Me too!
I don't mind some snow for the skiers, but I don't like the cold!

Geesh, it was cold and drizzing rain today.  When I came out of my night class at 9:55 it was 22 degrees and windy.  It felt like needles were going through my face.  (https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb55%2Fthewrensnest%2Fsmileys%2Fwinter_brr.gif&hash=fac9921ec417b21ca2388c068500d392a20f3f28)  It's 18 right now and with the wind chill it feels like 10 degrees.  I want SPRING!!!

Not too bad out there today 40-ish and soggy, but I hope the rest of the rain holds off for a day or so so that what we got can soak in

I would be so sick of snow if I were in your position, Penny.... :(

It is wintery looking here, but we are having the rain, not the white stuff. We can use the rain to make up for our deficit. Lake Marion sure looks terrible being so low... :(

Well, the sun is shining and it's 35 degrees, but the wind is blowing, so it feels pretty chilly out there.  Of course, the noon news reported we have an artic front moving in so we can expect some much colder temperatures this weekend.  :SmileyFit: Geesh, I hate to hear that you're still getting more snow, Penny, it seems like you've have your share of it this winter.  :(  So far, we've been pretty fortunate, but winter's not over yet.   :ScratchHead:

It has been cold but cloudy here.  We had snow on Monday night and Wednesday night, not a lot, just enough to ice the streets really and have school start late.

Okay, it's 11 degrees with a wind chll of 0, so it mighty cold tonight. (https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb55%2Fthewrensnest%2Fsmileys%2Fbrrrrrrrrrrr.gif&hash=d5dfb9a8912a0d5ea6964f64f6968b9b2d75ffb5)  They say this weahter is supposed to last throughout the weekend, then it's going to warm up before we get hit with the next cold spell.  Actually, that's really not so bad when you can get some brief relief from the cold, it sure makes it a whole lot easier to deal with.  ;)

30f here right now light wind around 20mph don't know the chill factor . Saw snow flurries yesterday but was so light and fast I wasn't sure I saw them till the news said we had some. I gripe about the heat in summer but I wish it was a little warmer . This is supposed to last till midweek. Thermometer on my porch showed 20f when I got up this morning .

It's been raining here all day.  Temperature is about 40*.  They had said that we might get some flurries but now it appears that the moisture is moving out faster than the cold air.  Anyway we sure needed the rain.  Last time I checked we had gotten about 1.18 inches.  We sure need it.

Here are some shots of our front yard.  Our soil is mostly clay so it drains kind of slow.

Geesh, Jim, 40 degrees sounds like spring to me right now!  ;)  We've been in the teens all day and now it's 13 degrees with 14 mph winds.  Tonight we're going down to 4, so I think an extra blanket will be needed.  (https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb55%2Fthewrensnest%2Fsmileys%2Fwinter_brr.gif&hash=fac9921ec417b21ca2388c068500d392a20f3f28)

I don't know what the temp was earlier today, cuz I was busy napping, but it's 46° out there right now, & the sun is shining. :grinnnn:

I went out & checked on my Mandevilla, & she's doing fine... still trying to bloom!

         (https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi75.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fi309%2Fgottahavegraphics%2FMisc%2FMandevilla1-20-08.jpg&hash=3136b3f90444951a7bf6efe8c04728e9b79f44e4)

We've had frost a few times & within the past month the temps have been down to 29° at night a couple times, but my Gazanias, Tall Lisianthus & Dianthus are snuggled in for the winter, under pieces of old throw rugs & my Mandevilla trellis is all wrapped up in a chunk of indoor/outdoor carpeting.
     (https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi75.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fi309%2Fgottahavegraphics%2FMisc%2FCoveredGarden1-20.jpg&hash=e036ff0afd4ccd99b4e5ab576a1b22954a6f1d66)
I don't usually do this; I just let most of the gardens die off & replant them again, in the spring... but they were all still blooming when winter hit, & I didnt have the heart to cut anything back! :Crybaby: (Notice the die-hard Calendula in the foreground!)

When I was out there with my camera, I was really surprised to see my Periwinkle (Vinca) blooming! :yikes:
     (https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi75.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fi309%2Fgottahavegraphics%2FMisc%2FVinca1-20-08.jpg&hash=0b38a54b5c8972f48f755210226ce5abceacb01b)

I also didnt have the heart to cut back my Sunscape Daisies (Osteospermum) for winter, so I covered them with plastic trays & stacked my yard benches on it all, for good measure.
     (https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi75.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fi309%2Fgottahavegraphics%2FMisc%2FSunscapes-winterized1-20-08.jpg&hash=e0ad906f34ec3ffe849055d8eedc01d9f7c19025)
We'll see how that works out, cuz I almost lost them all last winter, when I didn't cover them at all. :ScratchHead:

Well, Patty, it got up to 26 degrees here today, but it's at 16 right now, so I'm just staying inside.

