Help - Password Reminders
« on: Oct 20, 2007, 12:38:40 AM »
There are 2 ways to get into the board if you forget your password.  The easiest way is to go to your profile at some point before you forget it;

Then click Account Related Settings on the left menu

Near the bottom of the page you will see the section for your Secret Question that looks like this:

Fill in a question and answer and click the button.

Now if you forget your password, you can check the box on the password reminder screen and not have to wait for an email verification.

If you haven't filled in a secret question, do NOT check the box.  There is no question to ask you.  Instead, put your email address in the space where it says "Username/Email" and a link will be emailed to you.  Click on the link and you will be able to set a new password.

If you have any questions about how this works, don't hesitate to ask.

I think I know why that didn't work for me before.  When I deleted all my cookies did it mess with that too?

The cookie is the way the forum knows you.  If you have selected to stay logged in "Forever", the cookie is what allows that to happen.  Without it you would have to log in every time you visit the forum.

Deleting the cookie doesn't affect the password reminder because you enter your email address in order for the board to email you the link.

I tried to access the board from work and can't remember my password.  To do what you instructed it says that I have to enter my current password.

To set your secret question you will have to be already logged in to access your profile.  Stands to reason that you would have to do this before you forget your password or try to log in from somewhere that your cookie is not already stored.

You would use the second option; entering the email address that you used to register with so that the link can be emailed to you.
