-
Aaaaww.....those are really nice Wren and i love the wee mouse!!
-
Those are great,Wrennie! I like the mousy too
-
Beautiful Wrennie. I am having PB issues but will post here soon. I still just love that scarf and cannot wait to get my yarn to make some more.
-
bath scrubbies, done in cotton yarn . The long one is a back scrubber! :applause:
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb55%2Fthewrensnest%2FCrafts%2Fba.jpg&hash=406ecd85e9c95d5a5e911576b6651ffcd1f05481)
-
What a great idea Wrennie. Lys is loving the washcloth I made for the kitchen and would love me to make her a set of those. I even have pink yarn for her. Another project for my list. How about some instructions to go along with that scrubbie please, please. And what stitch did you use for the back scrubber?
-
you do great work wrennie!!! i love the bath scrubbie idea!
-
The scrubbies was a 5 piece set I found online. let me see if i can find it....
-
I found it again. Here ya' go:
http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/lffunt/bathset.htm
Have fun.
I have more than 10 words i think now
-
Oh man, those are all so cute. I am gonna have to figure out how to read that darn pattern now. I am for sure gonna make those sets, one for Lys and one for all of my nieces for the holidays. They will love them!
-
I finally got my new PB up and running. So now I get to share.
The blue baby blanket I finished, it is probably going to be headed to Nevada for a friend of mine who is expecting in January.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2F100_4271.jpg&hash=d5dcf69e8099bf0587a1f269ec5e3b02b99f5915)
And the first section of an afghan I am making for my niece for her wedding. The blue square is actually the middle of the afghan with another red then brown square to the left of it.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2F100_4277.jpg&hash=e12e921bec903b7e1657b69df2c507cf51707765)
-
Those are the cadalliac of wash cloths. I use them all the time. Now I'm gonna try and make a few.
-
That is looking good, Triss. You are getting along on it.
-
I might have to try to make me one of those back scrubber things, Wrennie. It has been a long time since I crocheted anything, so this will be an experiment to me. I hope I can read the pattern and understand it... :D
Triss, that blanket is so pretty and your friend in Nevada is going to appreciate having the baby wrapped in love, just as much as we did, with Destiny! :-*
-
Thanks everyone!
I got a headache looking at the pattern but I think I can actually figure them out, all but the face scrubber one. Had to stop trying and will mess with it once I actually find the yarn to do some.
I have a pink one going like the blue and already gave a yellow one like it to Jenn for her daughter Maddie. My friend in NV is having her 5th child, 1 boy and 3 girls so far so she is very happy to be having a boy this time around.
-
 wow triss the baby blanket is nice! n your wedding afghan is coming along great! your doin an awesome job on it
-
I got a headache looking at the pattern but I think I can actually figure them out, all but the face scrubber one.
It gave me a headache the first time i made a set too. The back washer stitch was trickiest until my mind stopped trying to force it to be a regular DC {double crochet stitch}
-
Here is one of my little purses. I like to combine yarns.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb55%2Fthewrensnest%2FCrafts%2Ffunbagweb3.jpg&hash=9e64b5b8ed5c86a09edffa91bfb08ac833cdcd9a)
-
More great things..........Wrennie, that purse is sooooo cool.....Natalie would buy that in a heart beat....very cool!!
-
I finished up the scarf I started last night with the yarn that Wrennie picked up for me. This one turned out about 5 feet long. I think I will make the blue one a lil thinner so it can be a lil longer.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2Fredpebblesscarf.jpg&hash=8e7a54eb1d2529eb92256c97a14c18a5b17e5c7a)
Planning on working on the other one today before I jump back into afghans.
-
That is really cheerful, Triss. I like it. You are still working on your mustard /squares afghan, aren't you?
-
Thanks Tina, I am still working on it, just taking a bit of a break. I was waiting on getting more yarn and I have that now so I will do the next section after I finish up the blue pebbles scarf that i have been working on this afternoon. If I keep on the roll I am on now, that will be tomorrow.
-
I really like the way the red worked out; Better than i liked it on the skein! What size hook did you use??
-
I used an I hook. I really like that one for the more bulky yarns. The blue is looking sooo nice. I think I am gonna keep that one for myself.
-
An I!! really!!? I used a P!!!!! It looks great! I used an N and t looked to tight for me.
-
I avoid using my N at all, it just does not feel right though I was getting the hang of it after Carolyn and Van's wedding gifts. I still like the smaller ones. I cannot even imagine using a size P. WOW!
