard at the new place can be turned into an oasis.

Yesterday I got the end of the corn patch ready where I intend to plant some potatoes this year.  It was the first pass so I still need to hit it one more time before I plant.  Hope to get that done early next week so I can plant the last week in March.  That's actually 2 weeks later than I intended.  It just won't get dry enough to get the tractor in there.

Everything around here is soaked but I was able to get outside today and pull some of the Bermuda grass that keeps creeping up toward the edging of some of my garden beds.   :yesssss:  It sure makes it easier with the ground being so wet, and I pulled up one strand that must have been 7 or 8' long.  It was a monster!!!  :yikes:  I don't know how long it will be before te ground will dry up enough to actually do some work in the beds.

Well I was out there today checking on everything.  The crocuses got stepped on so they are done.  Now I'm just waiting for the leaves to die back so I can send them off to their new home.

5 Daffodils including one yellow on yellow daff is blooming.  I didn't know I had any of those so I'm very happy to see it.  Hopefully the rest will bloom and I'll have a couple more of the yellow to take up with me when I move.

The parent Grape Hycinth is blooming and the other is in bud.  I lost one but I don't know if it is the white or the pink.  Whichever it is, I'll plan on replacing it when I can.

I tried sweeping up the leaves in the parking lot but they were still to wet maybe tomorrow.

Saturday I'm going to harvest some of the larger Egyptian Walking Onions for Ellie.  She says she likes really sweet onions and these are really sweet.  More so than vadalias.

And that's about where I am right now.

I didn't get much done today in the garden.  We got .55 in. of rain last night so it was just a wee bit wet.  Maybe next week before I get back to doing anything with the garden.

I could take a picture but I wouldn't be able to get it out of the camara.  I'm sorry bestofour.  But the tops look just like yellow onion tops except they have a tendency to curve rather than grow straight up.  And they are suppose to get tall enough that when they grow their bulblettes they will topple over and so spread their progeny all over the place.

If I get bulbettes this year I'll send you some.  If you remind me that is.  You know my lack of memory.

Well, I'm pretty pleased with myself because today I got all the twigs, branches, and limbs raked up, cut up and picked up!!!  :Glee:  Geesh, I didn't realize how much there was until I started filling the yard waste cans and bags.   :yikes:
