Okay everyone! You have been saving seeds, right? Are you ready to swap? :grinnnn:
Here are the details.
Everyone who wishes to be involved will send the seeds they want to include in the swap to me. When the deadline rolls around, I will then swap the seeds around, and mail your new seeds back to you.
All types of seeds are welcome; flowers, veggies, trees, shrubs, vines, ect.
Please include at leat 25 seeds in each pack, unless they are small seeds, then the general "rule" is 1/8 tsp. of seeds in each packet. If it's a rare or hard to come by seed, less than 25 is okay, but please be sure to note that on the packet.
Please label each packet with the name of the seeds, and as much info as you can about growing requirements like sun or shade, plant height, ect.
Also put your screen name on each packet, so if there are questions or problems with your seed, we can take care of them.
You may send in as many packets as you would like, but please no more than 10 packets of the same type of seeds. You will get back roughly the same number you sent in.
Mail your seeds to me in a padded (bubble) envelope. Include postage to return the envelope to you.
You may also include a brief (5-10 item) wish list of seeds...I will do my best to get you a few off the list.
The deadline for seeds to reach me will be January 31, 2008. My plan is to get them out right after that, so we all gat a nice suprise in our mailboxes around valentine's day. :9536:
If you would like to be included, please sign up in this thread and I will PM you my address. :grinnnn:
-
OH I would love to sign up, I only have a couple kinds of seeds this year but it would still be fun!
-
I'm in I'll be sending you the postage right after the 3rd of November. I always forget that lol.
-

-
I have added you both to my list.
Even if you only have one or two types of seeds, please feel free to join in! I have quite a stash of seeds here myself that I will be mixing into the swap, and chances are great that I will be sending back more seeds than you send in.
Everyone is welcome to join! If you don't start trading now, how are you going to build up your collection of plants? :flower:
-
Hi Barleychown,
I've got a question. Do you want me to just send in a label and stamps for the ones I sent in or do I need to send in a large envelope too? I'm just thinking it would be cheaper if you could recycle the envelope the seeds came in. Let me know which you need and I'll get on it right away.
-
I don't mind reusing the same envelope at all. A label and stamps will work wonderfully.
-
I would like to get in on the seedy action! I've got some seeds that I have harvested myself and others that I've got in trades and swaps, is it okay to use those?
-
You may, as long as you are as sure as you can be that they are good seeds. If they came from someone you know and trust, or from a swap that tracks participants, it should be fine.
-
Thanks Barleychown I'll get those in the mail.
la la la la la la
-
Alrighty, I'll see what I can contribute. For the record, if I don't get as many seeds back as I sent in, that is a very good thing. I've got too many as it is!
-
I finally got my address book back so I'll be sending those stamps and label to you in the immediate future.
-
:ScratchHead: How did I miss this thread? Here it is about the end of the time limit and I missed it. :dunno: I will have to run and see if I have any seeds left at all ;D
-
Hurry hurry. Don't want to miss it. la la la l al la
-
I am so glad that this was bumped back up again, i was in a panic and thought i had forgot to send by the date specified.

Rita, you had me worried for a minute! The limit is January 30th and I'm waiting until after all my school-PTA business is done and Christmas is over with before I even think about my seeds. I almost panicked that I had missed the deadline! :laughmao:
-
I saw that this topic was moving down the page and thought we should probably pin it so folks wouldn't forget about it. I also added it to the index page as a news item.
-
Believe it or not the stamps and the label are finally in the mail. And I didn't put them in your christmas card lol. I hope you are having a great holiday season.
-
OK I have seeds .. But where do you find the little tiny zip lock baggies? I have never seen them for sale!
-
Rita, when I needed the little ziplock baggies for something, I found them in the craft department at WalMart...
-
I've heard that you can get them in some craft stores/departments. Me I just use copy paper cut into little pieces that I can make little envelopes with and put the seeds in there. That way I don't have to use labels on the ziplocks or try to put slips of paper in them with the seed information on them. That never works because the seeds get infront of the piece of paper and then you don't know what they are.
But that's just me.
-
Alrighty, I've got my seeds gathered together. I should be able to get them out this week. Thanks for putting this together, Sarah!
-
I have recieved seeds from the following people:
Duh
Penny

