'Twas the Day After Christmas
« on: Dec 26, 2007, 04:19:20 AM »
I just received this and thought it was kinda funny!  :wink5:

'Twas the Day After Christmas

'Twas the day after Christmas, and all through the house,
Every creature was sleeping, even the mouse.
The toys were all broken, their batteries dead,
Santa passed out with some ice on his head.

Wrapping and ribbons covered the floor,
while upstairs the family continued to snore.
And I in my T-shirt, new Reeboks and jeans,
Went into the kitchen and started to clean.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the sink to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the curtains and threw up the sash.

When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a little white truck with an oversize mirror.
The driver was smiling, so lively and grand,
The patch on his jacket said U.S. POST-MAN.

With a handful of bills, he grinned like a fox,
Then quickly stuffed them into our box.
Bill after bill and still they all came,
Whistling and counting he called them by name.

Now Dillard’s, now Broadway, now Penny’s and Sears,
Here’s Macy’s and Target and Mervyn’s….all here.
To the top of your limit, every store, every mall,
Now chargeaway, chargeaway, chargeaway all!!

He chuckled and whistled as he finished his work,
He filled up the box, then turned with a jerk.
He sprang to his truck and he drove down the road,
Driving much faster with just half of a load.

Then I heard him exclaim with great holiday cheer,
“ENJOY WHAT YOU GOT….YOU'LL BE PAYING ALL YEAR!!”

Unfortunately, it's also a little sad, but true for a lot of people these days!  :(

It is actually very clever. And sad. I have no credit cards. I owe no-one for anything. I do get monthly bills though for utilities and such. It is a freedom like no other.
Friends are like bras, close to your heart and all about support

Way to go, Tina!!! :yesssss:  It sounds like you and I are cut from the same mold.  I don't believe in credit cards, and I don't have any either.  :smileyNo:  Actually, the way I've always felt was - if I don't have the money to pay for it then it's probably something I really don't need.  :wink5: You're right on this one, the freedom is AWESOME!!!   :banana02:

Us as well.  No CC debt here, learned that lesson the hard way when I was younger and will not go back to it.

We are all under the same stars, therefore we are never far apart.

Well, that happened to me too, Triss!  We didn't have credit cards back then, but you could open up an account at the store.  I bought a sewing machine at Sears and made the designated payments on time every month and I didn't buy anything else, just kept paying on it.  Geesh, after about two years I discovered I owed almost as much as the machine cost in the first place.  :yikes: Evidently, the interest rate was rather high and they were compounding the interest daily so very little of what I was paying went to pay off what I owed.  :mad2:  As soon as I found this out, I immediately went down to the store and paid off the whole balance that day.  :yesssss:  I only bought what I felt I could afford so I didn't get in trouble, but I still got ripped off in the process.   :Vent:

Actually, some years after that Sears got in a lot of trouble from the government for doing this and had to pay a huge fine, so the government cashed in on it, but all of the customers were still out a lot of money.  :thpullhairout:  Anyway, I feel it was money well spent since I learned a big lesson early about buying on credit, so I never messed with credit cards.   :smileyNo:
