Peas in a Pot
« on: Sep 15, 2009, 03:12:39 PM »
Ooooh, I'm excited. My son in law and I built a raised garden this summer. Actually I built half of it and he finished it for my birthday. I am using it to grow in pots. I planted some late field peas just to see if I could get them to grow in pots and now I have peas. I planted about 7 plants. I might not get enough for a dinner. I don't know how many plants I need to have to get a mess of peas. I'm just excited that they are doing so well in the pots.

Congrats. You are going to be a regular farmer yet!
I don't do many edibles because the critters get them before I do. I do grow some with them in mind though.

That's great Bonnie!  I had about 15 3' "rows" of peas in a raised bed...and ended up eating peas for well over a month, plus froze enough for 10 dinners, just to give you an idea.

Bonnie, do you  mean you left your peas in the pots and planted the pots in the raised garden?

I'm going to try peas this year for the first time.

I  made a raised garden that just holds pots. Everything is planted in pots. Mostly for fun. The peas grew really well. I just didn't have enough of them planted.

I was looking in the Guernesy's catalog yesterday but didn't see any English pea seeds which I think is what Penny said she plants.  Will any pea do?

I would think that any pea would work, as long as you provide them with somthing to grow on.

I want to be able to eat them off the vine like you do.  Do you think any kind will be ok for fresh eating?

I think Aunt Bonnie planted field peas, Sheri...

Careful with the flowering sweet peas...they are different, and poisonous. Sheri, if you want to try peas I can send you some in your swap package.
