Pattern ID, please!
« on: Oct 14, 2007, 11:27:12 PM »
This is a pattern that my mammaw used to use for her quilts, and I was wondering if anyone has ever seen it or knows the name? She passed away in 89(I think) and my mom gave me her sewing basket where I found this a few years ago. I'd love to make a quilt with her pattern. Any ideas??

A few pieces that she had already sewed together

and a single piece

I have no idea of most quilt names, Tonya. But that would make an awesome quilt. And I would love to leave a wavy edge all around it too. No border.

That's what I was thinking Tina- I love the "scalloped" look. I think I am going to try to get some neat looking material and make small ones for the girls, maybe for Christmas or their birthdays.

It is a 1930's quilt pattern called Applecore.
see

Yup, it's an applecore.  I've been wanting to make one of those for years now!  I saw one made out of flannel, with the edges frayed (if you know what I mean) and it looked so neat.  I'm almost disappointed that Wrennie beat me to it though!

Just would like to mention: It's not that easy to do because you have to pin each and every curve together before you sew and then you have to make sure that they are sewn together straight (not crooked).  Sewing curves together like that are a pain because you have to sew a concave shape into a convex shape.  But they look fabulous.  Keep us updated, Tonya!

What an awesome quilt!  Love the pattern too but it sure does look hard.

Well, I got a few pieces sewn together.....not too bad. I do have a bit of offset, but I think I will be able to fix that once I add more pieces. Here is a pic of what I have right now :grinnnn:

Getting a little more diffucult as the pieces go together, but I am getting the hang of it!! What I have done now-

Not sure I like these materials together. One has a TINY bit of stretch to it and the other one kinda wants to unravel. It'll work for a starter piece, tho!!

Looks good Tonya.  The pieces are laying together very nicely.

How big are these 'apple cores', Tonya? It is hard to tell scale in your pictures.

Tina they are....ummm....where is my tape measure? They are 6 inches long and 4 inches in the narrowest point of the short side. Does that make sense?? Here is my hand for scale.
