Title: SML Documents
Post by: landofoz on May 06, 2009, 03:26:26 PM
I was cleaning up my hard drive a bit today and noticed 11 SML documents on my computer.  They sure didn't look familiar -- the name of the file is ZB2009032213017001 -- looks like a date 2009 - March (03) - 22 maybe the 017001 is a time stamp?  The last one is "dated" May 2nd.  Just wondering what the heck these are -- I didn't put them there... at least I don't think I did.  Does anyone know what they are?

SML = Service Modeling Language

Not sure if correct, never heard of them myself. What is the full filename of them.

I've not heard of that file type either.  What directory are you seeing them in?

They are right under my C:// drive -- which is where all of my internet downloads automatically go--and that causes some concern on my part.

The whole file name is what I listed above with .xml on the end.  The file only opens into IE -- which is a program which I try to avoid at all costs-- and Notepad.  Isn't notepad used to run scripts??  These files just don't sound very friendly to me...

Yes notepad could, but safely, as nothing would execute, just delete the files.

Have your downloads go elsewhere, I have a Downloads directory (C:\Downloads) were files go automatically.

Yeah, opening it in Notepad is safe.  Are the files long?  By opening on in Notepad you may be able to tell what and where they came from.  XML files are Extensible Markup Language files and are used in a number of applications on the web.

Backup your drive and then delete them as William suggested and see what happens.
