News - Flashchat - should we keep it?
« on: Feb 26, 2009, 09:14:33 AM »
In planning for the eventual move to the new SMF 2.0 I intend to trim some things that we aren't using much.  One of those appears to be the Flashchat addition.  All other modifications that we are using have already been updated or are in the process of being updated.

Here is your chance to help me decide about Flashchat.   Please vote in the poll.

I voted. I think scheduled chats would be fun, but if we need the space it can go.

It's not really that we need the space, it's more like under utilized.  Other than a couple of staff meetings, I think we have had one scheduled chat!

Any member that wants to organize a chat, feel free to do so.  It doesn't have to be organized or even suggested by a staff member.

Thanks for voting.  I hope we get more votes than a handful.

I think keeping it would be good and I like the idea of scheduling a chat. No one goes in if no one is in there.. lol. With the scheduled chats, we know there's be someone to chat with.

I voted. No one is there when I've looked in. We all lead such busy lives. I'm up and on later than most people and looking for someone to chat with sometimes.

I would use it also if we had scheduled chats.  It is harder for me to sit for any length of time chatting, I do not even hardly ever use the software I have specifically for chatting like that.  If we did not have chats, then it could stay or go and would not matter much to me either way.  I guess I could have chosen two of the poll choices but I chose the one to stay with scheduled chats.

We are all under the same stars, therefore we are never far apart.

I was thinking of maybe twice a month scheduling chats in the evening, one being a Ghost chat and the other being Gardening.  I do intend also on using it for Staff meetings from time to time as well, if we keep it.

Can you close it for staff stuff? I used to see you and your son's name in there and sometime Dianna. I never wanted to interrupt a family thing. I would worry that I might be stumbling into a staff thing too.

Tina, when the family is in there, you should just pop right on in. You are part of it! :grinnnn: The chat room is for all of our forum family...

As for the staff meetings, we have a private area for that and it is passworded. You couldn't accidentally stumble into that room...

The poll closed yesterday with 50 % voting to keep it.  I'll put it on the list for when we upgrade.  So far there isn't a mod for integrating it but I could probably wing it with the information that is available at SMF.

It seems the addition of the updated portal has broken FlashChat.  When I slow down a bit I will try to get it going again.

ETA:  Well it is fixed.  Couldn't find any files that had been changed.  It was a permissions thing.  It sure is fun working with a server.
