Title: ouija boards
Post by: bayou girl on Dec 26, 2009, 11:49:40 PM
so, i'm just curious about opinions...

i've never had one.  i had a great aunt who was very spiritual and "in tune" who said that they are like opening the door to a stranger in a big city.  you  might get someone nice on the other side, you might not.  you also might be trying to let someone nice in when someone not so nice bullies their way past.  i have liked, and believed, that analogy, so never let my kids have them either.  what do you think?

We used to have one when we were kids.  One made by Parker Brothers. :giggle:  I don't think I believe in them.  Not the Parker Brothers ones anyways.

When I would ask to play ouija when I had rfriends over my mother would always say it is not a game. She believed. To me it was a fun way to spook my friends. It was just a game.

I am afraid of them. They are used as a tool that opens a portal to the other side. Like your aunt told you, you never know what you might reach. If you really want to use the board, I would suggest having someone that has experience with it to help keep you safe...

Here (http://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/index.php/topic,132.0.html) is a topic you might find interesting. And here (http://www.southernspirithunters.com/smf/index.php/topic,31.msg130.html#msg130) is another...

I played with a couple of friends once when I was a kid. The little thingy moved around when we asked it questions, though I know I wasn't pushing it, I was never sure that someone else wasn't. Nothing happened though that would have indicated that we let any kind of spirit through.. good or bad.

That aside, I don't remember the name of the book (or it might have been a movie) that was supposed to be based on a true story where this group on vacation found a ouija board carved into the table in the house they rented, and using a glass, decided to try it out. When they did, all kinds of bad things started happening and didn't stop when the quit using it. Like they opened some sort of portal or something.  I've not ever had any desire to even look at one since then.

If you remember the name of the movie, I would be interested in knowing what it is. I would like to watch it...

I had one that my Grandmother gave me one christmas along time ago, I have played with until alot of doors kept on slamming, blinds moving with nothing to make them move, seeing shadows move out of the corner of my eyes, things being misplaced seconds after setting them down, and after asking who i am talking to to and it spells out satan... that was enough for me. It is a gateway for things waiting on the other side.

Be sure and take a look at the first link that Dianna posted as we have had a previous discussion on Ouija Boards.  In fact I don't lock the old topics because when folks come along that haven't been here before they can still post in them if they have a comment.  Try the search function.  It actually works.

Now back on topic - as I previously posted, I haven't had any experience with one except growing up and I found it boring, however I don't think I would want one in the house now.

I am going to give a little longer explanation to why I don't like them.  For those who watch Paranormal State, you have probably seen an episode where they went to an old insane asylum and brought a psychic with them.  I believe it was Chip Coffey.  Anyway, Chip was able to make contact with some spirits upon arriving at the location, and was told by them that many spirits were being held there against their will by a powerful demon.

Now, back to the topic of Ouija Boards - I used one about 20 plus years ago.  I believe they work - sort of.  Initially, we would be speaking with a spirit of one who had lived, but usually, it didn't take long before we got something really nasty.  The whole energy on the board would noticeably change.  Instead of the smooth, flowing movement, the pointer would start moving in sharp/jerky/angry and erratic movements, sometimes almost feeling like the pointer was going to fly off the board.  At that point, if you asked the same questions you had asked the original spirit you were talking to, you would get different answers.  In the end, if we confronted this new entity and told it we knew we were not speaking to the same spirit, it would reveal itself through the board.  On a few occasions, when we would call it out, it would be begin to spell it's name S-A-T-A-...  You get the point, I am sure.

Watching paranormal state, and the way Chip Coffey was trying to psychically communicate in that one episode, I realized it was very much the same, except he didn't have a Ouija board.  His communication with the trapped spirits kept getting interrupted by the Demon who was holding the spirits there against their will.

I do believe you will attract spirits and demons to you, if you begin to play with a board, and they may not want to leave you after you decide you don't want to talk to them anymore.  I have heard that burning the board may be a way to close the portal, though I am not certain that this will be the end of your problems.  Some things don't have to come through any doorway because they are already here.

A girl I went to highschool with was rumored to have gone crazy.  The story was that she had started using a Ouija board with some friends, and had become fascinated with it.  So much so that she began to use it by herself.  They said an old man started appearing to her in her room at night, and she became haunted to the point that she lost her mind.  I think there was also some reference to possession.  I don't know if she ever recovered.  I never heard further.

I can tell you for certain that after using it in my aunt's house, with my cousins, that the house became haunted.  I had spent many weekends there and never noticed any haunting activity before, but after we used the board, you could hear footsteps during the day and night when no one else was there, and terrible noises in the middle of the night like loud bangs and such.  You would be woken up with the awful feeling that something EVIL was in the room with you, then hear more steps or other scary sounds.  My cousins also began to notice this after we used the board.

I would say that 90% of the time, we were speaking with a dark entity or demon, and the other 10%, we believed we were speaking with the spirit of one who lived.  That being said, I am of the opinion that if you use the Ouija board, you have to assume that you will be speaking to demons and dark entities, and maybe on a rare occasion, speak with a true spirit of one who once lived.  You may end up haunted.  You may also put your family members or loved ones in your home in danger of being haunted and tormented as well.

With what I now know, I would never do it again, for amusements sake.  The side effects were too terrible and the goal of communicating with spirits of people who had once lived was only barely met.

I don't believe it was Witchboard. The movie I'm talking about is older than that. Though, you can atually watch Witchboard online. I'll see if I can find a reference to the one I'm talking about. The board was carved into the dining table.

I've been hunting on the 'net for some reference to that move, to no avail.

Some really good information Shaman.  I have heard and read things like what you describe quite often and that is definitely a good reason to not participate in something like that.  I wouldn't mess with a Ouija Board even though I don't have any experience with it.

We were brought up to believe that ouija boards, astrology, fortune telling and even talking about any of it is a sin.  I'm not sure if it's Church of God doctrine or small town thinking or a combination of both.  It's interesting to me since my mother also told us that one of her brothers was somehow possessed and that another brother refused to sleep in the same room with him because he said "something" walked around the bed all night long.  This possessed brother was a drug addict though because he was asthmatic and back during the day people with breathing problems were given morphine by the doctor - how could you not get addicted.

Anyway, I always believed the part about it all being a sin so I never played with a board.  I've known people who've had them but I never heard any stories.

I think ouiji boards are the first recording type device like the digital recorders to actually speak with spirits of that time period. But, I would not own a ouiji board...actually using my engery to move the pointer to spell out words kinda gives me the creeps, plus thats just another way they can posses ya or attach themselves to you and follow you home.  :SmileyNailbiting:
