Title: C:/Windows/System32/Cmd
Post by: bestofour on Jun 28, 2011, 07:11:44 PM
is a window I get every time I sign on now.  It's just a black window with that address at the top.  I can enlarge it or minimize it or delete it just like I can this window.  I ran CCCleaner, my virus protector and analyzed to see if I need to defrag which I don't.  What is it?

somehow you have the command prompt (that is the name of that window) in your start up.  look at  your start up menu in your "all programs" on your start menu.

I don't see it.  Is it going to cause a problem?

Do you have a program called Clear All History installed?

Using CCleaner, go to the Tools menu and click on the Startup button.  Copy and paste that info here.

I restored to an earlier date and it didn't do it this time.  Am I clear?

I don't have Clear All History installed.  I'll paste the info.  Let me get it.

If restoring to an earlier date cleared it up, then some place you browsed to had possibly installed some malicious software.  Be sure and take note if it starts to happen again.

All of that is on your Startup menu?  That looks more like your installed software.

Normally you can do a screen capture with Alt and Print Screen to capture the current window.  Ctrl and Print Screen will capture the entire desktop.  You would need to save that to a jpg file and then upload to one of the pic sites and then link here in order for us to see it.

nothing is happening for me when I do a Ctrl and Print Screen but you're right.  It's not all that stuff.

I looked up the NVCplDaemon, which is evidently something bad, but don't understand how to get rid of it.

This is related to your video card. It does not need to be in your start up. Go Here (http://www.daniweb.com/hardware-and-software/microsoft-windows/viruses-spyware-and-other-nasties/threads/40301) and follow directions to remove from start up.

While looking at CCleaner startup info... right-click on something and a sub menu shows, click save to text file, everything in the startup will be added to a text file.

I also have NVCplDaemon on mine. And is important for graphics, not bad (nvcpldaemon is a NVidia Graphics Library Module).

There are 2 startup areas, one you see with ccleaner and the other is in the start menu, under programs, anything related to graphics card gets removed from this, not the startup area shown in screenshot.

I'm no tech, but I believe NVCplDaemon is needed so computer and monitor play well together.

NvCplDaemon is as William said.  It's related to the NVIDIA graphics card.  Here is a link that has information about it.

http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/nvcpldaemon/23308/ (http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/nvcpldaemon/23308/)

Don't remove it or you will most likely have issues.

LogMeIn might concern me if you didn't install it.  It allows your computer to be accessed remotely.

Sorry, I read that it could be removed from start up and any changes you wanted to make could be done by manually opening the program.??

LogMeIn was  loaded so my brother in law can work on my computer if he needs too.

In that case, I don't see anything there now that would cause a problem.  If it starts to occur again, be sure and compare you startups then with what they are now to see what if anything has changed.

I have another issue.  I got a message that my task manager has been disabled by the administrator.  How do I fix it?

If you didn't disable it, then it's possible that a virus did.  Are you running XP Home or XP Pro, or Windows 7?

XP Home

Run a complete virus scan.  Once that comes back clean, follow the below steps.

Click Start, then click Run, type in regedit, and click on OK.

Expand these registry keys in turn:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER

    Software

    Microsoft

    Windows

    CurrentVersion

    Policies

    System

You should see something similar to this:

(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.askleomedia.com%2Fregdisabletaskmanager.png&hash=1cf4104aeb6eaf9ccedc51396ce9a32258d48809)

Right Click on the DisableTaskMgr item:

(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.askleomedia.com%2Fregdeletedisabletaaskmanager.png&hash=5b244600ea96d31c80192cd8d52b39ea0af37035)

Click on Delete, confirm that you want to delete, and Task Manager should be available once again.
