Title: 3 BEAN BAKE
Post by: sunsoaker on Mar 27, 2013, 10:26:16 PM
In case anyone is interested, here's the recipe for the 3 bean bake I mentioned in the lounge.

3 BEAN BAKE
1 Lg can Pork & Beans – do not drain
1 Lg can kidney beans – drain
1 Lg can butter beans – drain
¼ lb bacon
1 lb hamburger meat
1 lg onion
Sauce
2 cups ketchup
3 tbsp vinegar
1 cup brown sugar
¼ tsp salt.
Directions:
Fry bacon, drain
Brown  hamburger meat and onion in lg fry pan, drain
Add sauce ingredients. Cook for 5 minutes.
Mix sauce into beans and bake @ 325 for 1 ½ hrs.

Note: I mix in crock and cook for hours on med, then low. I also like to mix in some green & red peppers - totally optional. And usually substitute stewed or diced tomatoes for the ketchup, but the above is the original recipe.

Sounds good and I would go with the tomatoes over ketchup too.

Yes that does sound good.  I'm having the gang for my mothers birthday party in June and this will be on the menu.  Wonder if I can use bacon in a box that's already been cooked or if the bit of fat that's left in the fried bacon is important?

I think it might loose some of the flavor. I've used that bacon often, but it doesn't have the full flavor of bacon. But I believe it would be good either way.