-
That pic of Skinny in Vixens thread.... the yellow granny square....I did with 3 threads of Worsted weight and a Q!!
-
Now I would probably use an I for that as well. For a long time the only sized hook I had was a g and I used it for everything. Then I found out hooks came in more sizes.
-
Updates on projects. I have been busy this week. I got the blue scarf done and just love it!
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2Fth_bluepebblesscarf.jpg&hash=de9f124aa95fce04c3c7e26796478f101babcb9a) (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc62/triss07pics/crafts/bluepebblesscarf.jpg)
I am keeping this one for myself, the first of all the ones I have made. Thank you again Wrennie for getting those yarns for me. I had a blast with them.
And I have been working on my nieces afghan today... until I just ran out of yarn. Here is the update, into the 2nd of 5 rows of blocks.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2Fth_afghan8th.jpg&hash=aa0fa36a6944e9bc19ffa355d9570e9e32cb31ca) (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc62/triss07pics/crafts/afghan8th.jpg)
Ok I got the clickable links working.
-
I love the blue scarf! Looks better crocheted than it did on the skein. Funny how some yarns are like that.
The afghan is coming along nicely too.
-
Both the red and blue looked better worked up than they did rolled up. I have the afghan back in its box now. Ran out of cream and could have sworn I bought one more skein but I cannot find it anywhere. So I get to start something new again.
-
Well it isnt done but heres the one i have in progress. It is a very soft yarn but pretty difficult to work with even with a large hook
*broken link removed*
-
I really like that one Wrennie. It is going to make a nice scarf.
I started with an eyelash yarn in about the same color, the stuff that Carol sent me. I am thining a shawl so I am doing the long side first, a lil over 6 feet and will go until I run out of yarn.
-
Ok slight dilemma. i have gone through 1 skein and itis about 26 inches long. SO, both will be about 52". Kind of short. This yarn is way to hard to rp out. I can look for one more skein of the same color. Dont know if I'll find it. I went on Bernats site and they dont list Galaxy any more.
If I find it should I go with the same color, since i wont be able to find the samde dye lot anyway. Or go with a contrasting or complimentay color?
Dark Lilac craft and yarn site (http://www.darklilac.com/category/bernat-galaxy-yarn/2599) Here are the colors i might find locally
-
Is there any way to get the person who sent it to you to check and see if they could maybe get one more skein? If not I would go with a different color in the middle like you did with the very first one you posted of the pebbles yarns. That looks really good.
-
It probably wouldnt be worth it to ship. She's far from me. I'll look in JoAnns, see if they have any. I think I might do the different colors on either end with the majority of red in the middle. I like the pebbles one too, but just to make it different.
-
That is a bummer. Hopefully you can find some that looks nice with it.
-
Beautiful work girls.
I must take a few pics of some thing i did as well.
.
-
As I cleaned out one of my craft bins I found an old crochet project I had started. I cant remember how long ago it was or exactly what I was thinking, but it looks like I'll have another lapghan by winter!
Also
JoAnnes had the Vannas Choice yarn on sale 2 for $5 if anyone was interested (ahem Triss) in getting some for themselves.
-
So what does it look like Wrennie?
I could not find your yarn, lots of Bernat stuff but no galaxy at all. I picked up some Vanna's stuff for 2.99 each. I do not have a clue where JoAnnes is in this area. I also got some peach colored baby yarn for a new afghan. That will make 3 I have in progress right now.
-
It's pink white & blue variegated yarn. Granny squares that are 11 rounds each. 2 of them are a darker version of the same colors. I got a big ball of white to connect them or maybe vary white squares with the colored ones.
-
Sounds very pretty. How far along are you into the project?
-
I think there were 7 squares made. One of the dark ones is a few repeats shy of done, so I may rip out one row and make them 10 rounds with a white border round, or two. I think I was figuring 9 squares, but I'm not sure of the placement of the 2 dark ones. Maybe I'll make 2 lapghans. One with the 2 dark, 2 light and white. Hmmm, going to have to look at them and see what jumps out at me.....
-
Those ones sound very pretty. How large are your completed squares?
-
uh, 11 rounds is about 16 inches square, maybe. I'll measure when I go home.
-
That is pretty good sized then. How large do you like the lapghans to be?
-
Just enough to cover my lap and legs while watching tv in the winter. The cats claim most of them for themselves.
-
My kids claim anything about that size so there are bunches hanging around but they sure are perfect for them.
