This is just a quick reminder that I will again be hosting a seed swap this winter. Now is the time to start saving seeds so you can join the fun! Last year's swappers got some pretty neat varieties in their packages.
-
:banana02: :banana02: Already plan on saving for it Sarah and including seeds from some of the ones that you sent me in the swap :yesssss:
-
I need to remember to save seeds this year!
-
 Oh please do Triss.....you always have some good ones :grinnnn:
-
Just bumping this up again........is everyone remembering to save some seeds.
I am......i have them drying all over the house (LOL)!!
-
my hollyhock didn't bloom and it's second year I had hoped to harvest them, but I guess not.
-
Duh, I have two different colors of hoolyhock I'll be swapping this year...I'll make sure you get some.
-
I think i have some that i didnt plant this year Duh.
PM me your address.
-
Thanks for the offers. I'll keep them in mind. But I still have so many seeds in my box that I don't really want to add any to it. But I'll contribute and everyone can get some bonus seems maybe. If that's alright.
-
How is everyone doing with their seed saving?
I will have lots of pepper seeds and tomatoes, poppies, coneflowers, daisys, and a few others.
-
I have columbine, maltese cross, arithemis, and malva zebrina packaged. Sweet william and iris drying.
-
Great start Triss~~!!
-
Can someone give me a little rundown on how this works? Does everyone send all of their seeds into one person and they make up packages to go out based on a wish list? Or does everyone just send to anyone who posts a have/wish list?
Curiosity has me here. There isn't much I want but I do have some posies I could share.
-
i'm going to have blackberry lilies the orange ones comming out my ears.
-
Tina, here's the rundown on how it works:
"Everyone who wishes to be involved will send the seeds they want to include in the swap to me. When the deadline rolls around, I will then swap the seeds around, and mail your new seeds back to you.
All types of seeds are welcome; flowers, veggies, trees, shrubs, vines, ect.
Please include at leat 25 seeds in each pack, unless they are small seeds, then the general "rule" is 1/8 tsp. of seeds in each packet. If it's a rare or hard to come by seed, less than 25 is okay, but please be sure to note that on the packet.
Please label each packet with the name of the seeds, and as much info as you can about growing requirements like sun or shade, plant height, ect.
Also put your screen name on each packet, so if there are questions or problems with your seed, we can take care of them.
You may send in as many packets as you would like, but please no more than 10 packets of the same type of seeds. You will get back roughly the same number you sent in.
Mail your seeds to me in a padded (bubble) envelope. Include postage to return the envelope to you.
You may also include a brief (5-10 item) wish list of seeds...I will do my best to get you a few off the list.
The deadline for seeds to reach me will be January 31. My plan is to get them out right after that, so we all get a nice suprise in our mailboxes around valentine's day. "
Tammy, bonus seeds would be a great thing. :grinnnn: Be sure to send along a wish list if there is anything special you are looking for.
-
I would love to see wish lists posted here so I could peruse them and see if I can fulfill anyone's dreams. Most seeds in February are a little late for planting here. I sow most in fall. Or for spring seeded items like morning glories or zinnias I sow in January or so in protected areas for planting out later.
-
Thats great on the blackberry lilies Duh, they are so pretty
-
Ohhh, my seed packs so far only have the name of the flower on them. I can make any new ones with growing info.
Once I get my self together, I will post a wish list Tina and a what I have list in case you see any that you may like. I could always pull a pack or two to mail your way if there is something you could plant earlier than the swap.
-
I guess I need to google to see if blackberry lilies are the same or different than candy lilies.

Triss, I still have the template for seed packets you made for me years ago. Love them.
-
I am so glad Sheri.
-
Hmmm, i think i remember that template too.
Do you still have a copy of it Triss??
-
I probably do or another one if you need it. I will look cuz right now I am using Print Shop for my own templates and I know you would need one in some other program.
-
This is the blank I am using. I put the pic of the flower on the main part in the middle and my info on the top tab though I have to put it on upside down so that it can be viewed properly once it is put together.

-
Thanks Triss.
-
Welcome. If you cannot get it to work, let me know what you want it to say and I can set it up.
-
The blackberry lily seeds won't fit in a normal seed packet. They are too fat. I'm thinking I will just put them in plastic bags and stick in a piece of paper with the growing information on them. Nice thing about them is that when you get them in january you can plant them outside or put them in pots outside if your ground is frozen. They are a winter sow.
On the old computer I had a whole bunch of seed packets but they are all gone now. Does anyone have the old websites with the seed packets on them?
-
I fold mine from squares of paper...no printer required. Sometime soon, maybe tonight, I'll do step by step pictures and post them. I keep a stack of squares handy while watching TV or talking on the phone...kills time, and you can fold quite a few that way.
-
I'd love to see step by step Sarah, i always use the little plastic bags fo rmy seeds,

-
Thanks Sarah.
-
Just checking to see how everyone is doing with saving seeds for the swap?
-
I've got some awesome stuff! How about you guys?
-
I have stuff all together for it as soon as I can find my bubble envelopes or buy new ones.
-
I need to know where to send them???
-
Send a PM to Barleychown (sarah) and she'll give you all the details Johnnie.
-
I think my basil is putting out some seed pods I'll have to get out there and check.
-
Thanks Penny now sorted
-
You are very welcome Johnnie and glad to see you in.
-
Let me see if I can figure this out. We can send in the seeds anytime between now and January 31st?
-
Hmmmm, better send Sarah a PM to double check, but thats how i understand it, is that between now and mid January, you can send the seeds to Sarah, and we receive them back around Valentines Day, or there abouts.
-
Here is the post where Sarah explains it all for this year:

Thanks Jim.

