This is another shrub plant "cutting" that Jim brought home yesterday, in the hopes that it can be identified. The shrubs can be as much as 10 feet tall. They are very pretty in bloom, but we don't want them taking over...:)

It looks like some kind of Lilac to me Dianna.
-
leaves are right. I thought the same thing.

If you don't want them everywhere and they are threatening to grow everywhere, then they are a weed.
The definition of a weed is any plant that you do not want growing where it is and you don't want to transplant to a new place. So if these are invading where you do not want them then eradication works. Other definitions of weeds are super invasive, non-native plants that alter natural ecosystems. We have imported so many of those.

Thanks, Annette. I will google lilac and see if I can find it... :grinnnn:
Tammy, that monster is a huge bush/shrub...:)
Tina, these bushes are strewn all up and down the backroads to our house. I haven't noticed any of these planted in anyone's yard. Of course, that may change if they don't keep up with mowing... :giggle:

they are all over here too dianna, and i was wondering what they were. but they aren't lining the back roads, they are all up and down the easement between the highway and the rail road tracks.

That was my guess, was a lilac, arent there a type of french lilac, and i thought they were a smaller shrub?
-
I looked up mock orange and found out that there are 60 varieties. I know it grows wild here in SC. That is what I think it is.
-
Good suggestion Sylvia.....i totally forgot about mock orange, we have that here too.
-
The flower clusters are nothing like the lilacs we have here in the NE. But there may be southern varieties I dont know of. Never saw a mock orange to know.
-
Hmmmm, upon looking at pics of mock orange, i dont think so now?
-
If it's not a Lilac, my next guess would be Deutzia Dianna.
But I really think it is a Dwarf Lilac.