-
:rofl1: Our cats claim the 2 that my step-mom made for us years ago, after all the washes and tumbles in the dryer, they are the most comfy thing to curl up with!!
-
Wanna see my yarn? Ted and i took a trip to Michaels today. I wanted to look for a certain kind of bead and didn't find it. I also wanted to look for a larger crochet hook than I can find around my house.. I did find that. So I'm checking out their yarn trying to find Wrennie's galaxy (mars) and a lady comes down the aisle passing out cards. 25% off of your total purchase. Whoopee!!
I went to their $2 yarn bin and loaded up. I bought 39 rolls. I went to the checkout and put everything through and she scanned my card. Bells and whistles!! I get an additional 25% of for a total of fifty percent. The $2 yarns were only $1, too. So 39 skeins of various yarn and a crochet hook cost me a touch over $20 with the tax.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi24.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fc34%2FTina55U%2Fyarn_resize.jpg&hash=f1afda55a1b2b123f1bf02fbf157950c2d0fdcf5)
It feels so good.
-
Holey moley what a deal!! Why do I miss those sorts of deals? (cause I'm at work when they offer them maybe?)
-
Our dollarama sells yarns by the loads, all for a dollar. All the fancy kinds as well.
-
Yes, once in a while I can find yarn in our dollar stores. But this yarn ended up costing me 50 cents each. Think I might play with some of it now.
-
OH man Tina, that is some way pretty yarn and what a steal of a deal. So what are the plans with all of that cool stuff!
-
I'm thinking on it ,Triss. I'm starting a scarf as my first "welcome back to crochet project". I really don't know.
-
That will be nice. You sure have a lot to work with in terms of scarf material.
-
Man you are creative! I love the scarves & the bath scrubby, keep on with the pics, I love seeing your work!
-
I have been keeping an eye on the Dollar Stores here too, incase i see some, and i can send it to Wren and Triss.
-
I have a question about yarn. I have recently started trying to knit thanks to these forums. I bought yarn to make some socks and it was 10.00 a roll or bunch or whatever it's called. I do know it's 50 grams because the lady told me it will take 100 grams to make socks. These socks have so far cost me 47.00 because I had to buy needles too. The lady told me that I need to use certain yarn for socks. At this price I can't make anymore.
-
Oh my goodness Sheri, I have never paid that much for yarn. What special kind do you have to use? I have never made socks before so I cannot speak to the fact that a specific yarn has to be used but it just seems crazy to me.
-
I've heard people refer to "sock yarn"... I have to go look it up and see now....
-
Wow, i dont knit and that seems expensive to me too!!
-
I've seen some expensive specialty yarns, Sock yarn can be any type, it seems, but yarn with acrylic in it has better 'give'm for the heels. {soI've read}
-
It's 98% cotton and 2% elastic.
I mentioned that I want to do dishcloths (I love those things) and she told me I will need 100% cotton yarn for those and it's 7.95 a whatever it's called. I've bought those dishcloths at bizarres for 2.00 each so I can't believe they paid that much for the yarn unless I can get a bunch of cloths out of one PLEASE tell me what the balls of yarn are called.
-
Sheri, I picked up 100% acrylic yarn for my washcloths at $1 a 7 ounce skein. You do not have to spend that much money on your yarn for the dish cloths. I have made 3 of them and a pot scrubber out of the one skein and still have some of the yarn leftover. Most of the scarves I make, I use yarn that is around $3 a skein and rarely use more than two skeins for any of them.
-
A ball of yarn is a skein.
You can get big cones of cotton yarn for that much. A smaller skein is only about $2-$3 at department stores or JoAnns.
-
I talked to the lady at work who sent me to two places and she said she knew the yarn is expensive there but that since I was a beginner she knew they would be helpful. And they were helpful at both places. They even have classes if I can ever get there.
On another note, will using regular cotton yarn cause the dishcloths to get out of shape when I wash them. The ones I've bought I throw in the washer and dryer and they look fine.
Also on the socks. I guess I need yarn with elastic so they will stay and not be falling down all the time.
I have a Michael's and AC Moores in Charlotte about 30 miles away so I'll check out there.
-
I dunno about that one Sheri, I have not worked with 100% cotton yarns. I use mostly acrylic stuff and have just recently gotten into other blends.
-
Here I am in my jamies wearing my newly completed scarf.

-
Again, that looks so nice and snuggly, Sheri. you did a good job on it.
-
That is beautiful Sheri! What kind of yarn did you use and is it knit or crochet?? Love the color!
