I go through more garden gloves than I can shake a stick at. Is it just me? Today at the landscape store I bought real leather gloves. It was the only kind they had. They cost me 9.00. The guy said they should last me awhile. I hope so. Ladies gloves don't even last from one pay day to the next. The canvas gloves that I bought lasted 2 years before they got a hole in them. They were men's gloves and didn't fit real well but it was better than the alternative.
What kinds of gloves do you wear? Do you like them and how long do they last you?

I had a pair of leather gloves and they did last a long time. I need to get some more because the others don't last anytime at all.
-
I bought some at Home Depot a couple months ago that have rubber over the them. Does that make sense? So far I really like them.
-
I have a pair of leather gloves for wrestling with blackberries. They are still in great shape after several years. I also have a pair of canvas with goatskin on the palms...those are great, too.
Mostly, though...I don't use gloves. And my hands show that!

I use gloves when I remember. Especially when I am hauling wood and such. I do wear out a lot of men's work gloves. I have tried all types to see if there is something I like better than others. There are some that are better for heavy work and some that are good for light duty. Mostly for light duty I just use the blue nitrile gloves. And sometimes I use them under work gloves. I like them because they do help keep some of the ingrained dirt out. I still need to put away my tools and cook something sometimes. I don't like to eat when there is dirt that doesn't wash off when I do dishes.

Do you find that your hands sweat a lot when you were the ones with rubber on them?
I was so suprised by how comfortable the leather ones were when I was working. I like!
-
I've got rubber gloves too and my hands don't sweat.
-
I got some good ones at Home Depot last year that are a nice blue plaid, and look like work gloves, but have a tight cuff so that dirt doesnt go down your gloves at the wrist.
-
I have a question. Anyone have a good plan for how to clean leather gloves?
I like the tight band idea. I do get dirty down inside.
-
I posted somewhere else before I saw that you've asked the question. I wash and dry mine. They are a little small at first but stretch right back out.
-
I have a couple pairs, and maybe i should start washing mine, they look so pretty until they get dirty :giggle:
-
Mine lasted a long time so I don't think the washing hurt their endurance. I finally got holes in the fingers because even though I have a shovel I tend to dig with my hands.
-
me too. If i can't play in the dirt what's the use of gardening?
-
I need gloves. Gotta make a trip to Lowe's.
-
Enjoy, I hope you find really good ones.
I added corn starch to the inside of my leather ones and now they feel so smooth when I put them on it is a dream and I don't feel the sweat as much because the starch absorbs it. Loving the gardening. I learn something new all the time.

I just got back from Lowe's and totally forgot the gloves. Phooey.
-
An excuse to go back and maybe pick up some plants or seeds while your there?

I'm in need of a new pair or two. Seems they don't last like they used too.
