The birds no one wanted...
« on: Jan 15, 2009, 12:07:57 AM »
These birds were going to be "released" outdoors, where they would have died a miserable death, so I took them instead.

Meet booger and snot:

Meet brat and bob:

All four of them were going to be released, Sarah? That is sad. Some tropicals can live over here outside most years but not all.
Did you name them? Do they know their names?
Jonni had a 'keet named Drumstick. When she got tired of it we found a happier home for it. Someone also tried to give us a pair of lovebirds but we found a happy home  (same one) for them too.

Beautiful birds, Sarah, but their names don't quite suit them... :rofl1:

It is so sweet of you to add them to your menagerie...

Very pretty birds, Sarah! Glad you were there to rescue them! I love the names, but think they are all prettier than that! :giggle:

Beautiful birds.  How in the world can someone think to release tropical birds in our area especially when it is so darn cold!  If I were to get a SINGLE bird, are they fairly easy to care for?

I named them, and their names fit all too well, I'm afraid. :SlapSelf:

Booger screams. A lot. he has been getting better, but it's slow. He may yet earn himself another name. Snot is the same way. Of all the birds I have ever owned, something about these two's voice cuts straight through me.

Brat REALLY wants to be a good bird, but still has some trust issues to work through. He will ride around on my shoulder, but every now and then feels the need to lean in and softly nibble my ear...not a bite, but still...brat.

Bob lives with Brat. Bob has even worse trust issues, but sits around talking and bobbing his head.

All in all, I'm sure they will turn out to be great birds.

Triss, birds are not hard to keep at all...give them fresh water, a varied diet, and a clean home and they are happy. :grinnnn:

Sounds like their names fit after all.  :grinnnn:

I think I will hold off on birds, but it is nice to know that I could do it if the kids start begging for another pet.

Birds really are easy to care for for the most part, Triss. But you do need to vacuum a lot. They were just never my thing. i like snuggly pets best.

Us too but we cannot have cats... I just worry that Piper will non-stop bark at a bird.  It is not something I will be doing anytime soon.

Get a squirt gun or bottle. Piper barks, piper gets a shot. It worked for Butt. It will not work for a dog who likes it though. Now all I have to do is get out a water bottle and set it in sight (empty). Black Butt is a perfect gentleman.

Piper loves water, she would just bark at that as well.  But she is getting more and more out of eternal puppy stage so by the time I am ready for a bird, she might be settled enough to have one in the house.  I will have to get one that talks so I can teach it to tell Piper to stop barking. :grinnnn:

I'd have taken them in a heart beat.  I love birds and would like to get one but unless I can afford the vet I don't get the pet.  I'm also thinking about a beta fish.  That would cost me about 150 dollars for a good set up for them.  Then there is the need to keep frozen brine shrimp in the refrigerator for them ugh.  But they are pretty.  So I'm thinking about it.