You may sent the seeds to me at any time. I have a big box in the corner of my spare room where everything for this swap goes until it's time to swap.
-
Bumping this as a reminder for the seed swap.
-
I didn't get much to save this year. After I finish drying and bagging I'll see if I have enough for here and Phils house.
-
Flowers or veggies or both?
-
All types of seeds are welcome, Suzydaze... :grinnnn:
-
good, I'll try and get some ready thanks
-
:yay_jump: I'm in! :dancingbunny: :dancingbunny:
My wish list is anything I can eat  ExCePt lima beans! :yikes: And carpet phlox. Oh, and no poision ivy please. :grinnnn:
-
oh darn...and I had all those posion ivy seeds all ready to go
I'll be working on mine some this week I hope. I can't seem to stay away from the school lately and everytime I go I'm steaming when I get home :mad2: They just drive me nuts up there :tickedoff: I get so mad and just wanna smack some of them around :gahh:
-
Thats great that you're in Suzy......more the better.!!
-
I'm so glad my seeds arrived. I hope that everyone enjoys them.
-
Bumping this.....is everyone still saving and sending to Sarah?
Mine will be leaving soon,.
-
I sent a some off a couple months ago. But I don't want any in return. Our planting times are so different here.
-
Tina, are their ANY you are looking for? Maybe some annuals? Odd sunflowers? :dunno:
-
Sunflowers attract critters that I really don't want to attract. I really try to stick to plants that the ground squirrels won't come and eat. I want them far away. I don't mind sharing a little. But those squirrels make massive holes that undermine cliffs, hillsides, houses and whole concrete foundations. We get occasional deer and a lot of birds and they are pretty much welcome. The rabbits aren't a huge problem either. But the squirrels need to be away if it can be done.
-
Very good point. Still, I wish I could find something special for you.
-
I posted the seed swap at gardenweb today. Several from past years have already jumped in. It's going to be a great swap!!! :banana02:
-
Excellent.
-
I've read this post over and over and guess I'm going to jump in with both feet. I'll be so sad in the spring if I don't.
I'm going to try to round up some packets I saved this summer. I only saved a few this year for some reason which is just plain lazy. I know I've got flowers but I can't remember if I saved any tomato seeds.
So I put a stamped, padded envelope inside a stamped, padded envelope with the seed packets.
The only thing I know right now that I don't want in return is morning glories. They will take over my yard.
-
Yay Sheri! Jump in, it's a ton of fun. :banana02:
Be sure to note no morning glories on your wish list...I pin everything to a wall and swap. Wish lists make life easier for me. :dancingbunny:
Oh, and you can send just one envelope, but make a return label and include stamps so I can stick it all to the outside and send it off.
-
k
-
A wish list huh?
Well ok here goes.
Any Lisianthus
Any Dianthus
Double Bloom Impatient
Double Bloom Begonia
Celosia
Double Bloom Petunias (not wave)
Minature Snapdragons
Columbine
Hakonechloa "Aureola" (ornamental grass)
Double Bloom Mock Orange
And that's it for me, I think.
I hope this helps.
Good luck getting everything sorted.
-
I have my seeds ready to mail this week. Gotta wish up a wish list!
-
I will be mailing mine this week Sarah.
-
My seeds were mailed today Sarah, so hopefully by the end of the week, you'll have them.
-
I'll keep an eye out. I got Wrennies yesterday.
-
I've got to get mine together. Another thing I can't make myself do.
-
My seeds are packed and stuck somewhere in the deep abyss called a storage unit... sadly I have no idea where so I will not be sending in anything this time around. It is ok though, I have nowhere to plant seeds right now anyhow.
-
I'll keep an eye out. I got Wrennies yesterday.
:dancingbunny: Yay!
-
Triss when you get a place we can send you seeds.
-
No worries Triss, i am sure that there is more then enough to share some with you.
I sent 50 packs, so you can have some of mine hun.
-
Oh when we get a place and unpack I will have about a hundred packs of seeds. LOL. I will join in on next years swap!
-
100 packs. Maybe you should be sending us seeds. :Whis:
-
Well I would have if "I" had been the one to pack my desk... ok maybe not 100 but pretty darn close.
-
Mother nature is generous isn't she? I print up about 100 seed packets every year to cover my harvest. And even though I didn't plant or havest anything like I normally do I've already used up about 60 packets.
-
We are up to 28 participants so far this year! :dancingbunny:
-
I've got mine separated and will package them up after Aubry leaves today.
-
We are up to 28 participants so far this year! :dancingbunny:
Excellent Sarah
-
I'm confused I thought she'd be sending them out about now.
-
The deadline for seeds to reach me will be January 31.
Still have the rest of the month to go through, Tammy... :grinnnn:
-
They generally go out the week of Valentine's day. :grinnnn:
-
Any seeds show up yet Sarah.......i am getting a little worried.
Hopefully this week.
-
Did I tell you that I mailed my envelope last week?
-
Excellent Sheri, glad you are in too.
-
Hey Sarah.......have the seeds shown up yet??
-
Sarah, I'm wondering about my package too.
-
I hope its arrived, it was packed full of seeds.......if not, I'm sure it will be this week.
-
Hey Penny,
Not related to this site, but the grass seeds you sent me 2008 or something, finally germinated this week.
I did them inside without the heating pad. Isnt that cool?
Bawwwwww I missed this swap........Any one do individual ones on here?
dodge
-
According to this you haven't missed it yet.

You have until January 31st to get your seeds to her dodge so you haven't missed it.
-
Thats excellent Barb....glad they sprouted for you.
Hey Sarah.............can you let me know if the envelope i sent has arrived yet?
-
New question here?
I think also I am leaning toward the Wish List Idea of trading. Is that possible here? I have most common seeds an would like to see lists of Haves an Offering.
I am thinking if I swap a 25 bag order, I will have a 25 look alikes?
Ask Sheri , she knows I have oodles. One way to get new types is to see lists?
Any one know if this is possible/
I am willing to start one, but am new an not educated here.LOL :thgoodluck-vi:
dodge
-
You can start a list dodge. Some people already have lists somewhere - I'm not sure exactly where. Just start your own.
-
I pin everything to a wall and swap. Wish lists make life easier for me. :dancingbunny:
Be sure and read through the topic dodge as barleychown has already addressed wish list and appears to welcome them when you send in your seeds.
Also if I am not mistaken, she has some folks from gardenweb participating as well so it should be a good swap.
-
I sent Sarah bc a bunch of seeds and do not want anything back. It is fun to share and hear what people got.
-
dodge, are you talking about putting a list in with your trade or posting a list on the forum of what you have and what you'd like. Not in the big seed trade but to seed on your own?
