Topic: My PM thingy is broken...

When I get a new PM the little window pops up and tells me " you have a new PM, do you want to open it in a new window" I click OK and it doesn't open in a new window. My computer sometimes closes a window when i hit refresh or post, in various sites, so maybe its something in my machine?

Make sure you are allowing popups from Southern Spirit Hunters.  Is this happening in IE or FireFox?  Have you recently updated either?  Does it just shut down the window without any error?

This sounds like a machine problem.  How old is the computer?  Memory can cause strange things to happen as well as power supplies.

I would need some additional information in order to troubleshoot the problem.  Nothing wrong on this end as far as I can tell.

OK, try shutting down all your windows except one and see if you can receive a PM.  I know most of use take advantage of the windowing capability of windows but that takes memory.  If there is a memory problem you may be able to see where the threshold is, 2 windows, 3, etc.

Memory problems are hard to isolate unless you have a SIMM or DIMM to swap out and see what happens.  It's worse than an intermittent problem in a car.

Yup. I received another pm. No line that says 'pop up blocker' so I have pop ups ok from ssh. I got the little 'do you want to open it in a new window ?' clicked yes again and still had to open it myself.

All your settings are correct here.  I did notice that you have NEVER set for the board to send you emails when someone PMs you.  Back when we were on the limited Xsorbit server, we recommended that because we couldn't tell when emails bounce.  On this server we can see all that so you could change that to ALWAYS and you would receive an email everytime someone PMs you as well.  Just gotta remember not to reply to those emails because they will come to me.

Have you ever used FireFox?  It would be interesting to see if the same thing happened there.  It could be a screwy setting in IE.

I been having the same problem as Wrennie, an i have firefox, an i do get the emails that notify me of a message.  but when i click yes, i have to go an open it myself,, an my laptop is just a few months old.  maybe 6 at the most.  with a ton of memory an sometimes on here i do have more than one window open,, but when i recieved my last one this was the only site i was on,, an i still had to open manually.

I have the latest version of firefox btw.

Check your settings on your popup blocker.  Make sure you are allowing popups from www.southernspirithunters.com. 

What operating system are you using?

I use FireFox and it works fine for me.  Dianna uses IE and it works fine for her. 

Most of the time when this happens, it's your popup blocker that needs to be set correctly.
