I think I have 17 different varities of peppers going into my garden, ranging from sweet to mild jalapeno.  I also have 32 differenty varities of tomatoes going in -- I think I may be insane to try to cram all them in but at least I'll get an A for effort.  Also will be growing basil, parsley, cukes, zukes, beans, and whatever else catches my eye between now and then.

I just added two blueberry bushes and 2 dwarf pear trees to my garden.  Woohoo.  They are perfect.  The pears are already over 6 feet tall so who knows it may not be to many years before I have a harvest.

tomorrow I'm putting out my cabbage plants and maybe some radishes.  I'm going to start my tomato and pepper seeds in peat pots.  I think I'll start the peppers too TK.  Our weather is great!

This would be a good time for radishes.  I may have to do some of those too if my foot improves.

Good luck with your veggie garden.

Tammy, have you been able to do anything with your gardens since your foot hurts?  Have you been able to work inside?

If anyone needs any radish seeds- I have plenty to share. A friend gave me about 5 packets(not sure how old the packets are or if the seeds are any good, but I will share)Just send me a Pm and I will get them right out! I'm working on my promptness of getting things in the mail- I have been really slack about it and I appologize to anyone who has had to wait on me.

I actually managed to pull a few weeds outside.  That was the end of that lol.  Inside I have transplanted all the parsley and basil into individual pots.  And they are all doing well so far.  Well the purple ruffled basil isn't looking great but the rest are.

I Hope to plant bell peppers this week sometime.  I just get tired.  My right leg is not used to supporting most of my body weight.

I did go out and get the mail this morning and guess what...all the trees have new growth on them.  Even the blueberries have little nodules where the new growth is starting.  I'm thrilled.  Now I have to get out there with the hollytone fertilizer for the blueberries.

I planted 57 peppers.  Some are the boldog, some are gypsy, and some are seeds from a pepper that I got from the store.  I do plan on sharing which is why I planted so many.

Then I planted the Costoluto Genovese I think I planted 19.  And then I planted 12 of the blue lake green beans.  All the space beneath the shop light is taken.  So I can't start anything else.

Next year the plan is to have shelves infront of the bay window so I can have a bunch more starts.  But that does have to wait until next year.

9 of the blue lake beans have sprouted.  I know that's only enough for the growing season but it's enough to get me started.  I'm so looking forward to this growing season.

All of the fruit trees are showing green which is also great.

7 of the Costoluto Genovese tomatoes have sprouted and 10 of the blue lake beans.  Of course the peppers are going to take 30 days to sprout because I can't keep them in 80 degree temperatures.  I wish I could afford a warming tray but between the cost and the electricity it just isn't really within my budget.  I may resort to buying plants when it comes to peppers.

In my down time the last week I've started gooing through the new seed catalogs. There are so many things I want to try! I plan to sit down with graph paper and plan out the garden soon.

What will you be making room for this year?

I'm going to start the lettuce and radishes earlier this year.  Colby drew me up a garden plan the other day when he was with me.  I plant mostly the same things cuz that's all anyone will eat.

Aftr being so discouraged with deer, rabbits, voles, chipmunks, slugs, blight, way too much rain and cool last year I dont know what I'm planting. I was thinking of filling all the beds with corn. The potato garden is full of garlic sed. Hope at least that does well.

Right now I've gotten as far as green onion and radishes.  Anything else will depend on how the compost pile has done.

I was like Wrennie.  In fact I had said that I wasn't doing another garden just to let the deer take it, along with the weeds.  I have decided with the addition of the natural fertilizer that I will try it once again.

I'm also going to add a bottom plow to my tractor attachments so that I can move the garden around a bit easier.  That way I may even try to plant some crops just for the deer closer to the woods.  Right now with just a 5' tiller, it takes 3 days to get a spot ready and wears the tines out on the tiller.

We'll plant the usual tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, peas, peppers, okra (for Aunt Bonnie) and corn.  I'm going to start a bit earlier in 2010 though because just as soon as it is dry enough I will till the horse poo under.

Jim, I really think you or Dianna, or both of you, should read the book "Gaia's garden" By Toby Hemenway. In it he talks about which direction and how best to shape your gardens to catch the most sun, and he talks about planting to fool and to appease the deer.

I know there are certain plants that deer don't like.  Maybe if those are planted around the perimeter of the garden the deer will go away.

I do that around here a lot. Surround with garlic and onion. Those are good deterrents. I use a lot of tulbaghia (society garlic) around my ornamental plants. It helps. Especially with rodents. I only get enough deer to be welcome here. once or twice a year mostly. At least not as many since I got my dog.
