Title: Bad Weather Coming...
Post by: landofoz on Apr 09, 2008, 01:22:03 PM
All of those who are in the way of this storm system getting ready to fire up today and last through Friday, keep your eyes out on the weather and be sure to check in so we know that everyone is okay!

The weather channel is saying that this is a special circumstance and will make for tremendously strong weather - strong storms and tornados.  Pretty much from texas up to Kansas and then over to Alabama-ish.  Stay safe!!

I know that we've got some showers and thunderstorms predicted again for tonight,   :SmileyFit:  but I haven't heard how severe they are going to be for our area.

They said this morning on the news that the bad weather would stretch from Texas to Illinois.  Texas got it last night so we will look to hear from a few members today.  It appears that we are going to have to keep and "eye" on the weather this year!

It's already here as far as the rain goes.  It started last night and hasn't let up since, so my yard is flooded again.  :SmileyFit:   The city came out late last night and set up the pump across the street so there's no problem with the creek. ;)  The actual storms and wind are supposed to hit later today and tonight,  :SmileyFear:  so we'll haave to wait and see what happens.  :ScratchHead:

Tuesday night/Wed. morning around 2 am hard thunder and rain as well as hail and a few twisters. Wed. night /Thursday morning at 3:15 80 miles an hour winds as long with rain going sideways. Several Tornadoes. I saw a lot of downed trees and roofs missing. An airport west of us was pretty well blown away. Breckenridge about 80 miles west claimed to have a  large tornado on the ground for a long time. North Dallas and parts of Fort Worth were hit real bad a lot of people out of power at this hour. I had a lot of wind and rain here no damage to me at all. I have my pitcher plants on J hooks in my yard I just knew they were gone but everyone of them still hanging also my porch did not get any damage to any of the plants. All my friends in the area did not get any damage just wind and rain. Hope people in KS.,ARk. Il. and all points it hit came out as well as I did. A man in Johnson co. lost one arm when his travel trailer went flipping around ( no travel trailer for me with winds that high thank you) :nutz: to the best of my knowledge there was no fatalities.

Jimmy, I was really worried about you.  I talked to my friend in Dallas and she said they were getting quite a nasty storm with lots of rain and strong winds,   :SmileyFear:   but she didn't know if they had any hail.   She lives in an large apartment building on the 11th floor so sometimes it's hard to tell what's going on outside.  I talked to her twice today and she said they had a lot of damage in Dallas, but not in the area where she lives.

I always get home too late to catch the news, but it seems like we missed the bullet around here.  I know there is a lot of flooding, and I had to take a different road home tonight, so I didn't get home until after 11:30.   :SmileyFit:  It's been a really long day for me, and I'm beat.  ;)

Thank you, Tonya...  :NewHug:

I have thought about calling, but am so worried I will wake up the baby and, knowing my luck, it will be after a night that she didn't get any rest at all... :)

Sure hope all of our friends and members "weathered" the storm system safely...

Ksgardner aka Jody should be fine.  All KS has been getting is a LOT of wind and plenty of rain with the run-of-the-mill thunderstorms.  Seems that all the severe weather has stayed south and east of Kansas.

The "all knowing" weather bureau went around and now confirmed we had F-0 and F-1 tornadoes people said they saw them but the weather bureau said they had to verify them. Most in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas and Illinois have been through or seen many tornadoes up close and too personal don't need some bureaucrat telling us what we already know. News has said only trained weather spotters know what to look for I have been through 3 my self and seen at least 100 more in my life. But enough ranting they now claim we may have up to 8 tornadoes in the area.
My ex said they were getting snow in Nebraska when she called to see if I was OK.

JV, western Ks got 5.5 inches of snow yesterday and the radar looked like Neb. and Colo. got a lot too.

They predicted snow showers for us too, but, thankfully,  :SmileyFit:  that must have missed us too!    :yesssss:

Jimmy, I talked to my friend in Dallas this morning and she said they were supposed to get some severe storms today.   :SmileyFear:  Then when I spoke to her this evening she said all they had so far was a little rain, so I don't know if they got anything worse after I talked to her.     I hope not!

I'm officially checking in, nothing too bad happening here.

Last Sunday (the 25th) we had a pretty good scare.  After finishing a movie, Adam turned on the weather channel and they were freaking out about a storm approaching my town.  So we watched the weather for an hour and then the tornado sirens went off.  Thankfully, our elderly neighbors had a storm shelter put in a few years ago and are more than happy to share with us.  So we woke up the girls and went over there before the heavy rain hit.  The storm chaser on the radio was on the verge of hysteria (KS newbie) because of the strong winds -- during the hour long storm they were running right around 70 and gusting up to 94 -- and torrential rain.  He starts relaying his position, which is about a mile from my house, and starts shrieking about a wall cloud descending and another storm chaser report of a tornado in the same area.  Naturally, it all is headed right for us.  But we got no tornado and not even wind damage.  I was a little annoyed we didn't get a tornado because I had a lot of laundry that I didn't want to fold but on the positive side, my garden didn't have a single plant broken or even disturbed by the winds/rain.  WOOHOO!

Sarah, I'm glad to hear that everyone is okay in your neck of the woods.  We had some pretty bad weather last night too and it knocked our power out.  We had some strong winds, large hail and lots of rain.

I'm glad there was no damage & you're all OK, but it's too bad about the laundry. :SmileyFit:  I guess you'll have to learn how not to secure the clothespins to the line so well! :giggle: At least they got a "free rinse". so you could put off the folding for another day! :wink5:  (I'm assuming your laundry was on the line. Mine is, & I've decided that they're safe there, till tomorrow... again.) :Whis:

I wish your weather would straighten out, Patti.  I'd hate to see a repeat of last year! :mad2:

Although they had all dried out on the line, I had brought them in and run them for about 10 minutes in the dryer to kill off bugs.  (I once brought in laundry and started folding it when a huge yellow jacket came out of a pant leg and stung my neck 4 times and my arms repeatedly!!)  And there was another clean load sitting in front of the dryer in a laundry basket.

Well, it looks like we are in for more today.  Every news/weather source is absolutely going nuts over the weather.  It's about to start too -- looks like a nice thick supercell is headed out direction.  We've have 36 mph gusting to 50mph winds since yesterday afternoon - maybe the t-storm will calm the winds down a bit.  Every tornado and thunderstorm watch possible has been issued and it looks like they might be right.  Maybe I should do some laundry so I can hope to get out of folding it!   :giggle:

We're supposed to drive up to Salina (an hour away) at 4:00 because my brother's work is doing tours (light bulb plant, Phillips).  Prime bad-time for our weather is 4-10pm, so maybe we will not be going.   :badmood:

Well, I should go - have a naked 4 yr old dancing around the living room singing, "Ready for my bath, Momma.  Gotta get me in the bath, Momma.  etc, etc, etc"  I wonder what she could possibly want??  Surely not a bath... :laughmao:
