Title: Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon
Post by: Bonnie on Aug 10, 2006, 12:50:37 AM
How about a trip to the Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon? There is a lot of history there. You can read up on it at the link below.

http://www.oldexchange.com/html/Dungeon.html

In addition to all the history, it is suppose to be haunted. If you go to the link below you can read of one person's experience there.

http://www.castleofspirits.com/stories05/provos.html

Let me know and I'll check it out.

Sounds good to me.  I read the history and the link you provided of the personal experience.  I found the personal experience more appealing than the history.  I noticed the hours were 9-5 every day for the Old Exchange.  I would really be interested in the dungeon.  I bet those tours hours are more limited.  Here is a link to the Bull Dog tours:

http://www.bulldogtours.com/

Looks like the tours are at 7 and 9 PM nightly there too.

I have emailed Tad. I'm pretty sure that he works for Bulldog Tours. I am waiting for him to email me back.

I also invited him to join our group.

Cool! I was on the Bulldog Tours site today looking at the all the tour guides.  I think he was the last one listed.  We need to do the dungeon tour and maybe the graveyard tour.  They both look pretty good.  Hope he joins so he can give us some insight into which ones are the best.

Tad told us at one of the meetings that the Dungeon was a great place to tour. He said that he had seen the chains move himself.  cool huh!

Oh, he emailed me back and said that he would be glad to give us a tour, and he will get back with me on the details. He also said that they were extremely busy right now with tourists.

I hope that he joins us too, because he is a really nice guy.

Great.  Maybe it will slow down some when everyone goes back to school.  You would think that with all the schools that have started that it would already be slowing down.  Anyway, sounds like a great time.  Yep, it would sure be nice if we could rustle up some more members.  Everyone is welcome.

I still haven't heard from Tad. It will probably be better to wait until it cools down a little. Ya'll let me know what you think. When is a good time for everyone? The price is normally $13.00 to $15.00.

Well, take a look at the calendar, you guys work this weekend.  Next weekend is Labor day weekend and I think Justin has mentioned that they might come down.  Work on the 9th so for the weekend about the 16th would be the soonest.  We need to plan it far enough out so that everyone would have a chance to come if they want too.  Once we finalize the date I can send out a mass email notice to let everyone know.  So how about the 16th of Sept.  Can you check on that date and let us know, that is if it's acceptable to everyone?

Hi, I still want to go! So when you decide let me know. Can I make it so that I get an email when new threads are posted here?
Title: Re: Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon
Post by: Jim on Sep 07, 2006, 10:30:01 PM
Well I suggested a date but so far no response from our event coordinator for this outing (Bonnie).  We could make it on a Friday night I guess on the weekend that Dianna and Bonnie has to work.  OK, so let's do it this month sometime if we can.  I guess we can pick another guide if Tad can't do it, right?

Glad to see you figured out how to make the board notify you of replies, Susan.  That "notify" button also works if you press it and are viewing the "Events" index.  Then, any time someone starts a new topic, you are notified by email.  Works pretty nifty.

It does work Yeah!! Well I'll keep monitoring, all sounds good to me. I work in Real Estate and it's a little slow right now, :( but gives me time to do other things of interest.

This month sounds good, I know I have a customer coming to town the 12th, so the  weekend  should be cleared.

We may need to wait on this one with the trip to Savannah on the calendar for the end of the month.  Let's move this one to October, maybe mid-month or so.

Is it about time to start thinking about a trip to the dungeon?  Maybe we should pick a Friday night in October.  Most any are OK with the exception of the 13th.  If we go up for Reyla's birthday on Saturday we wouldn't want to be out ghost hunting too late the night before.  I've got to work out some weekend coverage conflicts at the plant too.  Aunt Bonnie, can you find out the specifics on this tour?  Get all the details from Tad or whoever and post here so we can see who all wants to go.  I know Susan mentioned wanting to ride up when we do take the tour if she is given enough notice.

Yes  I'd  love to go,  for some reason I haven't gotten these update "notify"... very strange. When I clicked on "notify" it said do you  want   to disable...so I said yes  and reclicked   it.  See  if that  works. I haven't gotten any emails in  at least a week. Grrrr

I checked the settings and they are set to email you.  The last post in this topic before last night was the 15th and the last one in the Savannah Trip topic was the 19th.  You also might want to make sure that the emails aren't being filtered to junk mail.

Once we pick a date for the dungeon tour I will email you directly to make sure you get notified.

Any interest in trying to set up this tour after the first of the year?  The last post in this topic was Sept 29th.  I imagine we are all quite busy but it would be nice to pick a date now so that folks that want to can make plans to participate.

