sloppy job on wallboard
« on: Oct 08, 2009, 11:39:47 AM »
The other day the wife turned the hot water knob off in my daughters bathroom and the knob broke off, so we put in a work order for the maintence man to come and fix the knob. He came yesterday cut a 3 foot by 2 foot hole in the wall to take out the old faucet and put in a new faucet. after tested the faucet and made sure it didnt leak, he gave me the work order to sign, as I did. we looked to see how all turned out and to our suprise we found that hole he covered up was not done right, all he did was take a piece of drywall put it over the hole and screwed it in the wall. Now my wall has a 3/4 inch eye sore and looks ghetto :Vent: So i guess I'm going to if I can find some type of access panel to cover the hole so that way it doesnt look like my 7 year old did the work. I will take a picture of it and post it here in a few. Any thoughts on what might make a eye sore better to look at and not soooooooooooo ghetto?

Is that in her room? Get a blackboard or a board and blackboard paint and cover the whole thing. Then let her do the decorating with chalk.

Normally there is already an access panel that is really nothing more than a plastic frame around a piece of dry wall.  Or like our shower where a large piece of dry wall has those strips on each side with some push buttons that hold it in place.  Wonder why he put it with the paper to the outside?  :ScratchHead:

I have no idea why he put the paper side out, but what I am going to do is get some thin white plastic plates and take down the sheet rock lump so it atleast looks presentable, soon as we sign the papers on the home and I get a job, I am going to paint her room Hanana Montana colors< the daughter picked out the colors  :Groaner:

Have you tried calling him back? Or putting in another work order?

I'm with Sheri.  I think I would call him back and ask him why he put the drywall on backwards.  He may have a good reason but I would want to hear it!  :tapfoot1:

I hope you didn't have to pay the person that did this work. It is unfortunate.  I would definitely call him back.

No, we didnt have to pay for anything. We are under a lease adendum until the title comes in and we sign the book of paperwork for the financing to buy it. I've tried convincing Jayrod to call the guy for him to fix it but he wants to redo it himself. Just my 2 cents worth.

Sometimes it is better just to do it yourself.  Johnny's that way too.

Just like the saying goes, " If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself"   I'll just duct tape it and paint it white, less than 10 bucks and its done. :yesssss:

take the piece off.  Behind it put in two stripes of wood and then nail the piece of drywall to the strips.  Then it's just puddy and paint and you'll never know it was there.

I found that asking the previous owner to do something to the trailer was a very bad idea.  The work was always substandard.  You might want to see if you can just take the cost of fixing it correctly from the contracted amount.  That would be nice and appropriate.

That's a great idea Tammy.  You may want to use a variation of that so you could access the plumbing there again if need be without having to cut a hole.

The previous owners are not fixing the stuff. The mobile home sits on land owned by ARC. Since we are not technically buying the mobile home yet, their maintenance guy comes out and fixes the stuff. He's the one that messed it up. Now, this morning, the carpet by where he replaced the faucet has gotten the carpet wet & I already called the office for the maintenance guy to come out.

well its been 4 days since the carpet guy came out and sucked up the water from the carpet and, the maintenence man ripped up 4 to 5 feet of padding. Sounds like we need to have a sit down with the park manager and start making demands. Its really getting on my nerves, we had the ac worked on, replaced both faucets to the washer outlets, had a faucet put in so we could water the yard, faucet in dauughters bathroom, and now carpet problems.... I am afraid to ask whats next.  its like  :beatdeadhorse:

I so know what you mean.  Sounds like you have the maintenance man for hell.  The church helped me when my well pump went out last month.  After they were all done with the work I was told that the check valve had damaged the pump so they replaced the check valve and then put the damaged pump back in the well.  I kind of felt like pulling my hair out.  Now I have a problem that's going to occur I just don't know when.  So I am with you all the way.  Keep calling until he does it write and not sign off on anything until you have checked it thoroughly.  Good Luck.

Oh by the way about the putty job he did on the two holes, that can be fixed.  Sand what is there down until you have it level with the wall or slightly lower.  Then get a really nappy roller and dilute some drywall mud until it will adhear to the roller.  Then apply a very thin coat.  Let it dry and it should match your surrounding wall pretty closely.  Then just paint it so that it blends in with the rest of the wall.
