SCREAM!
I thought I would start this topic so members could report on when the forum is dragging for them or refusing to load so that it could be documented on the board. Please, add any problems you have with the site's loading (or not) here...
This is what I have been experiencing today...
12:04 PM - Tried to reply to a topic and the site started dragging. The page would not load for me.
12:22 - "IE cannot display the web page."
12:23 - Ta Dah! Finally am able to get to the site and start posting. At least I think I can post. We will see if this posts...
Grrrrrrrrr! This is soooo frustrating! :razberry:
-
Dianna, I am not keeping track of time, but things are lagging for me. My first post in the SL took about 10 minutes to go and everything else is a lil slow but seems to be getting better.
-
I will time this to see. I already had to reboot my whole computer this morning because everything was lagging.
-
No problems for me. It zoomed right along in a very timely manner.
-
I have noticed that when it is lagging, it usually lasts 20 - 30 minutes. During that time, I am usually sitting at my desk pulling my hair out! :thpullhairout:
-
If "lagging" is what you call not being able to access the site ("Web Site Not Responding"), I'm getting the same thing... often enough to make me wonder if I keep doing something wrong! VERY frustrating! :tickedoff: ...but I'm glad it's not just ME!
-
It's been very slow for me too today, but "slow" is sometimes normal with dial-up, so I really didn't pay any attention to it. :ScratchHead: Although when I was wanting to respond to Patty's thread about the wedding everything froze up and I had to shut down and start over. :thpullhairout: No problem since I got back on!!! ;)
-
Lagging is not the correct word. If the forum fails to load, that's a different story. Because I don't know the particulars on each and every member's Internet provider, there is not point in discussing lag. There's nothing I can do about that.
At the bottom of each page is a line that says : "Page created in 0.131 seconds with 16 queries." or something similar. If that number is large, then I need to know it. So if you are experiencing what you perceive as a slow response time, check that statement at the bottom of the page and see what it says. Copy and paste it into a post and I will take it from there.
Not being able to get to the website is something completely different and I need to know the times you experience that as well, as Dianna has posted.
These problems are being worked.

Aaaaarrrrgggggghhhhhh!
What a day. The forum has been down since 11:14. I just checked at 4:50 and it was still down. Sure am glad it is back now...
The host was able to see what was happening today, so hopefully he has gotten it fixed for us. It has been a long day without my forum fix, but will be worth it if we don't keep having the intermittent problems that we were having...
Welcome back, Everyone!
-
Glad we are back up now!
-
Yay. We are back!
-
Well, I guess this explains why I couldn't get on when I was at school today! :yesssss: I really like to come here when I have some free time at school because when I'm there I can load and see some things that I can't manage to load or see when I'm at home on my dial-up. :Whis:
-
wow that was a long time down!
-
GRRRRRRRRRR! :tickedoff:
This morning I tried to get on the forum and I got "IE cannot display web page" from 7:22 a.m. to 8:57 a.m. I don't know if it came up after that because I gave up and went back to bed. :Vent:
When I finally got here on the forum at 10:45, it took 58.945 seconds with 16 queries. :mad2:
Jim, I sure hope you got my e-mail this morning and e-mailed Monte Carlo in turn...
-
:mad2: :tickedoff: :Vent:
It is so frustrating to try to get on the forum and can't for nearly two hours! Tried to get on at 10:27 and am just now getting here.... :razberry:
-
One of the things we have to deal with on "shared hosting" is we are at the mercy of the other sites that are on the same server. Ours has about 8 sites on it. If one of those sites uses up all the server resources, we get those long pauses until something frees up. Additionally if they do something that causes the server to crash, not only their site but ours crashes too. I'm being told that is what is happening. I've logged a formal complaint with our host. They are telling me that they are placing some additional limits on the guilty party in the hopes that it won't happen again. We will just have to wait and see.
-
Was that today? I've had so many issues with my own internet connection that I'm confused about what day is what. They are supposed to actually come out and fix my lines tomorrow. It is their problem not mine. Yippee!.
-
Yes, it was today, Tina. Sure is aggravating to find a minute to check the forum and can't get here. I really get upset over it. :tickedoff: It was down from 10:27 to 12:22 this morning. :mad2:
Yesterday morning it was down from 9:00 to 9:20. :Vent:
-
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!
Need I say more? :tickedoff:
-
Ah, so you couldn't load SSH yesterday either, eh Dianna? I was in the same boat as ya!
-
I can't post a new topic my computer goes spastic and I have to shut down the window and open a new one. But I can't post a new topic in the new one either. Help I have stuff to say.
-
What else is going on, Tammy? Sounds like something is going on with your computer....
