After all the rain we have had this seems like some great information to share:

We are seeing more of the larger mosquitoes this year than we have in years past. When we were looking at the land that we currently own, you couldn't get out of the vehicle after 5:00PM in the evening without some type of spray to keep them off you.

Very glad I am not much of a beer drinker.
-
As far as I know, none of those apply to me, but skeeters sure do love me.
-
According to my military dog tags, I'm O Pos, and doubt my blood type changed over the years (1989).
Thats the only thing from the list.
-
OK, I honestly don't know my blood type. lol
-
they don't like me much anymore. not as much as others. i think it is the meds i'm taking.
-
Be glad these don't like you. We have lots of them around the house now. These are
African Asian Tiger Mosquitoes. They don't buzz to let you know they are around like the smaller ones do.

This one got in my truck last night when we got home and rode with me to work today. I knew he wouldn't make it long in the closed up truck with the heat index reaching 100°+. Of course the penny is there for a size reference.
These are some big skeeters!
-
Dang thats huge, just the small here as far as I know.
-
My understanding is the big ones don't carry the diseases the smaller ones do. But they certainly do bite!
-
ick
-
we have those here. more of those than the little ones. i was reading that they don't carry as many diseases, but there is one that they do carry that is as bad as some of the others. i just can't remember what i read about it. some we have are bigger than that one.

Looks like I messed up the name of these. It's Asian instead of African. Here is a fact sheet from Clemson.

Jim, we have those new to Kansas this year. They are easier to see and kill than the smaller ones - but there sure seem to be MORE of them than normal.
As a rule, mosquitoes hate me. Adam and the girls (covered in DEET) will get devoured while I (w/o any chemicals 'cause I'm allergic) may only get a bite or two on a bad night.

that's me sarah. scott gets eaten alive and they won't even try to bite me, even if they land on me. and they don't often even land on me.

Some people are naturally repellant. :grinnnn:
That said for fun, it is true. I do think it may have something to do with medicines people take.
-
Well my meds don't make me naturally repellant. I can be outside for 3 minutes and come in with several bites.
-
I think you attract them because you're sooooo good lookin'
-
ha ha ha ha

I think they like Dianna and I equally well. When we got home from karaoke the other night, they were all around us while we were parking the trailer.
Yesterday while we were mowing, I had to use some spray when I got close to the woods and the neighbor's back field. These tiger mosquitoes like the tall grass and I guess because of the tall grass the ground stays damp. Anyway they were bad until I got away from the property edge. Thank goodness for the spray.
-
I've been reading about oregano oil and thought of Dianna because it works as an insect repellent. You smell like sphaghetti but the bugs don't bite ya.
-
I might have to get some oregano oil capsules for this summer then. I sure don't like those buzzards feasting on me.... :Whack:
-
Did I tell you guys that I got some oregano oil, not in capsules, and when I put a tiny bit on a Qtip had an asthma attack? Did it to myself 3 times because I couldn't believe it. I could get capsules and put the oil in the capsules and try it that way but I'm not gonna.
-
Don't mess with that stuff, Sheri.

i agree. an asthma attack signals something wrong. but you know that.
