GREENVILLE, SC NEWS FLASH

Greenville County Deputy Dovey Snyder reported two local men were injured when their pickup truck left the road and struck a tree near Cotton Patch on State Highway 38. Early Monday shortly after midnight, Thurston Poole, 33, of Mauldin, and Billy Ray Wallis, 38, of Easley, were returning to Mauldin after a frog-catching trip. On an overcast Sunday night, Poole 's pickup truck headlights malfunctioned. The two men concluded that the headlight fuse on the older-model truck had burned out. As a replacement fuse was not available, Wallis noticed that the 22 caliber bullets from his pistol fitted perfectly into the fuse box next to the steering-wheel column. Upon inserting the bullet the headlights again began to operate properly, and the two men proceeded on eastbound.

After traveling approximately 20 miles, and just before crossing the river, the bullet apparently overheated, discharged and struck Poole in the testicles. The vehicle swerved sharply right, exited the pavement, and struck a tree. Poole suffered only minor cuts and abrasions from the accident but will require extensive surgery to repair the damage to his testicles, which will never again operate as intended. Wallis sustained a broken clavicle and was treated and released. "Thank God we weren't on that bridge when Thurston shot his balls off, or we might be dead," stated Wallis.

"I've been a trooper for 10 years in this part of the world, but this is a first for me. I can't believe that those two would admit how this accident happened," said Deputy Snyder. Upon being notified of the wreck, Lavinia ( Poole ’s wife) asked how many frogs the boys had caught and did anyone get them from the truck?

That actually looks like fun. Only it looks like it was cold from the way people are dressed. I don't do cold; and certainly not cold and wet.

Rule 1-When using ammunition for purposes other than that intended, remove the bullet from the casing (which is the only part of the round that is conductive in the first place) which will prevent accidental discharge and will insure that your branch of the family will have future generations.

I think the water skiing is an example of imagination and great thinking.  If you don't live close to the lake or beach or can't afford a boat or don't have money for a vacation you've got to make your own fun.  And don't any of you tell me you've never done anything toward making your own fun cuz I won't believe it.

I made a lot of my own fun.
Example: It is mostly so dry here that when it rains we get these miniature grand canyons. Some were over 10 ft across and 10 ft or more deep. We used to toss a 2X4 across them and ride our bikes straight over. That was until a friend missed the board and broke his neck. We all got smarter fast. He grew up and joined the Air Force. So a happy ending.

Ouch, Tina! :o Sometimes making your own fun could be dangerous...

When it snowed while my children were young, my brother, Glenn, would carry the kids up to the top of the steep hill behind the apartment, and they would ride in a box or on a large piece of cardboard back to the bottom. They loved their Uncle Glenn... :grinnnn:

One of our friends, Mike, would sit the kids in the hood of an old car and pull them around in the ice or snow with his tractor.  Such fun.

When I was in kindergarten we lived in a neighborhood in CA  where the streets went up a hill.  I think it may have been Rolling Hills, CA.  We turned into the neighborhood off of highway 101.  We used to put on our skates and fly down the sidewalk and make a right turn at the bottom to stay on the sidewalk.  If we missed making that turn we would have gone onto highway 101.   Once we got started down the hill there was no way to stop.  If we had fallen we would  have rolled or scraped on down the hill.   I would NEVER let my children do such a dangerous thing.  I remember thinking it was a blast.

One more crazy thing.  When I was in 8th or 9th grade, living in AZ, a friend of mine, Mike Hackett, had a skateboard.  I'd sit on his shoulders and we'd skateboard down the street.  If I had fallen off his shoulders I would have cracked my head open.

Johnny just reminded me that when we first got together, as 34 year olds, we used to stand on a skateboard one in front of the other and go down a hill.  Guess by that time I was too fat to sit on anyone's shoulders. :dancingbunny:

I told my kids some of my stories and added, "If you ever want to try it, let me know. I'll just break your neck now and save myself the worry."

Nope Jenn, it's just with the NW FL playground we had, we had a blast without totally endangering ourselves, as long as you don't count swimming in lakes w/gators and/or water moccasins or swimming in the gulf w/the sharks and jellyfish. lol

I remember us building a raft to float down a creek. Used a lot of bleach bottles ties onto old wood scraps we found. We had so much fun... :grinnnn:

And we did a lot of swimming with snakes and such in the water that we didn't think about at that time...

........ that we didn't think about at that time...

And as we grow and become aware, we don't have all that fun, for the fear of what "could happen". Such a shame.

This could happen somewhere else I guess but I think it's about par for the course for South Carolina:

You should be able to see the article if you follow the link.  Probably a good way to sell Fords!