Geesh, I always have such a a hard time cutting down things that are still blooming, so I try to wait as long as possibl.  ;)

Well, tonight we're under a severe winter weather alert.  They're predicting a wintry mix of snow and sleet this evening then turning to all snow overnight.  The low will be low 29 degrees, with winds at 10 to 15 mph.  Snow accumulations will be less than one inch, but they are saying the roads could be slick.  I just hope it all clears up before I have to go to school.

It got c-c-c-cold here last night! (https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb55%2Fthewrensnest%2Fsmileys%2Fwinter_brr.gif&hash=fac9921ec417b21ca2388c068500d392a20f3f28) We heard that 17° was coming overnight, so I went out yesterday & wrapped up the outdoor water faucets, closed the air vents along the foundation of the house, & put heavier covers on some plants. (I even went so far as to put a night light in a box, at the base of my Mandevilla. :nutz: I've done this kinda thing before, & "where there's light there's heat", so it doesn't really take much to keep something from freezing in a closed-in space.) (https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi75.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fi309%2Fgottahavegraphics%2FSmileyOk.gif&hash=f7773c70aa8c89b6918998cf943ee9022cc2ce8a)

I don't know if it got down to 17° or not, but it was 22° when I got up. It's crisp & clear, & the sun is shining... doing its best to warm things up, but has only climbed 4 degrees in the last 2 hours. (We're not used to this brand of cold... I'm just glad there isn't any wind!)

Well, it's very cold and windy today.  The roads were fine by the time I left for school, but walking was still a problem because it was pretty slick.  I'll sure be glad to get back home this evening.

Boy, it's beautiful here today.  :Yahoo:  The sun is shining and it's 55 degrees with no wind.  I went to church early this morning, came home and changed my clothes and I've been out messing around in the yard.  :yay_jump:  Geesh, I've even got all my windows open so I can get some fresh air in the house. :banana02:  Tommorrow it's supposed to get up to 60 with wind and showers, but after that it's going to start dropping again. :SmileyFit:  Oh well, I'm just very thankful for what we have today, and I'm sure going to enjoy it.   ;)   We're not used to getting such a wonderful reprieve in January, but God is good!!!  :yesssss:

Well, it looks like it's our turn with the white stuff! :SmileyFit: We haven't missed it in the least, since we left Montana, & up until a few years ago ...as soon as we got here, it seems, it virtually never snowed in this area! (Murphy's Law, dont you know!) :rolleyes1:

The temp dropped from 40° to 34° within 10 minutes, just before church, then it started snowing, & when we stopped for breakfast on our way back home, we watched a couple inches build up while we were in the restaurant. It was sorta pretty, but sitting there turned out not to be a very good idea, cuz there's a little hill just before we get to our driveway, & we sorta swerved & swayed on the way up. Then when he started to turn onto the incline of our driveway, the car had its own agenda, & it was all Keith could do to keep from hitting the motor home! :Smileystop:  PhotoBucket has distorted my pic, so you probably can't see the tire tracks that stop about 2 feet from the RV... & there's about 23" of car nose, sticking out in front of the tires! :SmileyNailbiting:
     (https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi75.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fi309%2Fgottahavegraphics%2FMisc%2FSnow-driveway1-27-08.jpg&hash=cb59156105434700ee3d63a2dcdd6bc86832c824)
He tried a couple times, to straighten it out & pull up next to my car, but the car kept trying to fishtail into the motor home, so he just parked it down there. (This is a guy who took drivers ed in the snow when he was a kid! The snow here isn't the kind that people ski in though, so it's like driving in snot!)

I took a pic of the hot tub lid when I got in the house, & 3 hours later, you can't even see the little bluebird rain gauge, & it's supposed to keep doing this until 4:00 in the morning!
     (https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi75.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fi309%2Fgottahavegraphics%2FMisc%2F1230pm1-27-08.jpg&hash=a918e1efa9691a6362b802aa861a669dc70b764d)

Our extended forecast is for warmer temps & rain on Tuesday. The kids don't like that, but personally, I don't have any use for this stuff! :smileyNo: Seems like good weather for a nap.