-
I love that scarf! It is a great color and looks sooooo soft!
-
I lost the cover for the yarn. I don't know what type it is. It's knitted and is so soft.
Looking at that picture this morning I realize I should have combed my hair and put on some make up.
-
Nope Sheri, you do not need to, you are a beautiful woman with or without makeup!
-
When was the last time you had your eyes checked Triss.
I did see a pattern for a crocheted scarf that was beautiful. I actually like it better than the one in the picture. It's more flat.
-
My eyes are good Sheri!
Here is an update on the afghan for my niece's wedding. I got most of the 2nd section done today and am just about out of yarn until I get more.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2Fth_100_4381.jpg&hash=dd878364a5686687900fc566f0e44cc211eb0373) (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc62/triss07pics/crafts/100_4381.jpg)

Triss, are you working that with two strands? I can't remember. When I change colors my color blocks don't come out that straight. My edges look like this:
/
\
/
\
/
\
What am I doing wrong?
-
You need to account for the stitch on changing rows, for me with a double crochet, I chain 3 to take me up to the next row and that counts as the first stitch of the next row.
-
Oh, and it is looking very good. I forgot to mention that part.
-
Thanks and I forgot, yes it is two strands, the cream will run through the entire thing.
-
I really like the colors you chose for the new throw Triss! Looks Great!
Sheri your scarf turned out great too!! I thought you looked great in the picture too.. but we are always more critical of our own pictures
-
:applause: :applause: I see Sheri, you did a great job on the scarf, well done  !
-
Great job ob the scarf, Sheri!! And I agree with Triss- no need for makeup, You are a beautiful woman! :kissies:
Triss- I love the colors you have inthat one! They look great!! Can't wait to see it finished!!
-
Thanks everyone. I am so happy with it, I was not totally sure after the whole first section but seeing the 2nd section makes me happy I choose the colors I did.
-

Took a break from sewing and the afghan this week and made these.

(both are clickable)
Back to the afghan for the weekend.
-
Very pretty, Triss. Are they soft? The first one looks like it would shred your neck but that is probably just the way the flash caught it.
-
The first one is very soft. It is that galaxy yarn that Wrennie was looking to match. My MIL bought it a couple years ago to make me a scarf but gave up working with it. My plan for that is to pick an outfit for the weeding that matches it so I can wear it there.
-
OK, I know the galaxy yarn. I've got one ball of red (mercury?) I think my next project will be a scrap ghan. I will use up all of the little single and part balls of yarn that I have. And a few that I have of colors that I really don't like. Buried in amongst the pretty scraps it won't be so ugly.
-
That is always a good idea for the leftovers. I use most of mine as well for a scrapghan I have going, though I have not added in any of the fancier yarns to it. I like the name scrapghan also.
-
I didn't coin scrapghan. I learned that term on Wrennie's Crochetville site.
-
Well it is a good one, I have always said 'rag blanket' and scrapghan is way better! I have not pulled out my afghan today, was busy making crusts for the pot pies for tonight though I think I may end up having Dan's soup, it is so yummy!
-
So many places I go have these lonely little single skeins of yarn with no mates at really reasonable prices ($! or less). Or some really ugly ones of several skeins. I've been collecting them. I want to mix and match colors and textures in a big scrapghan project.
-
I bet once you put them all together, even the ugly ones that it will look awesome!
-
those turned out great Triss!!
I like the term scrapgan. I think its cute!! ;D
-
those are nice triss! wow take a break fom somthing n totaly finish two other projects!! you work fast!
-
The scarves go fast especially during the fall when all of our evening shows are on TV... watch and crochet and I get a lot done.
-
I finished up my goal for the weekend, got the middle section of the afghan done. I am 3/5ths of the way to the end now and very excited about how it is looking!
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2Fth_afghan.jpg&hash=3c3122b1f8c9ef762c2be9b70eb87a34d9d3c3c2) (http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc62/triss07pics/crafts/afghan.jpg)
(clickable)
-
That does look so good, Triss. I could snuggle down with it right now.
-
It is quite warm, that is for sure. Nice and thick, if the weather stays nice, I am gonna need to wear shorts when working on it cuz it is getting uncomfortable being under it right now. Time to start a new one....
CLOSED
-
Gosh Triss, did you do 2 scarves in 1 week? It's taken me forever to do this dishcloth with music notes. Plants n pots sent me the pattern.
***Broken link removed.***
does anyone have an easy crocheted scarf pattern?
