My first cinnamon basil got frost bit so I went back and got another pot of them. It had three plants in it and I separated them and am keeping them all indoors.
-
I trimmed back the rosemary bush that got frozen and it's still alive but leggy. I'm trying to figure out if I want to pull it up and start over or wait and see.
-
duh, there IS a common thyme. For whatever reason Lowe's and other places where I live only sell the German thyme as a plant. I found some seeds for common thyme. I've read that thyme is hard to get to grow from seeds so I don't know about this. I just didn't like the German thyme flavor or smell.
-
Wait and see, Sheri. If it comes back from the roots, that will be so much healthier than trying a new one. It means those roots are tough.
-
Good idea Tina. It's probably 8-10 years old. The last snow was the problem.
-
My Rosemary is leggy this year too. I think I'll follow your idea and cut it back quite a bit and see what happens. I have two so I have room to experiment.
I'm seen the german thyme around this year. I've never tried it.
-
Are you going to try the German thyme?
-
my chocolate mint bit the dust so i have to go get another one. i didn't know they had a cinnamon basil. i will have to look for that. i like the way basil smells when it is growing.
-
The cinnamon basil smells quite different than the sweet. I love it on pork chops.
I can send you chocolate mint. I can send it overnight. Mine is doing very well right now. How many and what size pots would work best for you?
No I'm not going to try the German. I have never harvested or dried any of mine yet. I do what to move it higher up on the slope. It is menacing the lawn.
I think I'll try doing some softwood cuttings of the rosemary and see if I can start a couple of new plants incase cutting it back doesn't work well for me.
Did anyone see the saffron crocuses in the latest Brecks Catalog? i put in an order for this fall. i'm going to put them in a large planter on the deck.
-
I'm not sure what happened to my parsley but it looks pitiful. Hope it perks up. The rosemary is looking pretty good. No, I didn't notice the saffron crocuses.
-
Grubs? or water?
-
do you mean for the parsley? I think it's the cold weather and wind.
-
tammy, let me check if they still have it local. it was only $2 a pot, much cheaper than postage would be. thank you though, and if they don't have it, i'll get you to send me some. and i need to look for the cinnamon basil. that just sounds good.
-
Ok, Good luck finding the cinnamon basil. I found it at home depot.
-
Lowe's has it too.
-
That's cool. I didn't see it here.
-
A friend sent me some borage seeds. Wonder how long it takes to germinate.
-
I have no idea. I thought that was a cooler zone plant? Or maybe it was described as so close to celery in taste that I didn't bother with it.
-
I looked it up and borage can be grown almost anywhere and germinates in less than 2 weeks. I planted it today so we'll see.
Also planted dill and basil and common thyme. I might need to add to my parsley. It's look a little better but it's a little shabby.
-
That's great!
-
The parsley is looking lots better but I'm thinking I'll buy a small plant, if I can find one, and add it. Flat leaf parsley is hard to find around here.
-
Good Luck!
-
Found it at Lowe's.

The dill hasn't come up. Not one bit of it. It's usually like a weed in the garden.