So far, we have some great varieties of seeds included in this swap. It's going to be great! :9536:
It's not to late to join in, and get some great new seeds to try out this spring. :Yahoo:
-
Well you three are way more on top of things than me. I will be working on my stuff this week and getting it to you soon Sarah.
-
I actually got my seeds mailed out to you on Friday, Sarah. So they should be showing up soon. I just hope I put on enough postage, it was all I had left and it should work. Let me know if it isn't enough.
-
sarah could you please pm me your address so i can mail out the seeds :grinnnn:

-
Me too, i'll be mailing out your seeds this week too Sarah.
-
I got seeds from Land of Oz today! :9536:
For those who feel they may not have enough seeds to participate....have no fear!! I have more than enough to share, and several who have sent in seeds sent more than enough to go around. :banana02: Join in the fun, won't you?
-
How many members do you have in your seed exchange this time? I'm just curious.
-
 got your pm sarah! thanks ill mail em out this weekend :Glee:
-
I'm glad that they got there, Sarah! You know, I think my mail goes to the east coast faster than it does the west. And I'm almost in the dead center of the United States.
-
Mine were mailed to you lastnight Sarah, in a big yellow envelope, so watch for them mid-week.
-
I'm getting excited. I can't wait to see what I might get from the swap.
-
Have you got my yellow envelope yet Sarah, i hope it gets there this week!
-
Have you noticed how slow January is going with the swap at the end of it? I can't wait.
-
I know, me too, i want to see what i get, i am so anxious!!!!
-
Hey Sarah.......did my seeds that i sent to you, get there yet??
-
Penny, your seeds finally got here yesterday. They must have taken one big tour, to have taken this long!
Things are looking good! I have had several locals and family members also join in, and the total participants may top 20. Not bad for the first year! :9536:
-
That is very cool Sarah. My few will be in the mail tomorrow.
-
Holy cow- I almost forgot- I will try to go through mine tomorrow and get them in the mail before Wednesday. Sorry to be last minute Sarah.......
-
Don't worry...I tend to forget until the last minute as well. I left a few day grace period because of that. Send the seeds! :banana02:
-
Sarah I got some soybean seeds in a seed round robin. Do you want some to try to grow? I read you were making soymilk or something, right?
-
Holy cow Sarah, they did take the scenic route didnt they, glad you got them though!!
-
:Loser: Sorry I will not get my seeds out on time .. I feel so over whelmed right now.. I have yet to even go through my seeds. I really wanted to do this but my mind is not with my thoughts right now :rolleyes1: I will try and send the seeds out by tomarrow but I don't have anything to really send or label them with at all :Groaner: I sure hope I can do it from work! If it can be post dated on the 31st
-
Rita, no worries. Do you have time to fold packets? I make packets similar to this...
http://www.carnivorousplants.org/seedbank/Envelope.htm
-
i'm so glad that I pack as I go. If I didn't I'd never make it into a seed swap. I'm terrible under pressure. My mind just goes blank and I wander off. I'm going to have to do some planting pretty soon or start a second seed drawer. Wrennies seeds came in and filled and I do mean filled my drawer. So if anyone is looking for anything think of me first.
-
I guess that today is the deadline, cant wait to get my envelope in the mail.
-
I think she said it would probably be around valentines day didn't she? I could be wrong, I frequently am.
-
I never did get mine out...... too much going on. Sorry y'all! Maybe I will be ready for the next one. **sigh** Can't wait to see what everyone gets, tho!! I'll just live vicariously through you guys! :giggle:
-
Can't wait to see what everyone gets, tho!! I'll just live vicariously through you guys! :giggle:
Thats what I'm doing! I cant justify getting more seeds unless I buy more land! :giggle:
-
Triss, your seeds arrived today!
I have one more person who mailed theirs out today, then I can swap and get them back into the mail. They will be back to you guys not later than Valentine's day.
-

