Stock flowers...and something else...
« on: Mar 29, 2007, 11:40:33 AM »
Someone at our church got married last Saturday & left the big flower arrangements behind "for anyone who might want them"
HA! Ask me twice!!

There were about 11 different kinds of flowers/greens in the arrangement, & I took it apart ...cuz it looked like a funeral spray to me, which didn't seem very cheery!

A gal from my Garden Club said that the white one is called "Stock", but she didn't know what the pink one is called.

Close-up. I've seen this somewhere before, but can't think of the name.

Not that it's important to know... I've just got this thing about flower names!

Maybe the white is a white stock and the pink is a pink stock?  :D

No, silly girl!

The white stock flowers are growing on a STALK, while the pink flowers are in bunches, like little nosegays... Not the same flower at all.

Anyway, I saw them at Walmart this morning. (Now there's a reliable resource for accurate information, if there ever was one!) The tags on all of them said Kalanchoe blossfeldiana.

I've always thought that Kalanchoe is a succulent!
(Not the first time I've seen different plants with the same name.)

Well, if you are going to start running over me for trying to help you, I guess I shouldn't tell you that I really think their plants were mis-labeled. I think I have that Kalanchoe blossfeldiana and it sure doesn't look anything like that plant....

Have you tried googling it to compare?

I might post a picture of mine tomorrow to show you the difference. But, then again...I might not!

Yup, shore 'nuf did... Take a look!. I don't trust Walmart's plant department any more than.... well, never mind. But I did think that Kalanchoe was a succulent, so I have no doubt that yours looks WORLDS different than these!

Post a pic anyway... we may as well ALL be thoroughly confused!

Now those look like pink STOCK flowers, to me! (notice the long leaves.) The leaves on my whatevers are dark green & round.

Nice try though! (They matched something!)

Back on topic....

Patty, the blooms on your plant, to me, just do not look Kalanchoe-ish. The ones on your plant have sort of like a crepe paper look... (now how's that for proper English!  ;D)

Never fear, we will find out what it is eventually. I just hope it is this year and not the next... :D

(BTW, the blooms on my plants look like the pics in the link you put up...)

Could it be a turtlehead plant?  I know they come in pink or white.  Here is a link to a page for them....http://www.missouriplants.com/Whiteopp/Chelone_glabra_page.html

Definately scratching my head over this one :ScratchHead:
