Thank heaven Marley has volunteered to help me get going on this one again. I need the help.
I believe that I'm on block 7 or 8. I've cut all the pieces and pinned them together. I just don't remember how they go. Then the sashing has me baffled.
We wll work on it the 9th of January.
-
well we will start on this on tuesday. I'm looking forward to it.
-
good luck
-
Thank you. I've finally figured out a possible quilt pattern for it. Now it is up to Marilyn as to weather she uses it or not. I've got my fingers crossed that people will want to work on it so it gets done faster.
-
well I did get some help which is great. But there were more members there than normal and someone had donated a bunch of fabric so most were sorting and taking up any of the tables I set up for my project. I never did get my sewing machine set up. We did get all the half square triangles sewn and I finished cutting them up last night. Today I got them all ironed and now I'm headed off to square them up.
-
I'm still working on squaring up the pieces. But I've started putting the rows together as well. Progress is being made.
-
I have 4 of row one done. I have the pieces squared up for row two. It's not the swiftest progress that's ever been made but I'm hoping slow and steady gets the job done even if i don't win any races.
-
Good going!
-
And this morning I managed to get all of row one done for the six blocks remaining, all of row two pieces squared and 3 sewn, and all of row 3 squared. I do like progress.
Thanks tina.
-
you are moving right along. i hope to see the finished product!
-
me too, lol.
Today I finished up row two and started on row three. I got the first one wrong and had to frog it, but it is right now.
-
finished all four rows, pinned row one to two and have sewn and ironed the first 2 so I have 4 to go on this row.
-
Good going!
-
you are moving right along on this!
-
I can't wait for pictures of this.
-
well it will be awhile before there are pictures. I got rows 3 and 4 pinned. Today I hope to get them sewn. I bought one of the small irons for doing the seams I hope it helps. That is a place where I really bog down.
-
it sounds like you are on a roll tammy. keep it going!
-
The small iron really doesn't help. 20 dollars down the drain.
I got all the blocks done now I just have to start on the pieced sashing.
-
Good going.
-
I think I'll name this quilt the stop and go quilt. It's just hard to keep to an even pace. Weird huh?
-
There are a lot of projects that work best that way, Tammy. Not just quilts.
-
Well I'm still cutting pieces. I got the 38 12 1/2 inch pieces cut and now I'm cutting the 76 12 1/2 pieces. I have no idea how many white on whites I have to cut. a bunch and then there are their borders which will be about 4 times the number of white on white. Scary, now I know why most people don't do pieced borders. Learn something new everyday.
-
didn't like the corner pieces so had to go back to the store. Now I have more to cut. And putting it all together is like a jig saw puzzle,...who knew.
-
Sounds complicated. But think of the good it's doing for your mind. That's a good thing.
-
120 pieces just for the corner sashing. No wonder it is taking forever. And of course the fabric I found with the correct about of white/black ratio is a retro pattern while everything else is either organic or geometric. But at this point and port in a storm.
-
It sounds beautiful.
-
the first block sashed block is done and it looks ok.
-
Just ok?
-
Well I don't want to jinx it.
I've got 1/3 of the sashing on the second block. The problem being their are 15 blocks and I really want to get it done by next tuesday but i don't think I'm going to make it.
-
Ah, I won't jinx it either. I hope you get it done in time. I think it's more important that you get it done right in the end.
-

I agree with Tina. While I do hope you get it done on time, I'd rather you get it done right the first time.
-
Did I mention a JINX? I evidently can not count when doing crafts. First I thought it was just counted cross stitch. Now it appears it is also quilting. I had 12 blocks not 15. So now i have to go back and make another 3 blocks then sash them. Tuesday just doesn't sound likely. At least this explains why it looked like I had to much material.
-
I'm sorry, Tammy. But it sounds like an awesome project.
-
I agree the rows I've put together look really cool.
-
I wish I could take good pictures. I'd love to show you how far I've gotten.
I'm sashing the blocks in the 4th row and I've squared almost all of the squares for the 5th rows blocks.
-
I've sashed the 5th row. Now I have to put it together. Then sew all the rows together. After that, I put on the border and send it off to Marilyn to quilt. We've talked about the quilting a couple of times but I've told her the final decision is hers.
-
I can't wait for pictures. Does Marilyn take pics of her work? Can you get her to send some of them?
-

good idea!
-
I'll ask her. We'll have a picture of the community quilt when it is finished from the quilters show and tell at the club. The quilting doesn't show up that well on that but maybe we can do something with the light hitting it better.
I'm just happy all the rows are together and the first two are pinned together. I had planned to get more done but the car needed to go in the shop and there was an opening this morning.
-
priorities. the car has to come first. i'm glad you got it in.
-
Cars are necessary evils.
-
Well another row attached. Two left to go. I'm slow but I'm getting there.
-
did another row today. Now I am pinning the last row.
-
Yay!
-
I wish I still have the borders to do. I got them cut and pinned today. Hopefully by tomorrow I'll have them sewn on. I'm still plodding along.
-
Plodding is a lot better than stagnant, Tammy. Good going.
-
tammy, you are going way faster than you think. i'm happy and proud for you.
-
The top is pieced! Now I just have to get it to the quilter. Yeah. Pictures after it is quilted and bound.
-
Yay!
-
:Yahoo: Yay!!
-
This quilt loves me. It keeps coming back to me whether I want it to or not. The backing has to be cut to fit and sewn together and the batting has to be cut. Then it can go to the quilters. I hope to get this finished this week since I didn't get it done last week. It really isn't much work but large pieces of fabric are intimidating.
-
It's still here! I had to rip out one of the seams because I had sewn it together wrong. Just one of the problems with working white on white. ripping out 100 inches of stitches took me most of the week. Kept catching the fabric in the rippers. What a pain! So it is together finally and it is on to the batting. Wish me luck.
-
Good luck Tammy.
-
...some days are diamonds and some days are stone. Yesterday was a stone. I didn't remember that the batting had already been cut. So today I cut a piece off of my batting and cut it to size. Done finally.
-
Ok, today I talked to marilyn about some quilting choices for this quilt. She has started but wanted my input. It got a tiny bit hairy because I really don't have enough experience to know what would look good. Fortunately i had my design book with me where I have copies things that appealed to be and we found some stuff in there. I hope it all works the way she wants it to when it is done.
-
Marilyn finished the black and white so now I just need to square it, bind it and wash it. She will be getting the john deere and black and white for the local police department for use with rescues. Phylis is taking the spanish bond as soon as it is finished. And that leaves me the diamond in the square and the sampler left to get done and find a charity to send them too. They are both the types of quilts that can go anywhere so they will be easy to place when they are done.
-
Well I've got half of the binding strips sewn together and ironed. Hopefully I'll finish that up today.
-
I did, I did. I even started ironing them. Hopefully they will get ironed and then sewn onto the quilt face.
-
Way to go, Tammy.
-
a step closer,...I got them pinned which required rearranging the house. I've got to get some of these projects done before the cat and I are sleeping in the shed.
-
I developed a bobble while machine stitching the binding. So I'll have to repin since I don't want to follow it all the way around the quilt. Another delay. But it looks good with the binding. Very finished.
-
I went in to work on it and forgot the ceiling fan was on. Big mistake. it brought all that hot air down on my head. i need to turn it on and then leave the room for 15 minutes.
-
I got about 1/2 way around the machine binding. I don't know why it is giving me so much grief but it is.
-
I got the machine binding to far in and now I can't turn the corners. Ugh will it ever be finished.
-
it will tammy. you are just so close you are fretting and ready to be done.
-
That's very true. I've got about half of it pinned and knocked the pins all over the floor. So I spent this time watching rizzoli and isles getting the hair and other stuff that was on the floor out of the pins. So much fun.
-
i keep a magnet on a string to pick up pins on the floor... just an idea :)
-
That is a lovely idea. I have carpeting will it still work?
I've got about 1/2 of it pinned and my arm gave out so I'm in here messing around rather than doing necessary house work.
-
Got it all pinned. The corners are messy. In fact, the entire binding is messy. But I'll do what I can. This morning it took me an hour to do 1/10th of the quilt. So I've got nine hours of work left and 3 days to do it. Not sure I can manage that because my arms give out on me. But I'll certainly try.
-
Just do what you can in small pieces, Tammy.
-
2nd hour done and about another 10 of the binding. I hope I can get another 80 minutes in today. And keep it up. I really want it to be done for friday and that includes washing and drying.
-
If you can do it without injury, for it, Tammy.
-
well I'm 70 minutes short on yesterday so that means I would have to do about 5 hours work on it today to catch up. It is not looking good at this point.
-
Well I've got 1 long side (90 inches) and half of a short side (30 inches) done. So 180 inches to go and the label.
Marilyn called yesterday and we talked about this quilt inparticular and the quilts we are working on in general.
-
Well as I thought I didn't finish binding it and it is time for the meeting so this one will be shown at the next one. But that is ok.
-
Marilyn wants the matching fabric I have left to make a little bow for the matching bear. I think there may be enough for a matching bag too. I'll leave that up to her to decide. I will try to get a picture when I am done binding it. It is pretty.
-
A little more done on the binding. This seems an endless task.
-
Ditto from my last post. I got two threads done but it just doesn't seem to make much difference.
-
a little bit more and now I have all my hand sewing stuff in there so I should be good until I want to travel with the other quilt pieces.
-
finished the binding and now I'm making the label. I've named the quilt the garden constellation. As soon as I get it out of the dryer I'll attached the label and pack it for the next business meeting Show and Tell. Then all I have to do is document it. Although this is quite a documentation all in itself.
-
I am glad it is finished, Tammy. I hope you can et a picture of it.
-
I'm going to try.
-
Well I got one but I'll have to transfer it to the flash drive and then try and get it over here. That should be fun.
-
This picture is really bad but it is all I have.

None of the pictures work.

Well I can see it, I hope you all can see it too.
-
Nope
-
it is on my patches and pieces profile. I don't know if you can get in there if your not a member. I'm trying to bring it over here from there.

-
pretty!
-
finally someone can see it. I felt like the ghost whisperer.
-
I can see it now! Very nicely done.
-
I really learned a lot on that quilt. I have some yellow and blue material that I hope to use to make another one of the same design.
-
Like this quilt
-
I'e got a new computer and now I can't see it either.
