Bread baking club ~ recipe #3
« on: Oct 01, 2008, 06:37:01 PM »
Garlic parmesan bread

1 package yeast
2 1/2 tbsp. dry milk
2/3 cup parmesan cheese
2 1/3 cups bread flour
2 tsp. garlic powder
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. honey
2 1/2 tbsp. olive oil
1 cup warm water

Add dry milk, honey, and yeast to warm water. Let sit until frothy,
roughly 10 minutes. Next add olive oil, salt, garlic powder, and cheese.
Mix well. Then mix in flour, kneading until smooth, roughly 10 minutes.
Place in an oiled bowl and let rise until doubled. Punch down, divide into
two, and gently shape into rounds. Place on a well greased cookie sheet,
or liberally sprinkle fine cornmeal onto cookie sheet instead of greasing.

Let rise again, then bake in a 350* oven until done, roughly 20 to 30 minutes.

I had to smile at this one cuz I just adapted the first bread recipe to make a Parmesan garlic bread.  It was awesome!  I am going to try this one tomorrow cuz I have all of the ingredients here now.

I have a loaf rising right now, and it smells so darn good!

This will be my 5th or 6th time making it, and I have never been disappointed.

It looks yummy.  Can't wait to try it.  I'll have to add olive oil to my list of things to get at the store.

My bread dough is rising now.  I just love the smell of it, the garlic and cheese filled the kitchen.

Charlie helped me out today by pouring in the pre-measured cups of ingredients into the mixer.  His words after it was all mixed, "It is beautiful."  :grinnnn:

And it was beautiful.  The kids gobbled it down.  I did not even get a picture but the consistency of the loaves were perfect.  Next time I will have to do a double batch cuz this left them asking for more.

Oh I bet that was good Sarah.   Yours looks so pretty.  I did not slice the tops of mine but will next time.

I have the olive oil today.  I won't make the bread today because I am making recipe 2 as we speak.  But tomorrow is another story.  I'm loving this bread baking club.  I'm so glad you were willing to do this for us.  Thank you Barleychown.

Well the bread is doing it's second rise.  I have to say this bread is much denser than any other that I've ever done and I couldn't get the yeast to foam until I added some flour to the yeast mixture.  I don't seem to mix dry milk at all well.  So I'll be very interested to see how this one turns out.  It is rising so I'm assuming everything is good.

In a word awful.  I'm sure it had to do with the yeast.  Although I use the same bag of yeast for all of the recipies and it works fine in the others.  Ah well it wouldn't be an adventure if there weren't a few wrong turns along the way.

Since my 14 year old daughter has taken to baking this looks like a pretty good one for her to try.
