What will you be growing in your garden this year? Anything new planned? Planning a bigger garden?

Same stuff for me this year...more of some, less of others. I plan on Tomatoes, Peppers(hot and sweet), cukes, zukes, squash, corn, beans, butter beans, peas, radishes, broccoli, eggplant, tomatillos, potatoes, okra, lettuce, carrots...... I think that's all, but I'm not sure. It's a big area and I love to eat, so I may have to add to that list. :giggle:

I think I'm going to downsize.  We don't plant a lot because we don't eat at home much.  In my previous life we planted a gigantic garden and I canned and canned and canned.  I fixed 3 meals a day usually and on weekends too.  Now I don't can at all so I have been planting enough to eat with some to give away.  This year I think I will plant enough to eat only.

Tomatoes
Blue Lake Beans
cucumbers
radishes
squash
potatoes

If you guy will tell me when and how to plant carrots I'll try that too.

Got strawberries out there too.

Sheri- I planted my carrots in early spring(March comes to mind, but I will have to find my journal from last year) as soon as the ground was consistently warm. You have to dig(or till) deep for them- a good 12-18 inches- so that the ground is good and loose. I'm sure there is something else that someone can tell you, but that is how I did it and mine were good!

Tonya, do you plant carrots from seeds in the same garden where you plant your other stuff?  How long until they're ready?

Sheri, you can start pulling and using carrots as soon as they are big enough. I just pull what I want to use, and leave the rest to continue growing.

We will have more of the same, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, peppers, corn, peas, watermelon, cantaloupe, okra (for Aunt Bonnie), and I'm going to try potatoes again this year.

We had way too much corn last year so I may cut down some on that.  Oh yeah, I'll plant some sunflowers for the birds.

Corn....thats one i am not sure on this year, i really could use the space for somthing else, and the crows wouldbt leave it alone, so i need to think on that one.

Veggies, herbs, sunflowers, cukes that climb the trellis, sugar baby melons that climb with them, garlic in now, and of course weeds. :waiting:

Spinach, Lettuce, Beans, Tomatoes, Peppers, Zucchini, Cucumbers, Potatoes, Cabbage, Brussels Sprouts, Leeks, Pumpkins, Carrots, Turnips, Radish and Swiss Chard.
And there is also Rhubarb, Asparagus, and Strawberries planted. The Herb garden has Tarragon, Thyme, Mint, Oregano and I'll add some Basil and Parsley.
I'm sure there will be plenty of weeds too! :)

I plant weeds too.  Funny thing is I never remember buying the seeds or sowing the plants.  I'm pretty good at it too because they fluorish when nothing else does.

I just got the parks catalog and have to include blueberries in my list for this year.  Although to do it I have to get started on getting the acid fertilizer.  It takes 6 months for it to increase the acid in the soil i think.  Hope I have that right.  Or I could go see if my pine tree has dropped a load of needles I can use.  That would be cheaper.  Easier to figure the ratio on too.

Putting in a new section for cool crops in my small yard. Lettuces and such. More area for the weeds to challenge me.  :viking:  Guessing they think this is their turf, so they have the homefield advantage. Didn't really do too bad last summer with the layer of compost mulch on top.  :duel:

Wal-mart had sweet and red onion slips for 1.50 per bag.  You know I had to snag them.  So now I have enough for the entire growing season I think.  There are lots in there at least.  I'm excited.  They had seed potatoes too but I don't have my box built yet so I decided to wait on that this year.

I haven't seen any blueberry plants out yet.  Maybe that's a good thing because I didn't get a patch of ground amended for them yet.  Maybe next year.

Bonnie, I'm going to plant cherry tomatoes in my window boxes this year.  The plants are very small but put out great tomatoes.
