It really is/was an odd plant. I sure wish I could have gone back to look at it again later in the season.

What season was that? I was thinking it was recent. Season of bloom makes a big difference.

I like its other common names too. "Sugarstick, Sugar-stick, Candystriped allotropa and Barber's Pole"
