Aunt Bonnie's Cardinal
« on: May 07, 2008, 10:21:30 PM »
While down at Aunt Bonnie's a couple of weeks ago she pointed out that a Northern Cardinal had nested in one of the camellia bushes beside her steps.  She had 3 eggs there.

It took several times but I did finally get a few shots of the female cardinal.

This past weekend I expected to see the babies but something had run the female off and the eggs had gone bad.

Oh geesh, Jim, that is not good news!   :Crybaby2:  Sure wish we could have seen the babies!  ;)

Aunt Bonnie had spotted feathers, but no momma bird. She was really upset about it... :crying:

DARN! :SmileyFit: How sad is that? :Crybaby2:  You're so lucky to have pretty birds like that around there.  (We don't have anything more impressive than hummers here.)

When life gives you lemons, you make lemonaid, right?
 If I were Bonnie, I'd take that little nest outta the bush & varnish those eggs (so they dont start stinking), then glue gun them to the inside of the nest (& glue any parts of the nest that might fall apart).  Then glue gun a clip or a clothespin onto the bottom of it so it'll hang on a Christmas tree.  **A bird nest in a Christmas tree is said to bring good luck! :grinnnn:

What a beautiful bird.  I am sorry to hear that the babies did not make it.

We are all under the same stars, therefore we are never far apart.

I know we are, Patty, and I thank God every time I see one. :yesssss:  I think there is just something magical about a Cardinal.  ;)  Actually, we're even more fortunate that they will stay around in the wintertime because I don't think there is anything more beautiful than seeing some of the Cardinals out in the yard in the snow.  :banana02:
