This plant is also at my FIL's.  I thought it may be some kind of jasmine?

I agree, it looks like a jasmine to me too. But there are dozens of forms. Is this a vining plant? And it is blooming white from pink buds? Does it have a fragrance?

It is a large bush and very sweet smelling but not the typical jasmine smell.

Then maybe look at nicotiana, Triss. And there are bush forms of jasmine as well with different odors. I just don't know.

it's hard for me to tell by that picture.  Does it look anything like honeysuckle?  If not, my vote is for jasmine.

Oh honeysuckle, now that could be a winner.  I have to go and taste one next time we are over.

Most jasmines are poisonous, Triss. Take care with the taste test.

Me either.  Well maybe not a taste test then.

can you tell from this picture of my honeysuckle if that's it?  This isn't that clear.  I can try and get a clearer on.

Nope Sheri, that does not match.  Mine has rounded leaves and 4 petaled flowers.

That one looks like it could be it Sarah.  I will let you know what Dad thinks and see if he can confirm it.

I know it is a while since this thread received a post, but as the question was not answered I thought I would.
Your mystery flower is almost certainly a evergreen shrub called "Daphne" and a variagated one at that if you can plant one of these near the house/back door you would get intoxicated by the beautiful perfume. particularly in the evening.

FIL thanks everyone for the ID.  And it is an absolutely beautiful smell to it.