Penny opened up a new Spirit Lounge for us without any problems... :dunno:
-
Nothing has changed here Tammy. No errors in the log and no one else has reported having that difficulty. I really don't know what to say about your computer.
-
it's my computer then. So I guess I won't be starting any topics. Always something with this piece of junk.
-
Try it again, Tammy. Maybe you hit the wrong button or something...
-
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
I don't know how long the forum has been down today because I made a trip out of town, but I know it has been off and on since 4:00 p.m. It is driving me crazy.... :tickedoff:
-
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
It is driving me crazy.... :tickedoff:
And all this time I thought it was Jim.
-
Did anyone else have an issue? If so please post a time that it was occurring. I'll contact our host to see what has changed that is loading down the server at the specific times.
-
Jim it was slow, more than two minutes to load a page at 1:30 my time (Pacific). I took a nap and it was cleared up by around 4, my time.
-
Thanks Tina. That helps.
If anyone else experiences slow page loads, please post here so that I can nail down exact times in order to report to our host.
-
I couldn't get on here yesterday afternoon either but I'm not sure what time it was. If it happens again, I will keep track of the time.
-
I was talking with Dianna today about 12:45 when the forum started slowing down again. I contacted our host and they found some issues that they plan to fix this evening. The forum will probably be down as maintenance will be accomplished on the server. This will start about 10PM EDT and last no longer than 2 hours. Hopefully this will fix the issue we have been having.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
-
I am glad I read this. This is right now!
-
Oh it is right now... wow
-
Has the maintenance been done? I had to go take a shower and unwind a bit...
-
I don't know, Dianna. It has seemed just a wee bit slow to change pages but that is it.
-
Maybe he decided to wait until the west coast went to bed?
-
I don't know how these things work.
-
I think our host is on the east coast with us. Looks like he would wait until the west coast got sleepy, too, before he did the maintenance... :grinnnn:
-
Argh!!! :tickedoff:
Are Jim and I the only ones that had problems getting on the forum last night? We tried from 8:00 p.m. up until the time we went to bed and could not get here... :mad2:
-
I had issues getting on this morning, i tried around 5:30, and it wouldnt let me then.
-
No, I had no problems.
-
Seems it was a DNS server issue that was eventually fixed. That's why it only affected us and not everyone. There was a problem with the disk array and it has been fixed.
-
Like we understood any of that. :ScratchHead: Well I sorta did until you started with the disk array... :grinnnn:
I had no issues last night or this morning. Oh wait, I didn't try this morning. :giggle:
Glad its working now.
-
It is 3:40 CST and the forum is running extremely slow for me. It took about 2 minutes just to get to this web page and now that I am here, the pages are changing very slow.
-
Now as soon as I posted that, it got a little better. Still slower than normal but not as bad.
And I had to come back and edit because now it is running as it should.
-
1:28 PST, slow to add my post, about 45 secs. 1:30 PST it took two full minutes to change pages. Then nothing at all for a few minutes. It wouldn't change at all. Now at 1:45PST it seems much better.
-
Good to see it wasn't just me.
-
It is not just you, Jessica. I lost a post in here due to the slowness...
Jim and I are very sorry that the forum is not stable now. I don't know what is happening with our host, but I would like to find another one that is reliable. I am thoroughly fed up with the service we are receiving... :tickedoff:
I am sure Jim will be emailing the host as soon as he receives the email I just sent him. He was in a meeting, so I couldn't call when the forum started experiencing problems...
-
You don't have to be sorry. I am not here complaining. I am just trying to help out so you know when it happens.
-
Me too
-
You and Tina did well, Jessica. That is exactly the kind of information Jim needs when he emails our host...:NewHug:
-
Is it only my computer or is it slowing down again right now?
-
Seems a bit slow to me 7:32 p.m. central time.
-
Well, I think mine was mostly my computer running an update, this time.
-
Thankfully i havent had any issues getting back on here, not since the other day.
-
Anyone else having problems tonight. First time was at 6:15 central time. The page wouldn't load. No error. Said "done" at the bottom left, but my screen never changed. Since then the board has been slow. Then about 5 minutes ago (8:15), I posted a reply in SL and it did the same thing. I just let the page sit there while I checked another site. When I came back, it loaded without my doing anything.
-
Yes, Jenn emailed me to ask if I'd had problems but I hadn't been in.
It does seem slow still.
-
barb, it was giving me the same trouble. i was trying to answer you where you ansered me in my thread and it was driving me nuts. that was when i asked tina.
-
Good. Not that its good that there's a problem, but I was afraid it was due to my nephew having his xbox plugged into my network.
-
no barb, not the xbox. it was me too. but, i meant to add, it was only in the beyond the spirits section that i was having trouble. i loaded up the posies just fine, twice, will beyond the spirits would not load.
