Is that a buttery yellow (not bright? can't really tell in that pic). I'm thinking using the yellow for the main color and working the other colors in, mybe in two row stripes? I dunno... what do you guys think?

I'd drop the yellow altogether. If it just a wall color, it could change in the future, then the blanket would look out of place. Mostly blue, brown accents so it stands out against the furniture.

Yes it was buttery yellow... dull so that it would not be so flamboyant against the blue and brown.  I like the color combination but not how i laid it out.

I tried just the blue and brown Sarah but did not care for the two alone together.  This blanket sure has me stumped.

I am working on a couple of layouts now....

That would work. What color did you choose as a base color. Triss. Did you purchase more of any single color? I kind of like what you have going for a regular afghan. I would use the brown sparingly for a baby unless I were tucking a teddy bear in the pattern or something.

I only have one skein of each... until I get the pattern set.  I found a pattern I think is good but I do want to flip it... and have it be blue, brown, blue, yellow, blue, brown blue with thicker blues on each side of the stripe set.

what about shells triss?  did you see the baby blanket i did in crimson colors?  it had a white base with the orange and purple for the accent.  i know it is on here and the pattern is super easy and works up fast.

I definitely want the ripples cuz the blanket I made for his sister Kate is ripples.  I kinda wanted them to match in that way at least.

This was the blanket I made for Kate.

that's pretty.  can you do this one the same, but use a single background and alternate the stripes the same way?

i do like the test set.  it is pretty. doesn't look bad together at all.

I could not remember what Kate's afghan looked like and went to grab the picture.  What I am thinking now is going to look somewhat like what is there only with thinner stripes and all solid colors.  Luke will also get a hat and an octopus.

Thanks Jenn...  I have 2 rows done... once the game starts, I should be able to sit down and get a big chunk of it going.

If babies today are still like my babies were that blankie will be everywhere except the room it's supposed to match.  So I say make it pretty and don't worry about an exact match.  Ginger, who is 30, still has her yellow blanket.  It sleeps with Ging and her husband every night.  No joke.  They will love it because you made it.

Thanks Sheri!  I think I have the pattern I want but have to make sure I am not going to add any orange into it before I go on.  Lori found some orange yarn she thinks might work and I am right at the point now that I would add it in or not.  I will be able to take pics at some point tonight.

OK a day late but I finally got enough done to get an idea of what it is going to look like.
What do you all think?

Thanks!  I was REALLY stuck on the brown being the main color until Sarah said use the blue as the main and then it all fell into place.  I like it.  The only problem now is that it is puffy from the change of stitches.  I think I can live with that cuz I really believe that once I wash and block it, it will lay flat... if not then Luke will get a wavy blanket.

wavy blankets are fine.  once he bunches it up a few times, it won't matter anyway.  it will be his cuddle up.

It's perfect! I tink in your first post the 'stripes' were too wide. Imlike the single rows for accent, and wide blues.

Well.... I had to tear it all out... When I actually LOOKED at the blanket as a whole, it kinda looked like a pyramid... the single stitch strips pulled in soooo bad.  There was no way it would even block right.  So out it all came down to that single brown strip and I am off again doing it all in the same stitch but with the same pattern.  I got back up to the first yellow last night.