Hmmm, very interesting, Patty, and you keep trying to convince me to move out there where you have your microclimate. :nutz:  Well, the best part is that it does look pretty right now and you won't have to deal with it for very long.  :wink5:  They are saying we may get some snow late next week, but, actually, that's okay since we've been very fortunate so far this winter.   :yesssss:

Well, today we got a mix of everything!   :yikes:  Drove to school this morning with the sun shining, my sun roof opened and all the windows in my car rolled down.  I went in and taught my first class but then had to shed my sweater within five minutes of being in class.  After class I went outside to sit in the sun because it was so beautiful and warm.  Some students came by and said it hit a record high of 78 degrees, but there were tornado warnings in the forecast for later in the afternoon, so I went to ask the secretary where the storm shelters were in our new building.  :scaredy:  Fortunately, there was one of them right outside the room I would be teaching in.  :yesssss:  While we were in class we got hit with lots of rain, then sleet, then snow and lots of wind.  It was unreal and scary, but NO tornadoes. ;)  When we got out, I was walking to my car and the wind started blowing so hard I thought I was going to get knocked down right on my face, I finally had to squat down to keep from getting blown over.  I don't know what I looked like, but I didn't care.   When it let up a bit I made my way to a big post and just held on.  I was never so scared in all my life.  :SmileyFear:  I know we've had worse wind than that in the past, but I was always inside and safe and never that far from my car or a building.  :SmileyNailbiting:  Once I got to my car, I just sat there about 15 minutes to collect myself, because I wasn't in any shape to drive.  :smileyNo:  While I was sitting there I noticed I had two missed calls because I have to have my phone turned off while in class.  Well, one call was from my son and the other was from my daughter telling about the strong winds and telling me to stay inside until the winds died down.  Guess I better start checking my messages when I get out of class.  :wink5:  Driving home at 6:00, I had the radio on and they said the temperature was 13 degrees with the wind chill at -1, (https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb55%2Fthewrensnest%2Fsmileys%2Fwinter_brr.gif&hash=fac9921ec417b21ca2388c068500d392a20f3f28)  so this drop from 78 to 14 had actually occurred within 3 hours.  So, we're really lucky we didn't get hit with any tornadoes.  :wink5:

Jimmy, I guess we got some of your wind.  These were straight line winds that just kept coming with no break.

It's about 52* here today and a slow steady rain.  We can use the rain.  Supposed to get some wind later, 15 to 20 knots with gust possible of 30 knots. The rain is supposed to move out later today and they are forecasting sunshine for the weekend and temps in the 60s.  Should be a pretty good weekend if that holds true.

Well, Wrennie, it looks like I'm with you and we're in the same boat!   :SmileyFit: It's very cold here at 21 degrees with a wind chill of 13 degrees.  (https://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb55%2Fthewrensnest%2Fsmileys%2Fbrrrrrrrrrrr.gif&hash=d5dfb9a8912a0d5ea6964f64f6968b9b2d75ffb5) There is white everywhere I look because it snowed all night.  I think they said we got 8.6 inches but some areas got even more.  I think Grafftin which is about 40 miles from here got more than 11 inches, so I'm thinking we were pretty lucky.  ;)

Phil, sounds like you are getting some of that arctic weather they were talking about on the news this morning.  We have cooled down a bit, it was 34* this morning and is 48* now.  I think our high today is supposed to be 60*.  It's not as windy here today as it was yesterday.  We are supposed to get some  :rain3: rain late tomorrow and Wednesday and sunshine the rest of the week.

If it's dry enough I'm going to put the tiller on the tractor and till up the corn patch and my potato patch next weekend.  I think we are going to put some potatoes in about half the space I had for corn last year.

Ya'll try and stay warm!

Geesh, it's still cold here!  The temperature is 23 degrees and with the 15 mph winds our wind chill is 10.  :yikes: The roads are clear, but there's still a lot of icy spots on the walks and parking lots, so you have to be very careful when walking.  Last night, when I went to the funeral home, I took a nice spill the parking lot, but this morning everything seems to be working okay.  :yesssss:  Of course, I am still a little sore in spots.  ;)

It's 27 degrees right now, so it's not terribly cold outside because there's no wind.   :smileyNo: Tomorrow they are saying we are going to get lots and lots of rain, maybe as much as 2 or 3 inches in some places, but the temeperatures are going to stay above freezing.  Sunday, we may have more snow, but that's okay since I don't have to drive to school until Tuesday.  ;)  Geesh, I can just sit here and enjoy the beauty of it.   :yesssss:
