News - A few cosmetic changes
« on: Oct 17, 2009, 01:42:24 PM »
Just wanted to post a quick note on a few changes that I did today.  Some of these are security related, others are adjustments that I had been planning for sometime.

1.  On the portal page, the Who's Online block is no longer viewable by guest.  Additionally, I added some custom code that was available from a member at SimplePortal that adds the users in chat to the portal Who's Online Block.  It also adds a statement to the fact that there are no users in chat if that is the case.  This new and improved portal bloce is only viewable by members.

2.  On the forum index page guest can now only see how many members, guest and spiders are online.  The names of the members that are online or have been online today are only viewable by members.

3.  The Arcade and Chat are only available to members as well, so those menu items do not even appear to guest now.

I was really surprised that this isn't a switch that the admin can use.  For the forum index, I actually had to add some code.  I'm thinking of packaging it and submitting as a mod to SMF.

Just our continuing effort to make/keep this a safe and stress free home for our members.

Well, once a few of you went in the Chat room tonight I saw that I needed to do something else with the Who's Online block.  The part that was supposed to display the members in chat just didn't work quite right.  In fact is showed sunsoaker inthere 3 times and she wasn't even in there once.

So I separated it again and now there is a Members In Chat block that carries the same permissions as the Who's Online block.  It's not quite so busy and I like it better anyway.  It also has a link to the chat room.

So now we are all decorated for Christmas.  We will stay this way till January and then go back to our normal colors.  The red is definitely bright!

Yes, I do too, for a month anyway.  I had to change Dianna back so it reset everyone momentarily.  Have fixed it now I think.  If you can't see the changes, you might want to clear your browser cache.
