News - Spirit Lounge - New Board for Registered Users
« on: Jan 10, 2007, 09:25:49 PM »
On some of the other sites that Dianna frequents they have an area where folks that are on-line at the same time can kind-of chat back and forth. We thought it was a good idea and as a result the Spirit Lounge was born.

This is the new board name and inside you will see a topic titled "Spirit Lounge X" where X is a number starting with "1". The first topic would be "Spirit Lounge 1".  That topic is for you to post in when you have noticed that someone else is on the forum at the same time you are and you want to "chat".  When the topic reaches 100 post, a moderator or member should close that topic and open another using the same title but incrementing the number. So the new chit chat topic would be "Spirit Lounge 2" and so on.

There should only be one topic titled Spirit Lounge open at any given time.  Please don't start other topics in this board as they will be moved.

Let's see how this works and feel free to let myself or Dianna or Bonnie know if you have suggestions on how to make this simpler or more enjoyable.

Just a quick note here, while you are in the Spirit Lounge, you will need to refresh in order to see what the other person has posted. Of course if you post, then they do, while you are posting again, they would need to refresh to see your answer to what they posted. Does that make sense?? ::)

Update:  effective 4/11/07 the Spirit Lounge board is no longer a child board.  It will be on the main index.  All others remain the same.

Effective yesterday, post in the Spirit Lounge do not increase your post count.  I set things that way because in an effort to save on disk space periodically I delete the old SLs.  When I do that, you post count goes down.  By making the SL post not count, that also means that the post count will not go down when I delete the old SLs.  At least that's the theory.  We'll see the next time I do some housekeeping.

That works for me.  I hope it helps in the housekeeping and disk space usage.

This is a very exciting topic, kind of like a place to do a daily blog?  Do we want comments here or just a place for people to go to read so that we can keep up with each other?

We are aiming for only one or two posts per day, per person in the galley. When you do your daily entry, feel free to quote and reply to other's posts at the same time.

Effective tonight, your post count will increase when you post in the Spirit Lounge.  If you remember I set it so it wouldn't because when it doesn't count, then when I delete them you post count doesn't go down.  That worked great for the SL but when I deleted the old birthday topics, they went down again.  So tonight I installed a mod that allows me to delete any post or topic and it doesn't decrease your post count.

We don't hand out any awards for post so it really doesn't matter but I didn't like seeing the individual post count going down when I was doing the housekeeping!  :waiting:

I do not even look at my post counts, so I never saw if they went up or down.

I don't think any of our members care about the post count.  I had even thought about making it so it couldn't be seen.  The main reason I didn't is just the normal nature of forums.  So it will stay but the only thing it does is change you post based group.  On some forums there may be added features that you can't see till you are a specific group.  Currently we don't have any thing like that except for the 20 post requirement to move to the Newbie group.

How many posts to move from Jr. to Full Member? Not that it really matters, just curious.
