I saw some totes at the quilt show that were priced at 15.00 each and above. It seemed steep to me but then I'm on a fixed budget.
-
that is a hard guess triss. but when you figure it out, let me know. i'm interested.
-
I would pay 15.00 for a quilted bag.
-
These are not quilted though. I have gotten people saying anywhere from 25 down to 10 and I just have no clue. I did figure out it costs about 10 in material and about 3 hours of straight work.
-
triss, it is one of those things that you will not make your money out of them if you include your time. but i would like to see you turn a profit. they do look good though.
-
Its too bad you couldnt stock pile enough and sell them at a craft fair/booth.
-
I could do that as well. If someone makes an offer on one I have ready to go, I will see it. Otherwise I will save them.
-
I finished up a few more gift bags last week...
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2F100_0343.jpg&hash=81288a42edc8e6292370f02b7dfaff216665c843)
-
Beautiful fabric, Triss! They are fun and easy to make, aren't they?
-
They are... I want to start buying the leftovers that WM keeps in a shopping cart so I can have a wide variety of them. I got lucky last week and scored some Thomas the train fabric, enough to make Mikey a bag like Charlies.
-
I like those ones Triss, very colorful.
-
i like that triss. you are doing great with those!
-
Thanks everyone. I really do like Jessica's pattern.
-
Those would make a good purse for when you are carrying only your walet, and dont want to lug a big bag.
-
I love mine.
-
That is a good idea Penny. What uses have you found for yours Sheri? Right now all the ones I have made are just sitting in a box... of course all of my stuff is like that right now.
-
I carry my lunch in one, I use them to haul around my knitting and have also used them for books. Tristen has used his as an overnight bag when he stays at grandma's, to haul his swimming stuff and also to take some toys along. I love them. They are very versatile.
-
Mine are too small for those kinds of things but I can see bigger ones being used for the stuff you do. I think once I get my craft room set up at the new house, I will have to make some bigger ones for my projects. I always have more than one going and it would be nice to be able to hang them up out of the way.
-
Yes, if you are doing afghans they definitely wouldn't be big enough. I use them for smaller projects.
-
But they would work for scarves. I use the larger bags I make for my afghans.
-
I have library books in mine right now Triss. It's the perfect size.
-
That is great Sheri. I get too many books at one time for that to work for me.
-
Or bags for the kids, those would be great for that.
-
Just got my latest bag out of the dryer... It is a theme bag for our schools... both of them actually as the Tigers were the mascot for our old school and new. A lady at our new grocery store asked if I made bags in these colors cuz she liked the one I have been using. I am going to take it over to her and see if she is interested in buying it.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2F100_0543.jpg&hash=b8febe08b25b2e5af0efafe64040c09191597f37)
-
Very nice, Triss. I take it that is orange and not as red as it looks in the photo?
-
Yes it is orange... not very good light today with it being cloudy and rainy. The fabric reminds me of lava.
-
That is great, Triss! Hopefully she will buy it and spread the word. Maybe you can make a little extra cash making them!
-
That is the hope Jessica.
-
Good luck! Though I don't think you need it, that is a great bag!
-
Thanks Barb.
-
i really like that triss.
-
Thanks. I started work on my bag today. The one I am using now is too small and the handle is too short. It also has no pockets which I really need. I ran out of thread though.
-
see, that's why i want to make my own bags. handle length and pockets.
-
I need one pocket for my phone and one for my smokes... so I used two back pockets...
This is the side of my new bag... more greens, my favorite color...
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2F100_0547.jpg&hash=88f509e57a7d2969836a4a265e07a87fb1a917f3)
And the pocket which will be on the inside... there will be a pocket on the other side as well.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2F100_0546.jpg&hash=6a69487d6c9021ba48d6e59ce212d218f258792d)
Describe your perfect bag to me Jenn.
-
cool. It is fun to see it in a half done state. That is going to be pretty
-
I think it will be great Tina. I love these bags because they are so forgiving... one does not have to be exact because once it frays, it hides all of the imperfections.
-
oh gosh. ok. handles that i can put it on my shoulder, but it doesn't drag the floor if it slides down my arm.
2-3 outside pockets. for keys, chapstick, checkbook, note pad. my current purse has the perfect outside pockets but the inside sucks.
inside would be one zipper pocket for the things i don't want to lose if it tips, my pocket knife, tweezers, nail clipers, etc. then other, random sized pockets inside to organized. but not an "organized" bag. if that makes sense. the best bag i ever had was one of those quilted jobs that was popular a while back. had pockets on each end (just right for the cell phone) and a patch pocket on the front and back (perfect for the other stuff i mentioned). then, inside, there were a total of 6 pockets, but they were really just one big pocket that was divided when the handles were sewn on. the only thing it didn't have was a flat bottom (one thing i like about your jean bags). but the way the pockets inside were made, it didn't need a zipper for the inside pockets. i can take a picture of it if you want. i still have it, frayed handles and all. oh, and it has to be washable. i am hard on them :giggle: the only other thing i'd say is that i carry a bigger bag than i would other wise because i carry 4 pill bottles with me at all times. 2 are pills that can't be put in a pill box (labeling legalities) and 2 that i prefer to keep in the original bottle because i don't take them often and would forget what they were. then, there is my camera, brush, wallet, etc.
and, i love the multi color of your current bag in the works. would match everything i own!
-
Yes, a picture would be great. Sounds like a great bag. What dimensions would be the best for the length, width, handles?
-
I love those Triss......how cool!
-
I like the colors on this bag. Very colorful without being overly bright. You do nice work on all your projects. Is there anything you can't make?
-
Your bag looks great so far, Triss. I'm sure it will be just as beautiful as the rest!
-
Oh I hope not Barb... I like to think I could manage anything I tried but who knows.
-
That was a rhetorical question, as I'm sure anything you tried to make would turn out perfect. You have talent and an eye for color.
-
Thanks. I sure do have a lot of fun creating.
-
I finished up and am using my bag now...
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2F100_0553.jpg&hash=fc8db8d6c6c763c2b70d68bd36502ad887ff6a18)
with its pocket for my phone

Then I made up some pocket purses...

Lys claimed the big one with the flowers.
-
Very cute. I made Jonni one of those a few years ago and then she made a few of her own. But she is into bigger (more expensive) purses these days.
-
I am sure Lys will get into those more expensive ones as well but for now these make her very happy. She said she was going to use it to hold her phone and chapstick on days she wears her capri's with no pockets.
-
i like that triss. and like that she has a clue about having pockets when she doesn't.
-
She is one smart cookie... She tried getting rid of a pair of pants the other day cuz it didn't have pockets and she carries stuff around all of the time... this pocket purse will help that.
-
of course she is a smart cookie. you are her mom!
-
-
Triss. I really do like the colors on this one!
-
My first attempt at a diaper bag...
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2F100_0558.jpg&hash=abb371198fc86226ed9575d6b50d0f891893f92a)
with cute little pockets on both sides of the inside...

The very cute cow material was a gift from Sheri that I was finally able to put to good use. I am working on a boy theme bag and using some material that Wrennie sent to me.
-
that is cute!
-
Those are all adorable Triss!
-
look at etsy.com and see what kind of prices they're getting there.
-
That are adorable, Triss!! And the baby pocket is priceless!
-
Good idea Wrennie... thanks!
I thought I would include a pacifier for the pocket along with the gift, if I gift it. I want to make some smaller ones as well but I know I used the largest diaper bag I could find for my older kiddos.
-
I was going to comment that I like the cow material. I had forgotten that I sent it.
-
You did... I also cut into the grasshopper material you sent but I am not sure what kind of bag I am going to make with it yet.
-
They're all cute Triss!
What kind of machine do you have? (or did ya already say?)
-
I have an older... 20 years or so Limited Home USA machine that my dad bought me. It sat pretty much unused for the first 10 years of its life and rarely used for the next 5... it is only in the last 5 years or so that I have given it the use it deserves.
-
My latest jean square bags.

