Aaarrrggghhh! :tickedoff:
I tried from 6:30 this morning to get on the forum and it would not let me in until just a few minutes ago. Message read...
Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.
I was about to pull my hair out... :thpullhairout:

jim and dianna, a couple of the graphics in the section headers are coming up as having "moved" or "been delelted" from photo bucket. not a scream so much as a heads up for you?
-
I am the culprit that did that, Jennifer. Jim is aware of it, but hasn't had a chance to fix it yet...
-
ok... as long as you know about it!
-
We do. Thank you...:)

All fixed now.

:good2:

alright, was i the only one who couldn't get on here for over an hour this afternoon?
-
Arrrggghhhh! :tickedoff:
I haven't been able to get here since 11:30 this morning. I wanna bop someone over the head for using up all the resources... :smack:
-
It's not really that. It's more than likely the route that is being taken to get to the forum. Try this next time it happens.
Open a CMD window (click START > Run > type CMD
In that window type >ipconfig /flushdns
Close that window and then see if you can get to the forum. That clears your DNS cache on your system. It's a Windows thing!
-
Jennifer had problems, too, so it is not only me. I think someone is hogging all the bandwidth again. They need to learn to share... :naughty:
-

Well, since everything is working now, guess I won't be able to find out if it works, or not. I will write this down so I will know to try it the next time. Thank you, Honey... :-*

i am also having problems. sometimes the site loads slowly, sometimes it loads in plain text, sometimes it loads without any background. tina was having problems too!
i got tina to a cmd window. and flushed my dns. it isn't helping as much as i think it should. i am still loading slowly at best.

Same problems. I think it is a wee bit faster with the cmd dump

May just be a routing issue, from the trace route below.

I had problems last night too. Nothing was loading for me and I finally just gave up and went to bed. It's loading this morning albeit slowish
-
Sounds like resource issues. I will open a ticket with our host to see if they can tweak something. Keep in mind we are on shared hosting which means we are sharing resources.
UPDATE:
Support responded that last night they were doing the final migrations from our old host and there was a very large database that had to be loaded. When that happens, no matter how robust the system, things slow down. They confirmed that was taking place about the time everyone was experiencing the sluggish response from the forum. They will leave the ticket open for about 24 hours in case there are further issues. Be sure and let me know.
-
Looks good today so far. Thanks, Jim.
-
Figured that was done when migration took place, that sure been a long time. Of course, never migrated before so have no clue what takes place. Or was the large db for someone else, not related to SSH.
Some forums are like having the first cup of coffee to me, if you know what I mean, been like that for years for certain forums. Runs better.
-
The large database was for another site. Our database was migrated along with the forum files.

yes, i check them as soon as i get online. only this is the only one these days!

jim, whatever they were doing last night, they must be doing it again tonight. barb, tina, and i are all having intermittent problems at best. slow loading, graphics not loading right, no backgrounds, etc.
-
Yep, but it seems to be a bit better right this minute. It took a full 3 minutes for a page to load. Now they are loading better.

i was thinking that same thing. as soon as i posted it got a little better.
-
But it is still a little sick again.
-
Seems good this morning.
-
I updated my support ticket and the response was:
We are working on the problem. We hope to have a solution in for testing this afternoon and to production this evening.
At one point I got an email stating that the forum wasn't able to connect to the database last night. I think that was around 9:30 PM. Anyway they are working on it.
-
Thanks Jim. It is still a little sluggish this morning.
-
Page loads are still taking longer than normal for me. They implemented a change at 7:30PM. I don't think it has helped at all.
-
It is an intermittant problem for me, but not to the point of giving up as I have done previously.
-
Runs a lot better, but still see page created in 2 to 8 seconds at times. Slowly getting back to normal.
At least its not 27 seconds that I posted earlier (http://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/index.php?topic=4859.msg158556#msg158556).

That's true. Guess I'll give a few days before updating the ticket again to see if things get better.
-
I have been able to navigate the last 15 minutes or so but it took diligence and patience. I kept getting timed out pages.
-
One of the problems gives me a page that says this:
The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
-
That's a browser error message that means the server is taking too long to render the page.
-
Yep it's taking a loooong time to load the pages.
-
Hope they are working on the server, or least at some point will.
Getting up to 25 second page loads again, sure in time it'll work out.
-
Yea, same message at 4 pm today. It finally just opened after I went off to check FB and my mail, etc.
-
yup, taking a long time to load for me too.
-
it isn't too bad for me right now. but i haven't been on much until now...
-
Its loading fast for me this morning @ 6 a.m.
-
WOW, page created in 47.843 seconds. Still load times vary from under a second up to 50 seconds.
This sure is taking way to long for it to get solved.
-
Yep, that is way too long. I updated the ticket with support and they are planning on moving some of the larger resource hogs off the server we are on. They will be doing that tonight. It really sounds like when our host sold the company, the new company didn't really have a plan to allocate the sites to severs making sure the large sites aren't overloaded on one server. Poor planning!
Anyway hopefully we will see some improvement this weekend. I just renewed the site for another year so they better get it fixed or I'll be asking for my money back. :tapfoot1:
-
8:54 Central time. It's messing up again. My post in the spirit lounge didn't take the first time, had to repost it, and pages taking a bit long to load.
-
ok, it wasn't just me. good. my computer was misbehaving a few minutes after i couldn't get here to load. i wasn't sure if it was here or the computer.
-
The main reason I posted that they were moving some of the larger sites tonight was to let you know that you may experience some issues tonight. They are working on the issue.
-
Upon replying to this, page created in 0.202 seconds, much much better.
Wonder if those larger sites are off now, things here will get back to normal.
-
I got an email last night about 12:30 that said the larger site migration was complete. I was specifically waiting to hear from you and Tina. I think you had the longest reported page load time and I used that when I updated the support ticket once. It appears to be somewhat back to normal. I think I will give it a little more time before reporting that to our host though.
-
Been really fast this morning. Generally between 0.0xx up to 1 second.
-
It is not too bad. I spent the morning deleting old things off my computer though because I was having other issues too.
-
The sluggishness seems to have been fixed for now. I've closed the support ticket with our host.
