« on: Apr 27, 2007, 12:16:43 PM »
This plant is at Shoney's in Sumter SC. It blooms in March. Long dagger like, dark green leaves w/ bell like white flowers. Any experts who may reccognize this beast?

I blew up part of your pic to get a closer look ...you don't have a closer shot of the flowers that might be clearer then this, do you?

I was thinking maybe Lily Of The Valley, but I don't think the leaves are quite right.   I'm no expert, but maybe one will stop by & ID it!  They're sure pretty, & it's hard to get flowers to grow so close to trees!

Like Patty, I thought Lily of the Valley because of the flowers, but the leaves are different. The leaves look liriope, but I know it's not that.

Next time you go out to eat, a close-up would help... ;)

I was ALSO thinking Lily of the Valley - could there be another type of it, other than what we are all used to?

It's not Lily of the Valley because the growth pattern is different.  Actually, it appears to grow a lot like Liriope or Lilyturf, but they send up tall spikes of flowers much later in the year.  It may be some kind of ornamental turf grass, but I've never seen anything like that with the tiny white flowers growing among the leaves.

Do the blooms have a green spot on each of the tips? If so, it's a bulb known as snowdrops.

I think you got this one too.

That makes you 2:2.

Keep going and you will have all these mysteries solved.