-
The seeds are all traded, bagged up and ready to go out. I will be dropping them off at the post office tomorrow. :yesssss:
I tried to make sure each of you got things on your wish list. I hope everyone will be pleased. :grinnnn:
-
I know I'll be pleased. I love getting seeds. Thankyou for hosting the seed exchange Barleychown.
-
It was my pleasure. I'll be doing it again next winter, so for all that missed it this year...this is your warning! Save your seeds this year. :banana02:
-
lol that sounds good to me. I really enjoy a good seed swap. Now I just have to figure out where I'm going to store my new seeds. I'm completely out of space in my seed drawer.
-
:Yahoo: i got my seeds today sarah!! thank you so much!! :Glee: :Glee: i know you sent me back more than i sent in! :grinnnn: that was so sweet thank you! :grinnnn:
-
:Glee: I got my seeds today. I hadn't been keeping up on the topic very well and kinda forgot about it. When I saw the envie in the mailbox I immediately started trying to figure out who I mailed seeds to that was being returned for either bad addy or not enough postage!! Thanks for all the seeds, I'll be sharing several with my sis! :9536:
-
I wanted to let you swappers know that I have shared some of the seeds that were sent in with a lady that loves hollyhocks, but can never get them to grow, due to deer. With these seeds, and a little chicken wire, she just may get to enjoy a few blooms this year! :Yahoo:
Thank you to those who participated. It sure was fun!
-
Sarah, I don't mean to hijack the topic here, but I thought I heard that Hollyhocks don't bloom the first year. :dunno: I have one in my veggie garden that the birds must have planted last year, & it didn't flower at all, although it got about 2 feet tall.
That's what I told Dianna was a watermelon last spring, cuz that's what the marker next to it said! I did plant a watermelon seed in that spot, but don't know what happened to it. :ScratchHead:
Maybe the birds do seed swaps too! :grinnnn:
Maybe I should put this in the Synchronicity thread, cuz it's so weird that while I was weeding the veggie garden this afternoon, I was thinking about asking somewhere, if Hollyhocks are deerproof! :nutz: I love it when people answer my questions before I ask them! I'd like to get the Hollyhock out of the veggie garden this year... I don't have the space in there for flowers, other than marigolds & things like that, that are part of my companion planting.
-
Sarah, I got my seeds and oh boy oh boy were you generous. I am excited about the HUGE stash I now have and cannot wait to catalog them all and figure out what is going to go where. My garden is gonna be way cool this year!
-
 every ones seeds are commin in. im glad your doing this next year too sarah! ive been making packets so i can save them as i go instead of waiting. also if the dogs n cats knock em over they wont get scatterd :rolleyes1:
i got mine cataloged the same day i got em, couldnt help it, :grinnnn: its like opening a christmas present.
yep hollyhocks are bieannuals, but once they get going they'll bloom every year, if ya let them reseed them selfs, they'll grow new foliage that fall n bloom the next summer  i have some n when they get seeds i use the claw n loosen up the top soil so the seeds can bury in it better.
-
I got my seeds and spent last evening reorganizing my seed drawers. I'm still not completely finished but once I am I'll have seeds to trade again.
-
I got my seeds yesturday too Sarah, and OMG there is a bunch in there, including some that i wanted to buy this year......thanks so much and i am gonna start planting this weekend!@!!!!
-
I'm looking forward to finding a place and getting moved. At least I'll be able to do some summer planting. In pots, if the soil isn't in good condition. I love celosia and I direct seed that so I'll have something pretty in my garden this year if all goes well.