-
I didn't notice that. I popped over to facebook while waiting for SL to load.
-
Sorry that y'all have been having trouble with the forum tonight. :( I will have Jim check it out and send an email to our host, if it hasn't already been resolved... :grinnnn:
-
Jim sent the host an e-mail. :good2: Hopefully everything will be straightened out soon, if it isn't already...:)
-
I was unable to get on the forum earlier. These are the times I tried.....11:26, 11:55, 12:17 CST. Now it is 12:29 and I am able to get around fine.
-
Me too, Jessica. I tried at Noon, 12:15, 12:30 CST and just now was able to get on.
-
I wasn't here. I was no where near a computer. It was not me.
-
Tina, Sarah Loo sent me a message telling me that Sheri did it, so you are off the hook for now... :wink5:
-
I have such power. :hobbyhorse: :Whack:
-
Good...thought I was going to get blamed.
-
Makes me glad I was on a field trip today.
-
It is 11:48 am CST and the forum pages are loading pretty slow for me.
-
I was able to call Jim and get him too working on it before it was down too long...
-
Good. I don't want to sound like a whiner. I really am not complaining. I just thought I should let you know when it is happening.
-
I emailed Dianna that I didn't do it.
-
But we know she did this time... :wink5:
-
:Crybaby: did not!
-
:laughmao: Well I know it wasn't me!
-
:Crybaby: did not!
Sheri must have disguised herself as you, then... :giggle:
-
Just posting that I had issues getting on (I couldn't) from about 11:30-midnight CST ummm on ... the saturday before father's day. Of course this is time stamped, but it would have the wrong date on it, right? 'Cause today is now tomorrow and today isn't the same day that I had the issue on...
-
:laughmao: @ Sarah
also has issues getting on at about 9:30 PST. I had no error pages of any kind. I had SSH up in a window and it was just frozen. Would not refresh or anything. I navigated away and then could not get back in in that window or any others. No error messages still.
I got into gmail chat with Dianna and she was able to post but I could not get in to read it.
-
Next time that happens try this and then take a screen shot and post it here.
In Windows, select Start > Run > cmd
This will open what looks like a DOS screen. It's got a black background. At the command line type:
tracert southernspirithunters.com
This traces the route from you to the server that the forum resides on. This is kind of interesting as it list all the hops made to get from you to the forum. If one of the servers is down on the route, you can't get to the forum but others can. It's likely that both you and Tina go through the same hops to get to the datacenter in Dallas where the server is located.
-
That is cool. It worked. I just hope I can remember it when I cannot get on the forum.
-
The forum is loading very slow for me right now. It takes a good minute.
-
It got better as soon as I posted that. Figures. :giggle:
-
Hmmm, and i couldnt get on at all, it kept telling me that the site wasnt available.
-
What time were you getting the site unavailable Penny? Some of the slowdowns that you will see from time-to-time are caused by the fact that we are on a shared server. If it continues, I will put in a trouble ticket though as someone else on our server may be sucking up all the resources.
-
It was around 11am this morning, Jim.
-
Dianna broke the spirit lounge. it won't load her post or anything past it, including the quick reply or the reply buttons at the bottom. Here's what it says at the top of the forum/page.
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/ghostjim/public_html/smf/Sources/Subs.php on line 2531
-
I was about to come here to complain too, Barb. Thank you for reporting it. Now I know that it isn't just me...:)
-
Thought I would post that this is only happening in the Spirit Lounge... :wink5:
I called Jim. We cannot do without our lounge... :giggle:
-
I locked the current one and opened a new one. See if that happens in that one. I'll try to work on it when I get home today.
-
Thank you, Jim... :kiss3-2bf4:
-
Thanks Jim. The new one seems to be working perfectly.
-
Dianna's post was the culprit. I removed the entire text from the database and we don't get the error anymore. After looking at the times, Penny did post after Dianna so I'm not really sure what caused the problem but it's fixed now.
-
ha ha I told you Dianna broke it. :giggle:
-
I think you broke it, Barb, because you posted ahead of me...
-
Hmm, have slow motion smileys when replying to topics.
They work in topic view. Using Firefox 5.0.1, would try in IE 8 if I didn't hate it so much.
-
I use Firefox as well and don't have that issue. Using XP Pro here at work and Windows 7 at home. What virus program are you using?
-
Sorry, should have started a new topic. Was watching a movie and replied to this.
Having problems when replying to topics in general, scrolling is choppy and smileys aren't loading fast, they evetually load, but very slow. Didn't do this previous version of Firefox I had. May be newer versions will resolve this issue, don't think its SMF.