Get some info and lets set a date and time.  This is the best time to do it as we don't have to mow grass or pick the garden.  Suggest some dates and times and lets do it.  Susan has this topic set so that when we discuss it, she gets an email.

Saturday would probably be better in order to give Susan a chance to make the trip if she wants to.  If she don't make it, then either day would be ok.

Susan, I've been working on the "email notification" and have been able to get it to work on other threads.  I'm wondering if this one is working now.  I did submit a support ticket and it started working shortly after that.  I did find out that the testing I was doing was not beneficial as it will not email a reply to the person that posted it.

Anyway, let us know if this one comes through so we can nail down a date for this trip.

I did some checking on the dungeon tour and this is what  I found out:

The tour lasts about two hours, however only about 15 or 20 minutes are spent in the dungeon. The rest of the time is spent on a walking ghost tour that is approximately 10 blocks.

The times for the tours are 7:00pm and 9:00pm.

The cost is $18.00 per person, however you can download a coupon for $2.00 off at http://www.bulldogtours.com/

You can also buy your ticket on line or secure a reservation with a credit card. The phone number is: 843-722-tour.

The size of the group is limited to 20 people.

The dungeon tour is presently unavailable but will reopen March 1.

Let me know.

Great, so we have a bit more time to plan this.  Can we take a look at the calendar and pick a date in   March or April to do this.  I think it would be fun.  We may not get as much picture time in the dungeon as we would like but you never know till you go.

I don't see anything on the calendar except I have weekend coverage March 3rd.  That still leaves the 17th and the 31st available if we take out the days you guys have karaoke.

April looks good too with nothing on my calendar.  It would be nice to go ahead and pick a tentative date at least.  In April it would have to be the 14th or 28th.

I've added a poll to this topic so you can vote for the date you want.? That's the first poll so let's see how it works.? I sure hope we get at least 4 votes.. :o

The poll should be at the top of the page.

I cast  my vote for March 31 but I'm open with that much time.

I will vote later when the majority votes. I hope everyone posts in here what they vote for so they can influence my vote. If someone is coming from far away, I would like to vote with them....

For those that live closer, I think we can all work around the out-of-towners to ensure that everyone gets a chance to participate that wants to...

I would, also, like to ask that those that aren't serious about going, refrain from voting, please...

Dianna

Any of those dates are fine with me.  I set up the poll because we had not used it and it's a good way to get folks to vote on the day they prefer.  It is set so that you can only vote once so we will let it run for another week or two and see what the concensus says and go from there.

Keep in mind that once we set the date, we will ask Bonnie to get some more info and then communicate as to how we will reserve our spots, etc.

From here it sure looks like the date is March 31st.

The times for the tours are 7:00pm and 9:00pm.

So the next question is what time would everyone prefer?  With daylight savings time starting early this year it will still be light for the early tour so I suggest the 9PM tour.  We do want to be able to take photos.

Anyone have any other thoughts?  I'm going to go ahead and put this on the calendar for the 31st.

The link that Bonnie posted is the one you want to use.  The Charleston Ghost and Dungeon Walking Tour is correct.  I went there and the cost if you get the tickets on-line is $15.  Be sure and have a printer connected as according to the info, you will print your e-ticket when you complete your payment information.

We should probably confirm here when we have purchased tickets as space is limited.

I have purchased 2 tickets for the 9PM Ghost and Dungeon Tour.  That takes care of Dianna and me.  Purchasing on-line still totaled $18 each due to a $2 processing fee.  Anyway, who else has confirmed with ticket purchases?  It's too far away to tell much about the weather but be sure and take a look at the cancellation information.  If for some reason we decide not to go after purchasing the ticket, you can reschedule 24 hours before your time but you can't get a refund.

Looking forward to a great outing!  ;D

I talked to Mike tonight and he sounded interested.  He said he would let us know.  I told him about the forum again and he said he was getting back on the net from home now.  At one time he was having trouble doing that and only getting on from work.  That's why we had not seen him here.

I told him how to get tickets or that he could register here and get the info on getting tickets.

It would be great if Nancy and Chele could go too.

I'm sorry I haven't been keeping up, I have had 2 closing the last 2 weeks (YEAH!!!) and been very busy. This weekend I was working on the barn and fell (on a previously bad knee) and I have to have get the arthroscopic surgery this week now instead of next month, I am pretty sure that it won't be a big deal and am still planning on being able to come. The knee is doing okay, a little stiff still. I have a flu now, :( but besides that okay. I am afraid that my grandfather has called and decided to come and visit with us on the 27th so I am not going to be able to go on the trip. He is 90 so I don't want to say no to the visit.

