Do you have a home generator?
« on: Dec 06, 2009, 03:27:46 PM »
We have a small gas generator that will run a few things when the power goes out but we want to get something that will run most of the house and come on automatically.  I've been looking online and there are a lot from which to choose.  Does anyone have experience with a specific type?

I do have two. A small gas one that will run a few things. And a huge gas one that will run my house and several others. I have to  fill and start either of them in order to run them. But my neighbor got a Generac Guardian that comes on automatically when the electricity goes off. I have wanted one of those ever since. I use propane here and it can be hooked up directly to my 250 gallon tank. We were looking into them before John died. We were really to the point of trying to figure out which size we needed from expert friends.
I know we pretty much decided on the Generac Guardian, though for brand. And Home Depot delivers that one for free. You would need to contract maybe to hook it up. Even for the one we have we needed help with the transfer switch (not and automatic one).

We have a generator too, we keep it at the shop, and bring it home if needed.

Not sure of the make, but i do know that it was bought through our welding supply dealer.

I hate being on a well and not having water if the power goes off.  We can stay warm and eat but I need water.  That's my main thing.