-
Great job, Triss! :good2:
-
Those look great, Triss.
-
I finished two bags today...
Blue and Green Bug Bag
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2F100_1236.jpg&hash=deb10b425c56c0366e05771bf62789948e50314e)
Circles Galore Bag

-
Awesome, Triss.
I think, as they are slowly doing away with grocery bags here, I might make some. I want ones where the handles go all the way around the bottom for extra strength. I have seen too many store bought bag's handles tear loose with canned goods and heavy things added.
-
I am sure eventually that everywhere will get rid of in store bags and we will all be using reusable ones. I will have to try a reinforced basic shopping bag one of these days. Of course I will also have to try actually taking my own bags, the ones I made for me, to the store when I go shopping.
-
Very nice, Triss. I always forget the reusables that I have too.
-
We will all get better about having them with us when they need to be.
-
triss, i took the bag you sent me with me last time i went for groceries. tonight, it carried crochet with me.
-
Nice bags, Triss! :good2:
-
Those look great, Triss......well done!
-
Nice job Triss!
-
How did it work out for the groceries Jen? I have not used that style in the grocery store yet (see note above about forgetting them here at home)
Thank you all!
-
it worked fine. i would do a few things different if i were making it. interfacing in the bottom for example. the bottom is a little "floppy" for shopping. but it worked well. i liked that it rolls up nice and small, and can go from shopping to crochet bag in an instant.
i should be better at typing...
-
That is all good to know!
-
I've got two bags in my car for grocery shopping that I've yet to use because I forget to take them into the store. Good intentions....
-
I am glad I am not the only one!
-
My niece asked for a smaller version of my striped bags... this is what I came up with. I hope she likes it, I do not care for the size too much... way to small for my needs.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2F100_1495.jpg&hash=b0e529042146fb8666aaf9247240742d1bc5e83d)
-
Cool!
-
i like it. i think she will too. my girls both carried small purses until they started working. now they carry slightly larger ones. but next year, when babies arrive... :giggle:
-
Yes, next year will be another story.
Great job, Triss. Of course it is hard to tell the size is any different from your others. Something for contrast next time might help.
-
Good idea... it is about half the size of the other bags... 9" tall by 7" wide. I do love the colors though... I am partial to greens.
-
I like it, too. I am partial to greens, also...:)
-
I think that is just lovely, Triss. I'm with the girls, I like small purses.
-
My latest over-sized shopping bag.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2Fcrafts%2F100_1496.jpg&hash=4406f7d81b4133f9e99fe7c42f3ad1da98945995)
-
I like that one. I am fond of blues. :grinnnn:
-
I like the blue too.
-
:good2:
-
Thanks. I like the blues as well.
-
They're both nice. I prefer blue to green too but that green fabric is cool!
-
For anyone who did not read the long winded tut... my latest bag.
(https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi219.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fcc62%2Ftriss07pics%2FMessenger%2520bag%2F100_1526.jpg&hash=d9af9cae9a2c45f6089bceb014b1c98d7efbc746)
-
Triss, you do great work. Is this for someone specific? Or are you planning to sell it?
-
That ones nice too. As for stiffening the bottoms for shopping, the fabric bags I have and (should) reuse (more) there is a stiff piece of, uh, vinyl I guess. Which is removable when washing.
-
I am going to put that one up to sell. I need to check around and see if others are making similar ones to get a price range.
I have seen those inserts in other bags of mine from the grocery stores.
-
Both look great, and i really like the blue too!
-
:stars:
Wow
Didnt know you sewed Triss......I love to also.
My favorite bag is the one on the first page , red an denium.
squares.
What else do you make /
Love learning more tricks.
Thanks

I make the jean square bags, shopping bags, over-sized bags, jean square quilts and just recently the jean messenger bags.