You need to spend as much time with the older folks while you have them. No telling when you won't be able to...

I hope you get to feeling better. The flu is rough!

From the weather this morning we may have to take an umbrella.  They said the only chance of rain in the next 10 days was Saturday.  Would be just our luck.  We do need some rain though to wash this pollen out of the trees.

We also need to get some more batteries. That last batch we bought stinks.

If Dianna's foot don't get better by Friday we will be postponing.  We will have to re-shedule for later in the month of April I guess.

Welll, I guess I will have to go one way or the other, because I don't know how to get in touch with any of the others that said they were going.

I will be able to make it. I am staying off my foot as much as possible. If nothing else, I will use crutches...

Virginia says she has a wheelchair she could loan me, too...

Well, looks like Dianna will be hobbling along tomorrow night.  The weather is supposed to be nice and no rain.  I think they said a possibility of rain on Sunday now.  Hope it stays that way.  I'm bringing my camera and my voice recorder and a flashlight.  Think I'll leave the EMF and thermometer home for this trip.

Susan are you going to make the drive down from Myrtle Beach?

I will be definitely hobbling. I just have one request...

If we encounter anything, please don't leave me behind! (https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi20.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb203%2FDixieAngelsMom%2FGraphics%2FSmileys%2520Galore%2Flaugh3.gif&hash=4f726aed45fdd3b35c0724eb205f139773e819e3)

I think we should carry them. I may have the opportunity to use both if I have to sit down and rest....

I am sooooo excited! Can't wait to see what we can see...

Does this mean nothing happened? Was it at least fun?

That's right, Tina! Nothing happened....

We didn't make the tour. In downtown Charleston, SC, there are no places to park after dark. When we finally found a spot, we walked at least two miles trying to find the darn tour place. The directions that were printed out with our tickets, needless to say, were not helpful at all. When we finally found it, the tour had already started without us.

A young lady that was working there, too, told us that if we would follow her, that she would try and help us catch up to them. After walking three blocks, she decided we would never catch them at the rate we were walking because of my foot and crutches.... :(

We decided to give up and walk back to the car. Jim finally left us behind at a church on the sidewalk and went on to get the car and pick us up so I wouldn't have to walk any farther...

I am sooooo disappointed...

The traffic was terrible.  Downtown Charleston is quite busy on a Saturday night and we left in plenty of time.  It should have only taken us 30 minutes to get there, which would have put us there at 8:30 for a 9:00 tour start.  Dianna stated it correctly in that either we were reading the directions wrong or they were wrong.  Add to that, the fact that there are no large street signs in Charleston and you have a good chance of getting lost if you don't know exactly where you are going.

I think if I had of known that we were going to have to find a place to park on the street, I would have either not gone or gone an hour earlier.  Well, there won't be another time.  I've not gone on my first and last Bulldog Tour.  Needless to say, if you ever get to Charleston, trying to park on Market St on a Saturday night is almost impossible.

I'm soooo sorry you guys didn't get in! Here Dianna had been babying her foot all week & hoping she'd be in good enough shape to go on the tour! (https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi75.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fi309%2Fgottahavegraphics%2FSadShakeHead.gif&hash=e09d8898b6820c3dd8906189f9e1f73347121d82) Now I hope she's not back at square one with all that walking she did!

Have you talked to your friends yet, so they know what happened?

I'm proud of her. She tried to keep up, and maneuver the crutches through the crowds of people. She would use the crutches a while then carry them. After close to 40 minutes of walking we thought that was enough. I could start to see the pain in her face and it wasn't worth that. The lady that was trying to find the tour said we could reschedule but I don't think we will. They have a terrible parking problem and I don't intend on going back until it is fixed.

I talked to Polly yesterday. She said that she and her husband were very disappointed with the tour.

She said that it was not at all what they expected, that they were herded along those busy streets like cattle, and they had trouble staying with the group.

She also said that they should not be calling it a ghost tour. It should be called a history tour.

Needless to say that after paying $36.00 for tickets and $7.00 to park, I think that they wished that they had stayed home and watched A&E on tv.

She did say that she saw what looked like a black shawdow on the wall of St. Phillips Church. They took a picture, but the entire picture turned out black.

Did you try to call them?  Bulldog Tours I mean.  We didn't talk with them so I didn't try to call.  I don't have any desire to reschedule at a later date so guess we will just chalk it up to experience and avoid those kind of tours from now on.  I guess we can see why Chris and Ashley didn't want to go as they had attended the one for the Jail.

The other tour that we went on the jail  was good, but it was private. It was still through Bull Dog Tours. I guess you have to get a private one for it to be worth a darn.
