Why Blue Paint
« on: Jul 24, 2008, 08:33:10 PM »
Question, in an earlier post Glamgirl mention the blue paint that was common on some home and even churches used to keep out evil spirits.  Growing up in th South I run across this a number of times, there used to be an African American Church on HWY 52 between St, Stephen and Kingstree that had all the door facing and window trim painted in that blue color, not sure if it still there since Hwy was straightend.  Anyway does anyone know why that particular shade of blue???

I recently did some research on the Southern "bottle tree", turns out it is also an African tradition used to lure evil spirits into the bottle where they would remain trapped.  We sell those at a nursery in town as "yard art".

Great post.  I may start painting with some blue myself.
